It's a little sad, in the past I've left glowing reviews for the great pizza and ice cold beer. The only thing good are the bartenders. The pizza was at one time the best on the boardwalk (my opinion) I looked forward to coming here every year. Now, the pizza is nearly inedible. What happened? It almost can't be picked up, it's like eating a handful of wet dough. The staff is still amazing, but I can't see going back unless I see people saying it's good again. Big Pizza Slice The Sawmill has been an institution in Seaside Park for years. I've never had a piece of pizza as large as their extra large slice. The pizza hasn't changed much over the years, it's a typical Boardwalk large slice. They don't seem to use a very good cheese so it's not very stringy but the crust is flavorful and thin. Our bartender was very hospitable and the place has a good atmosphere. The only issue here is that after labor day it is dead season on the shore so this place like most others close early. The sandbar, coukd be great atmosphere close to funtown beach and SSP. Unfortunately it's probably the worst. Service sucks. We went there sat at 3:00. There were 6 of us. In front of the band area we're 2 tables empty of ppl but full of high noon cans, miller lite cans plastic cup and empty box. My wife went to tiki bar asked the bartender is the server or bus boy is gonna clear the table to which she said we don't have servers or busboys outside and walked away. We asked for manager 10 min later nothing. They weren't the only tables with trash on them. We left and went to Ocean View much cleaner and incredible view. The Sawmill is an institution. They have a bar and a family restaurant at the Seaside Park end of the Seaside Boardwalk. The pizza is enormous. We got a pie to go. It was a pretty dry crust.. The meal in the restaurant was ok. I had the eggplant caprese. It came on a roll. There was tomato and mozzarella and balsamic glaze with breaded eggplant. I did not really like it. It came with french fries that were nice and brown, like steak fries. They were good. The servers were nice. The restaurant is loud and busy. Great location. read more

Craving pizza, came here. The bar area was poppin. They have MASSIVE 27" pies!! I just wanted a slice of cheese to see if I even enjoy the pizza here. The Sawmill definitely caters to families visiting the beach, as demonstrated by the patient and friendly service. The food was fine, the menu consisting of the usual suspects. I was most interested in the thick, wavy fries. The fries were definitely the best thing I ate. My main course was fish tacos. While they're known for their gigantic pizza slices on the boardwalk, I decided to spend my Sunday afternoon awaiting a roast pig while watching football. For $10, this was such a great deal and I can't believe more people haven't posted about this more. Along with the roast pig your buffet line includes bread, coleslaw, eggplant parmesan, fish, sausage and peppers. So good, but it does run out quickly, so make sure you're in line right as they put the food out! Saw Mill is home of the larger than life pizza slice! Located right on the seaside boardwalk, this place is always super busy and doesn't take reservations. Food is typical american family-style, but there are definitely some favorites that i mention below! It's a family tradition to come here every Labor Day weekend. This time, we had a larger group than before (12 people), and were seated within 25 mins. The restaurant was uncomfortably hot this time, but it may have been the area where we were seated. Server easily managed our large party and all the requests thrown at her. Food: We always get the pizza. This time we ordered 2 pies: buffalo chicken/pepperoni and cheese/black olive. Pizza is gigantiiiic and pretty consistent in quality. It's not the best nj pizza but we moreso come out of tradition, not because of the food quality . However, for an appetizer I HIGHLY recommend the garlic clams. The sauce that they're served in is delicious! Make sure to get an extra garlic knot/bread to dip the sauce in. We also ordered multiple cheese balls, mozzarella sticks, and chicken fingers. The greek salad is very good, although I would ask for dressing on the side next time. Caesar with grilled chicken is also a great salad to share. Drinks: ORANGE CRUSH! Their orange crush is out of this world. You can really taste the fresh squeezed OJ and it's what makes it so refreshing. I haven't ordered a different drink here, and don't plan to either! read more

