I can't believe we didn't know about this lovely trail sooner! It is under construction, but that didn't stop us from enjoying the part we were able to explore. It was a good 2 mile walk with options to stop at a couple places to take in the view. It's dog friendly, horse friendly, peaceful and mostly clean. You will need to be cautious while walking due to horse droppings. But overall we enjoyed walking here and taking in the breathtaking front range views, and will be back to check out the rest of the trail.

You can either come for the day or plan a camping/boat trip here. If you plan on camping you really need to make reservations in advance. The spots fill up pretty fast. Lots of places to fish and you can even do paddle boarding, ride your bike, sun bathe, hike, whatever outdoorsy thing you like. This place is not too far from Denver and a gem. Mule deer are present in abundance. Be careful if you enter the park after dark. It's DARK!!Slow down and stay alert. The site we had was right by the shower/laundry facility in D area. We had a mule deer in the juniper in front of our site the night of our arrival. It was good but it did have daily traffic at the facility. Plus a common trail runs directly next. Convenient but not only to you. FHU sites worked as expected. Consistent power and good water pressure. Septic was threaded and sealed. Easy site entry/exit and setup. Laundry takes quarters. Machine to dispense said quarters is disabled due to theft. The office don't seem to have quarter rolls. Yeah, bring your own from in town. You need to reserve these early which makes it hard to stay at CO state parks, period. Also don't forget you need a SP annual pass or a per day admission fee. Do the math.

It always seems busy, not too crazy, but it's obvious this is a favorite park for lots of families and those that keep an active lifestyle! I got a chance to walk some of the trails, and although it could get pretty hot in the sun (depending on the time of year/day), the shade from the trees are well worth the walk. Lots of runners, walkers, cyclists, and although I didn't see any, there are equestrians too. Watch out for horse poop! :) For the most part everyone seems to follow good trail etiquette and will let you know if they are going to pass. The kids love the playground, and if you like to shoot some hoops or play tennis, this place has everything. Note: parents/guardians need to watch their kids AND make sure they practice good etiquette themselves. If your kid is doing wrong, please discipline accordingly. Just because you kid is on the playground and throwing stuff they aren't supposed to (and you obviously know this is happening), do something about it. This really is an awesome park! Families and Active Peeps, this is your place!!!!

Another issue that surprised me was that the ball field was not very well kept. Christine was very patient with all the questions from my 7 year old. We saw elk, moose, and several other animals, Christine was very knowledgeable. There were many stops in varying places. The bus was comfortable with large viewing windows, and Christine had a microphone connected to the bus audio system, so we could all hear. She was very good about repeating questions into the microphone, so we were all looped into the conversation. The only part of the tour that I thought was underwhelming was the stop at Estes Park. I know some people like to look at knick-knacks in tourist towns, but I would have been happy to skip it. It was only an hour.

There is a large and beautiful reservoir but it is surrounded by a large fence that goes all the way around. This park also has a medium sized playground and large grassy sports fields. A good destination to go when in the area.
