We read; The Sand Trap, and saw it's logo--the flagstick (golf hole pin), and immediately celebrated. "Yes! The last time we went to a clubhouse bar & grille the experience was fantastic." Then we did research--Oh boy lol, it's near a golf course at least, and it is a sports bar & grill, so off to Pokey we went. After a fun little stop for coffee in Blackfoot along the way, we headed off to West Chubbuck Rd. via 91 South. Off the hwy, and into town, anticipating arriving at the restaurant after every stretch of property that could have held a golf course--But no, I was jumping the gun. We kept traveling down the old road of evolving names, past all the commerce area, past the homes, and past the point of me feeling confident in my navigation app--started to think we were lost. Traveling down Old Bannock highway, until finally on Pocatello's south tip some roadside establishments appeared. With a big Budweiser truck along the shoulder, and that very welcome digital sound voice "You're destination is on the left" I scanned for the name and logo--Eureka! Nice large parking lot with wheelchair access, and a bike rack out front--a space for everyone. The inside environment is high-heritage, beer-centric sports tavern with an affluent local soul. It's a warmly lit sports lounge with a textured quartz stone trim (Tried a video of this for you). Along with dedicated photos of today's memories and past, there is an entertaining collage of abstract Ads, untypical beer mirrors, and signs that crowd the walls triumphantly displaying unique logos. There are two mountain bikes secured above the doorway--fitting of a true sports bar. The tables and booths are In close proximity to each other, but space enough to be private. Perfect for a gathering, or a scattering. Many of the patrons we saw, know the bartender/server (Who is a young man) by name, and are themselves a little elderly. This place is a real old-time buddies sports clubhouse, with a vibe that welcomes everyone. Good thing too; It would be a shame for anyone to miss out Isac's, (ēzak) friendly and superior skills. He's a great server, handled our orders like a pro. It's easy to see that he's been doing this for a while. He kept perfect pace with the customers needs (Even as the place started filling up a bit) and the kitchen putting out the food. Seven* for the solo, unshakable Bar-Server! The smell inside was crippling me! My stomach growling--it was trying to eat the delicious smell. That makes it really hard to concentrate, and find the perfect item/s, cuz you want it all lol. The menu has a something for every type of comfort hungry appeal. Finally! We decided on food. A 3 Piece Appetizer Combo, and Steak Fingers for us to share. A Crispy Chicken Salad for her, and I had the Roast Beef Sandwich. It comes with your choice of wheat or sourdough. Toasted sourdough for me--no contest. I really overdid it with a just thick enough to be a chore to get thru the straw, Strawberry Shake--SO GOOD. Ok I shoulda been done a long time ago, but they had Mac & Jacks African Amber! I mean, amber lovers know I got a mug But yeah, like always, we ordered too much food. The Steak Fingers are BOMB!, not your typical over breaded and burnt, pieces of drowned in oil nuggets. These were STEAK.....FINGERS. There is a difference. She loved her her Salad, and my Sandwich, man that was tasty. Thinly sliced roast, and from the smell inside freshly roasted, perfectly seasoned, well toasted yet juicy. Dang! My side was a fresh house-made Chicken Noodle & Vegetable Soup that I can't even describe. You'll have to see the photos--this masterpiece even has fresh cut potatoes. Those things were good and tasty to great. Butttt at some point, the appetizers all being deep fried started tasting the same. So maybe we over did it, or maybe my order wasn't a hole in one, but I'm confident you'll love it. So 5* overall, but even with some standout items 4* on the food. Thanks for reading. We've always had a good experience at the sand trap. The last meal we had we ordered out hamburgers. They were the absolute biggest thickest hamburgers we have ever eaten. It was amazingly delicious. We usually eat inside the restaurant. The food has always been good. The service is excellent and the ambience is great. Try it!! read more

