Shoutout to our waitress Darian -- she was sooo great! We were a large party and she kept everyone's orders straight, stayed on top of everything, and was friendly and attentive throughout. That kind of service for a group our size is not easy and she nailed it! Music was a bit too loud considering the place wasn't too busy, but nothing that ruined the experience. Food was on point! We had the Loaded Nachos and Bone-in Wings from the appetizer menu. They came out quick and so good! The sports bar atmosphere I'm sure is awesome during game days. No complaints and highly recommended! read more

The food was great and the drinks were good, but the payment system made the experience uncomfortable. It seems like everything is tied to a specific server, so if you move around the restaurant, go upstairs, play pickleball or volleyball, or sit in a different area, you have to keep track of who originally served you. That can be confusing for customers and seems stressful for staff too. I felt embarrassed when I went downstairs to pay for the beers we had before going upstairs, and the waitress came down worried as if we had walked out without paying. I was honestly just trying to do the right thing and close out our bill. Then the bartender/manager asked me if I could point out who the original waitress was, but I didn't see her on the floor. That made me feel like I was being treated as the problem, when I was simply trying to pay. Overall, the food, drinks, and atmosphere were enjoyable, but the payment process could be much smoother. A more flexible system would make it easier for guests to move around and enjoy the space without feeling awkward or accidentally causing confusion. read more

Have only been here for Sunday brunch, but it is great. This last time our food was terrific, plentiful and an excellent value. We had wonderful service from Kaylee, and with the beautiful weather and the open doors it was almost an al fresco experience. read more

This is a cool place! Came here for the Office trivia. I like that they had the scores on the tv! No one greeted us when we came in so I was a little confused. Guess it's seat yourself! The waitress told us they were running behind so I'm glad she let us know. Luckily we were going to be here for a while due to trivia but if we didn't have trivia I might've been annoyed at how long it took for the food to come out lol. The apps came out pretty fast! Mozzarella sticks were pretty good. They were stuffed pretty full and very fat haha! I got the buffalo chicken wrap and it was alright. The wrap itself seemed a little flabby? lol. Fries were great though! This is definitely like a casual bar vibe. They have sand volleyball and pickleball so that's cool. read more

I love coming to The Sandbox off Barry Road in Kansas City! Every time we go, it's such a fun vibe. The burger I ordered was SO good juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Definitely one of the best I've had in the area! The service is always great too. The staff is super friendly, attentive, and makes sure you have everything you need without feeling rushed. And playing volleyball there is honestly the best part. It's such a fun atmosphere whether you're competitive or just playing for fun. Great food, great service, and a fun place to hang out with friends -- 5 stars all the way! read more

Food: again, this is a Sportsbar. I dont expect the food to be topnotch. But I want the food to be decent. This place has good food. Go for the quesadillas or burguers. I love the environment. Unfortunately the owner is incredibly rude (Oscar). At almost 30 years old with a bridal shower the OWNER came to our table, was so incredibly disrespectful, and claimed that the whole bridal party was underage. We watched as he ridiculed our server and the bartender. I am concerned about the was that he is treating his staff and customers. read more

What a beautiful summer Sunday morning I have woken up to! And as I'm sitting around rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, I feel this rumbling, this shaking of the windows. rattling walls that were creaking loudly, and I'm thinking to myself "I'm in Kansas City we can have an earthquake." Then I realize it's my belly growling. So, I offered to give it its normal breakfast of a toasted English muffin with cheese and coffee and that was rejected outright. That means I have to leave my home and go out into the cold cruel world. So, I climb into the shower and put a spit shine on my behind! Getting dressed, I put on my best Sunday go to meeting cutoffs and a good clean t-shirt and head over to a box that is filled with sand. And as I arrive at my destination, I exit the car and walk up and open the door to The Sandbox! Strolling up to the bar I barely have my keister situated on a bar stool when the bar keep comes up and tells me "Welcome back hon, we've got some new items on our menu." Really! It appears as if they have added two burritos, some tacos and a pork chop for breakfast. I ended up going with the burrito, when I saw what it looked like. They had one of each of them out to look at for samples so you could see what you were getting. And I thought to myself I can polish that bad off, boy oh boy was I ever wrong! They take it tortilla wrapper, fill it with scrambled eggs, bell peppers, onion, ham, with some potatoes and then smothered in a sauce and serve it on a bed of breakfast potatoes. Don't even try to pick it up, don't even think about picking it up, this is a knife fork burrito only. And unfortunately, I could not polish it off the way I thought I could. Another case of my eyes being bigger than my belly. On this beautiful day they had both garage doors open and a gentle warm, comfortable breeze came through, making my breakfast even better. And just so you know the Irish coffee was delicious too. Well done The Sandbox! Well Done indeed! Stuffing my face on a sunny Sunday at The Sandbox! read more

