Stopped here for late lunch after the place we originally stopped had only half a menu available (Boar's Head recall). What a lucky turn of events for us! What we originally thought was simply a fish market actually is nicely decorated market AND restaurant, with a pretty nice menu! Just ordered take out...and it was a super busy weekend (July 6). Food was excellent...and the service was fast. I had an Oyster Po Boy, and the amount of oysters was VERY generous. My wife had quesidilla with shrimp and crab and she loved it. The restaurant itself is set up nice and I am looking to having a sit down dinner there soon. Ordered takeout. Food was ready and waiting when I arrived. Order was correct. I was greeted with a smile. My mom got a bowl of the she crab soup, it was loaded with crab and she enjoyed it very much. I ordered the fried platter with a choice of crab cake, scallops, shrimp, coleslaw and waffle sweet potato fries. It also came with hush puppies. I visited the Seafood Shack this past Friday (6/24/22). Was able to sit outside on the deck with my dog Lady Sadie and enjoy a dozen steamed crabs that were pleasantly priced at $25. Service was fantastic and the attention detail was there. Being a home owner in Mathews County I welcome all food and drink restaurants to our county . The Seafood Shack is well funded seafood market with a bar and seating . Bravo ! read more

I decided to try this place on a trip from out of state. Went in prior to dinner to see the layout and ask about specials since this is a market and restaurant. Came back for an early dinner with high expectations. The atmosphere is great as a seafood restaurant should be. The menu is extensive and has enough for the whole family. Service was prompt and seemed to be smooth. Or so I thought. I was surprised that the appetizer was completely missed and not delivered. Worst then that one in our party their meal was wrong not just once but twice. To top it off for a restaurant to say fresh crab cakes that was laughable. Puck pressed, no lump meat, no old bay, mushy probably frozen is just not a thing. Too bad I thought this was going to be a great place. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

I'm giving 3 stars in hopes of things getting better. Temper your expectations while this business figures things out. Our server was a mature person but could not have has any restaurant experience as she came to the table three times and never delivered water or drinks. We were only informed of what was not available after placing the order, her taking the order, disappearing to the kitchen only to return and tell us they were out of whatever we ordered. She crab soup was tasty, but with a very thin base and served room temperature. I did send it back for a reheat. My friend both got soup that was not hot, one ate the soup, the other did not. Husband's dinners were served at least 10 minutes before ours. Dessert was served with their meals and before ours. Steamed shrimp were a great size but cooked without any seasoning at all - bland. My friend ordered a taco that was forgotten about completely - we reordered. Fried flounder sandwich was a long , thin fried filet on a sub roll with pre-seasoned fries. Crab cake basket was one cake, over cooked and super thin. We kept hoping things would improve but honestly they did not. A little bummed about being served styrofoam cups for our drinks since we live in a river town - I know that a picky one. We received lots of apologies and then two checks with several items deducted. This one should have been a write-off. We tipped the server well and wished them good luck. Feel bad writing bad news for this small business but I depend on Yelp to guide us. read more

We had dinner this weekend. Sat on the porch for a nice meal. Shrimp wonton appetizer was very tasty. Had the fish sandwich, husband had the fish basket. Fish wasn't overly breaded so it was very tasty. Both the fries and the hush puppies were good as well. Server was very attentive and pleasant. All in all a great meal. read more