Delicious food, open late, with indoor and outdoor dining. My friends and I were looking for a place to eat on the seaside boardwalk around 8pm and this is what we found that was open and had seating. Everything else was just food stands. This place was absolutely delicious !!!!! My only complaint is that the food took a while to come out and there were really no customers inside. Otherwise, the food was amazing I loved the bacon cheeseburger and the fries were very unique. I also loved the appetizer nachos!!! Great eats at seaside!!! I've been here a few times before and I knew better than to expect great food. But today was unsaid even by that standard. We ordered Buffalo wings, French fries, and three slices of their Pizza. The wings were overcooked, and very dry. Barely any sauce on them at all. The ranch that they give you with it is watery and flavorless. I recommend doing pick up, not worth dining in. After being sat by a hostess, my boyfriend and I waited 15 minutes (not exaggerating, we timed until we were greeted by our server as A JOKE, at first anyways). By the 15 minute mark, we noticed servers pointing at us and huddled around talking. I felt like I was in highschool all over again. By 20 minutes, I flagged down a server and asked if we were to ever be greeted by a server. He said ," You weren't even sat here by a hostess, why would we serve you?". I was shocked by this response, as this was false and the attitude was uncalled for. Last night my hubby and I went up to the boardwalk looking for a bite to eat. It was later, about 8, and there were a lot of lines to go in restaurants. We decided to try the Sawmill and avoided their line by sitting at their bar. The place was very busy and lovely, which you expect down the shore on a Saturday night. The bartender was friendly and attentive. I decided the pork rabe sandwich on their menu sounded good. We got our beer and sandwiches quickly. It was hot & fresh and so yummy!! I loved the combo of the pork and broccoli rabe and provolone! The bread was crusty and crunchy! It was garlicky and cheesy! And the fries were hot and tasty too! We brought half of our meals home because the portions were generous! We were in and out within a half hour too! It was a good value for the price and we were pleased by the experience. I don't think it was outstanding but it's acceptable if your hungry and don't like the other options around you. For a pizza place located on the Boardwalk, I was pretty skeptical. My friends and I had just finished the Seaside Half Marathon and the race finished right by The Sawmill. Sat at an empty bar tonight waiting for service to find out the bar was closed by others waiting to be seated and there was a 35 minute wait. We waited over 10 minutes at the bar. The sawmill is a count of a popular place for the Jersey shore boardwalk. We had a really good time walking up and down the boardwalk we got really hungry and decided hey let's get some pizza. The slices of pizza were huge and very tasty we didn't get to finish all of them honestly so my kids of course not ever finish anything so are usually finish those for them but we couldn't even finish it my wife order to me slices so I had to give it to someone else that maybe he was in need of a slice of pizza so they were happy at least so that made us feel good. GARBAGE CHEESE on the pizza. I do like the location on the boardwalk and have been going here for a very long time. It's nice that they have the iconic Giant Slice, but it's definitely not a bargain and for (at least) the last couple of years they have been using the cheapest grade of cheese possible. Would not be surprised if the package in which it comes says "cheese food product" or worse. If you don't mind feeding your kids low grade food they'll probably never notice but if you know the difference you might wish you didn't order it. I want to be fair (but I love my pizza). Overall the food is a little bit above the average boardwalk quality, the selection is good and Seaside isn't ordinarily the first thing that comes to mind when you think "fine dining". The waiters and waitresses are usually very good and friendly. However, if you enter on the south side of the building (the bar side) you will die before someone greets or seats you if you want a table. read more

It is my absolute pleasure to come back and post an update about The Sawmill. Your trip to Seaside is not complete with at least grabbing a slice from this classic spot. It made it through a hurricane and a fire, and boy, am I grateful for that! I can't justify giving Sawmill five stars because, at the end of the day, it's a greasy eatery that sits on the boardwalk. There will always been drunk crowds, or the occasional indifferent waitress, or the mistake in the menu item. However, they have made some nice updates over the past few years that really elevated the place. For example, they have a nice outdoor seating area that puts you right 'in the action' on the Boardwalk, and they have added some really tasty and delicious items to their menu. In the summer, this place gets absolutely slammed. However, thanks to COVID, we have taken some weekend trips down the shore, and have been able to eat at the Sawmill with minimum wait times. The Sawmill is famous for their giant slice, so you have to get that at least once. The pizza is not as good as something you would get up north, but it's pretty good pizza for the beach. If you want something TASTIER, explore their menu. Any of their sandwiches are going to be a hit - my favorite is their cheesesteak wrap, but their pork and broccoli rabe sandwich is a close second. Even their salads are good, which is crazy to me. But the best part about The Sawmill is their fries - I have honestly never seen fries like these before. They're thick like steak fries, but corkscrewed like curly fries, and seasoned like waffle fries. They are absolutely delicious, so when you're at the Sawmill, DON'T get the side salad and instead opt for the fries! All in all, the Sawmill is here to stay. My darling girlfriend across the way, got the same order and did about the same amount of work to the plate as me. We ve been eating here 30 plus years. The Jumbo 27" Pizza has been our absolute favorite. However, on Wednesday, August 14, it was not.. pizza was burnt on one side. Hardly any cheese or sauce. Was way overcooked. Always on previous visits, the cheese would be so overabundant that we d have to wait until it cooled somewhat to dig in.