My family was going to try this place tonight. We sat down at a table, yes they were busy. We waited only five minutes and the waitress told us that she would be right with us. A couple minutes went by and she came back with menus and told us that kitchen was busy. I could understand because they were busy in a Friday night. About a minute later she came back to the table to tell us "I'm not sure when the kitchen will open back up". Being that we oddly enough went to a restaurant because we were hungry, we left. First impression not good. May not get a second chance for this place. read more

I wish I had many good things to say but the only thing good is that our server Dom was awesome. The food was subpar either coming out cold or (in the fried pickles case) soggy. The mixed drinks were made with far too much alcohol. They had 1 server and 1 bartender for the entire top floor during their end of summer Luau so it was taking anywhere from 15-30 minutes to get a beer even. The DJ was good. Then we woke up the next morning to find that the Sandbox had double charged the payment cards for the majority of the people in our party. This is the second time we've had the double charging experience. Don't think we'll be returning at this rate. read more

We came in for NYE Brunch and Music Bingo. We sat back by the bar top at a high top table. Christy our server greeted us promptly and took our drink orders. She checked in on us frequently as we ladies were talking and Bingo had started. We finally decided on our brunch items. 2 of us got the Sandbox Chilaquiles(Chicken) it was cubed I think it would be better with shredded chicken but it was still good. Our eggs were a little over done but it was fine. My sister ordered the Breakfast Platter which was very filling. I had bloody Mary's which you could go garnish yourself at the Bloody Mary bar. They had mimosas, tipsy coffee and my friend ordered a pain killer. The atmosphere was fun it was a bit chilly inside so I ordered a reg coffee to warm up. We'll definitely be back up to try again and play music bingo. read more

owner was absolutely terrible to us. (oscar) he questioned all of our bridal party and was very rude about it

We arrived at 6:30 so we would have plenty of time to order food and eat before trivia. When we ordered our food we were told the kitchen was backed up and it would be 30 minutes...not a problem. 45 minutes later servers tried to deliver other tables orders to our table. The other tables that came in after us received their order before we did. Eventually the orders came to our table in 10 minute intervals. My order was the last to arrive. Tha Manager stopped by to apologize and gave a sob story about his kitchen staff. This was my second and last visit to the Sandbox for food. Definitely a place to hang out with friends and family to play games outside and order bar type food and drinks. Sandwich/burgers are the main items on the menu and full bar available. Outside games include pickle ball, sand volleyball and cornhole. We ordered two items for lunch and after 15 minutes the waitress came back to tell us most items were not available as they didn't have any. We could not get a Rueben sandwich, a Cuban sandwich, a French dip sandwich or salmon. So we settled for a burger and chicken strips. The burger was seasoned and cooked well. It was HUGE. The chicken strips were a bit over done and the house chips were over cooked. read more

First time coming here, and I would say this place is a really casual, relaxing place to dine in. Very spacious restaurant The food was pretty average. It's nothing surprising, but it's nice to see people play volleyball and pickleball from the rooftop while dining in. Our service was very good. Our server, Lea, is super nice and joyful. This restaurant is a nice place to go as a family. PS: If you're going to sit next to the fireplace, be careful not to let the food paper catch on fire. My table had a little accident. I have been here a couple times but haven't left a review. I came on a very rainy Saturday evening. With the rain, all of the fun outdoor activities were closed. The parking lot was pretty full to my surprise and when inside it's seat yourself which I found to be a little crazy. I was able to find a table to wait for my friend to join me. I was immediately greeted and asked for a water. After that my server changed and my new server Makenna was super awesome! She was very patient and kept checking in while I waited on my friend. After my friend arrived we asked for Makennas drink recommendations. I ended up getting a shot of casaamiagos and my friend got their signature tropical shot. I also had a couple of Palomas and modelos and my friend had 1 summer Mai Tai and 2 blue mfers and modelos. We shared the loaded nachos. The nachos were very, very mediocre at best. The chicken definitely came out of a can and the salsa they provide is tiny. We got an extra salsa which they charge 80 cents for. I give this place a4 because they played good music, drinks aren't terribly overpriced and Makenna gave grade A service. The nachos knock down a star. I'll come back but I would try something different to eat. read more

