Prairie Summit Shop - Parkas & Puffy jackets from The North Face at the Prairie Summit Shop

To- 'The Prairie Summit Shop' of Winnipeg…read more I sit here this evening, feeling very frustrated at the customer service I received today. In an industry where the customer is always right, you failed me. For a company who "...is entrusted by the North Face to represent the North Face products in the best possible manner" you have failed yourself and the North Face company. While purchasing a North Face jacket for my daughter (three years in a row), I believed I was buying her "only the best technical product in the industry". I believed I was spending the extra money for a jacket which would serve her well and keep her warm on our cold, wintery days. Boy, was I wrong! While speaking to the store manager today, I was truly taken back by his unwillingness to please a loyal customer. For a situation which he could of easily dealt with himself, he chose to send me away and told me to call head office myself! He even provided me with the phone number! (Apparently too busy to handle the problem himself!) Here is the story. This past weekend my daughter wore her North Face winter jacket for the first time. She was so excited to finally be able to play outside after our first snowfall! A few hours later, when it was time to come in, she was complaining about her chin and how her chin was hurting. I got her to look up and on closer inspection I was horrified to see a bunch of scratches from something in the collar of the jacket. One of the scratches actually drew blood. This was no joking matter. I wasn't able to get ahold of 'The Prairie Summit Shop' until Tuesday morning when the store opened. I explained my case to the store manager, Shawn. I could already tell he was skeptical, however I took pictures of her chin to prove my point. Shawn informed me I would have to bring the jacket in to the store so he could "examine" it. The jacket was clearly defective, as no piece of clothing should hurt anyone let alone a four year old child! So off I went, to take the jacket in to be "examined". While at 'The Prairie Summit Shop' on Grant Avenue, Shawn was not able to find exactly which part of the jacket scratched my daughter's chin. He told me, in this case, I had to deal directly with North Face, blatantly telling me I was full of poo. Now I am really annoyed as my daughter has no winter jacket at all! Maybe I should call up Shawn and let him explain to my daughter why she can't go outside and play in the snow for another 7-10 days while her replacement jacket from The North Face head office is being mailed to her. Maybe then, Shawn would apologize for his laziness and unwillingness to deal with the issue at bay. Thanks Prairie Summit of Winnipeg for making the job of being a mom that much harder. For a company who "is entrusted by the North Face to represent the North Face products in the best possible manner" you should be ashamed of yourself! Frustrated loyal parent of two- Kelsey P.S. - Next time I am told to shop local, I am going to bring up this story and how my local shop screwed me over! I am then going to go on to explain how the online sector of the North Face company came through and stood behind their defective product. If I choose to buy a North Face product again it MOST CERTAINLY won't be from 'The Prairie Summit Shop.'

Staff here has always been nice and helpful even though it gets super busy on the weekends. Naturally, try to hit this place on the weekdays if you can. Okay, being the cheapo that I am, I usually only check out the sale items which are usually around 20-30% off regular price (I have never gotten anything here that wasn't on sale out of principle.). I've really gotten some great deals here including some cute terry shorts/skirts for $10 last year! It's my latest acquisition that makes me even more excited about this location. I purchased this amazing wrap sweater (Universal Wrap) made from a super soft blend of cashmere, rayon, and bamboo. You can wear it in at least 9 different ways (the sales lady showed me 6 but I figured out a few more ways myself through the internet). I love it because you can wear this around town or as a part of a business casual setting. When I was browsing the same rack, there was one that was mislabeled for a lower price point. When I pointed it out, the sales person gave the lower price! So, I walked out of the store with two wrap sweaters for $49 each instead of the original price of $118 (the supposed sale price was $69/each). That's ridiculous for a place like this!

The staff are great there especially the ones that are in charge of the changing room. They are very knowledgeable about the products and have a great attitude. There's a lot more sale section racks in this store but I can never find anything in a good color or style because smaller sizes (6 and under) run out faster or its just bad colors left. Like who wants to wear white lululemon yoga pants? They have great workout bras in a range of fun colors and I love all their tanks for the gym. Love the thick scuba hoodies that are great to wear when it gets chilly out. And of course the great reverse groove pants that hug in all the right places - great for the gym, lounging around or just running errands around town. Workout gear tends to be pricey because the fabric is geared towards wicking sweat away, stretch and all those things. But I justify my purchases because they're not only great for working out in but they translate well into casual street wear. Most long pants and hoodies will be about $98, crops run around $86. Tanks are about $39-$52. And of course all pant hemmings are free of charge. Oh and the men's section takes up maybe 25% of the store, or less. But they have great items like the hoodies and the long pants (of course it's looser fitting than the women's). What I don't get about this place is why there are so many 12 year old girls shopping there? I guess these kids have a lot more in allowance money than I ever did! LOL.

This store sits where the old Canad Inns Stadium (formerly Winnipeg Stadium) was. It's weird seeing this building and a huge P.F. Chang's nearby. This area is vast, and needs either more stores or housing, or both. My original intent was to find a washroom, hoping that any of these three stores had a washroom. I came close with Urban Behavior. There were washrooms in the back right of the store. However, if was blocked off with a sign that said that these washrooms were unavailable. I'm taking one star off for blocking off the washrooms. It seems ridiculous to search for a washroom elsewhere, especially when it's cold outside and you need to go. I briefly looked at the merchandise. I noticed that it had Forever 21 tops that were heavily reduced in price. It felt like an outlet, as prices were decent. There were Ugg knockoffs. Naturally, I didn't find any in my size because I have big feet for a woman. I liked the sweatpants and sweatshirts. They looked cozy and comfy. The accessories were practical and cute. I saw everything from toques to earmuffs. This store had a decent selection of graphic t-shirts for both men and women. I was impressed. I rarely go into an Urban Behavior store. It was nice to drop by this one to check out the discounts. Maybe someday, it'll open up the washrooms to the public. (493)