Yep, SANDBLASTING IS COOL. Don't park your car near this place; I did on a windy day, and with the way the place is built near the highway basically on a hill, the sand trap will decimate your face, you'll have sand in your toes, your hair, your eyes, your engine, your paint. I don't know who approved building this place atop a mountain, but they should be jailed. The inside feels like a bar on a lake somewhere. It's deep, you get lost, and when you make it outside their caged fire-hazard, single in and out point sand hole, you'll only find trash everywhere, and in my case a family of trapped Geese with no one concerned about it between delivering drinks and makin' them tips... I'll never go to this place again. Ever. read more

As a former General Manager in restaurants and bars, I've seen my fair share of difficult situations -- but what I witnessed at The Sandbox was downright embarrassing for the establishment. Manager Oscar was speaking to his employees in a loud, cutting, and condescending manner, right in front of paying guests. It wasn't a one-off slip or a moment of frustration; it was a deliberate display of disrespect and ego. In this industry, great managers build strong teams, set the tone for hospitality, and treat their staff with basic human decency. What I saw was the complete opposite: a toxic, demoralizing approach that not only crushes employee morale but also makes guests uncomfortable. If this is how Oscar behaves on the floor, in full view of customers, it's hard to imagine the culture behind the scenes. Leadership like this drives good employees away and drags down an entire business. The Sandbox should be ashamed to let someone like this represent them. also their kitchen needs work food that was ordered all at the same time came out at drastically different times read more

Came here in between soccer games. Good, kid friendly place. Was caught off guard by menu, only because it's brunch 11-1:00 (today is a Sunday). But it ended up being delicious! If you're anything other than Caucasian don't come here. The bartender with the purple Barney colored hair took forever to serve us. We were the only ones at the bar without drinks. We had never been here before and asked for a drink menu and she seemed annoyed. It took her 2 mins to give us one and then another 10-15 minutes for her to make it back to us to take our order. We tell her what we wanted and she responded with "hold on." Then she comes back 5 minutes later and takes our drink order again because she had not listened the first time. A fun place to meet up with friends or family to hang out, watch sports, have drinks, and play some volleyball. This is always a hit with our family and my kids friends. Food is okay. Service is good during lunch, but good luck getting a drink (or food) when they are busy. Also, hopefully they didn't run out of what you ordered. If so, they will bring everyone's food out then tell you they ran out of your item. The ambiance is what you would expect from a bar with sand volleyball courts. It's loud, overly loud, and it's crowded. Also, if you want to bring your children in for food that won't happen. They don't allow kids under 10. However, if you want to bring your teenager in for a night of underage drinking this would be the spot for it. There's plenty of other underage age drinkers there for your teenager to hang out with. It used to be a great place, but the general manager has been able to successfully "spike" it into the ground. read more

The service was prompt and friendly. Our server was able to tell us popular items as well as personal favorites. We ordered an appetizer which they mistakenly gave to someone else. When our server realized it, we already had our food. She apologized and it was taken off our bill. We were satisfied with that. However the manager came over before we paid and apologized again and comped us an entree. That was above and beyond! Our food, fish tacos and chicken sandwich, were excellent. The tacos were flavorful, and my husband's sandwich was huge. I had an adult cherry limeade that was delicious, and my husband had a beer or two. Based off my lowest rating I could give, here is my reasonings: 1. Service - Walked in with my girlfriend with a cold beer and appetizer on my mind. We sat ourselves on the nice balcony and after ordering a beer and water, we waited. And waited, until I was approached by a waitress, who was not holding a beer in her hands after waiting 20+ minutes. She apologized nicely which was nice. After she walked away I was approached with a beer that was not only flat, but warm. 2. Food - I have been waiting for 30 minutes and still haven't been asked if we are ready to order. It's a Saturday at 6:00 pm and only 6 people are on this. Disappointed. read more

We tried to go here a couple weeks ago for brunch. As we walked in, an employee was walking out to take a smoke break...didn't acknowledge us. When we got inside, there were only 4 or 5 other tables sat on the main floor and at least 2 (but I think 3) servers. We sat ourselves (which I think is typical here) and we sat...and sat...and sat. Not once we're we acknowledged by any of the employees. Not a hello, not an "I'll be right with you," no menus. Nothing. We got up and walked out, right past the guy on his smoke break, and still didn't hear a word from anyone. We'd been here once before a few years ago and things were fine, but after being blatantly ignored for a good 10 minutes, we won't be back. read more