My first experience, I ordered the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. Chicken was over cooked, I had declined the cheese. There was No mayonnaise or any condiment spread added to the bun, just the veggies that was served beside the sandwich. The Tater Tots were good. I will have to give them a fair shake and try again. Changing my review from the last time. Went in on 4/16/23. Hardly nobody there and I asked if one out of the three TV's could be changed to the NBA game on TNT. She stated give me a minute like they was busy then stated someone was watching golf that was on two of the 3 TV's at the bar. Then ignored me! This place was a good place to eat and then eight hours later I was up all night with the runs no I'm not sure if it was this place because I had a sirloin steak and some jalapeño poppers they were really good my body didn't agree with anything so I don't know if it was repaired wrong. I do know that when I ordered a Coors light and brought me the bottle and I said can I have a glass they gave me a chilled glass. I poured my Beer into the glass and my suds went away right away that means it was a oily or dirty glass not really happy for that fun fact I didn't drink the rest of my beer from there on. Gorgeous views are the only things going for this place. The drink selection was paltry, and was missing even basic selections. The chicken sandwich we got was two chicken strips (which appeared to be microwaved) with a slice of American cheese melted on them. Completely unappetizing. The soup made both of us gag. The onions on my burger were so thin they had the texture of paper strips. Everyone at the table agreed that the best thing for the whole meal was the tater tots. The only good thing in the entire meal was tater tots - and this wasn't a cheap meal! Four meals was nearly $90! The food has been on a steady decline for the last few years. Wilted lettuce in a salad, over cooked wings, salty burgers and tough steaks. The atmosphere and service are always awesome--I can't say enough about the space itself, I just haven't had a good meal there in a long time. The best sports bar in Pocatello by a country mile, the Sandtrap is clean, friendly and has decent food. Steaks, burgers, wings, fried appetizers, and pasta are on the menu, with nightly specials including middle eastern fare on Wednesdays. MLB and NFL packages are on the televisions, and the beer and mixed drinks are varied and fairly priced. While the bar is nice and full of football fans on Sundays, there is also a backroom suitable for families with small kids. Overall, it's a decent place that won't disappoint. read more

We've been driving from Utah for a few years to eat here, unfortunately it's been a HUGE decline in food/ service we ordered a burger that was salty, wilted lettuce, old onions and NO top bun. Also had a Malibu chicken that was so awful I gagged upon eating the RAW chicken breast ((shudder)) we also had chicken wings that were freezer burnt. $35 later after we complained about the food, she brough the bill with nothing taken off . On my first day back into Pocatello we stopped off at Sand Trap. I wasn't necessarily feeling like having a burger, so I had an appetizer tray that consisted of tater-tots, fried mushrooms, and jalapeño poppers. I washed it down with a couple of pints of their Outlaw IPA. Outlaw IPA is from Idaho and while I'm here I will support regional craft brews if I can. Our server hauled ass and took care of us as best she could. It got packed as the afternoon progressed, because it started to rain and hail a bit. This place is our go-to when we want great drinks and food for a reasonable price. We have been here several times and have no complaints! I usually go with the crab salad and my husband usually gets the cobb with buffalo chicken on top. So yummy!!! We also love the muscles as an appetizer. Poor beer selection. Out of everything on tap it seemed. Uinta on tap was 3.2 beer. Boo! Service was terrible, but they were woefully understaffed for the World Cup game, so I'll assume we were seeing them at their worst. Staff seems innexperienced. Kids menu had the basics, but was a little expensive at $5.25 for Kraft MnC. No sides even. Food was nothing special, although we only sampled appetizers. Stopped in on a Sunday evening for their burgers. The food was great--but sat in the kitchen overlong while our server visited with a friend out on the deck. I hate to leave a business without tipping 20%, but when I see my server out visiting with other patrons while I sit inside waiting for my check, the tip goes down. When I have to remind the server to bring the rest of the meal, the tip goes down. When the fries are cold because they've been hanging out in the kitchen while the server hangs out on the deck with her pals, the tip goes down. Came to Pocatello for a weekend mountain bike trip. A woman at the trailhead recommended the Sand Trap. Great lively, casual restaurant/bar atmosphere! We sat at the bar, both bartenders were extremely friendly. Food was reasonably priced and delicious. The chef/owner, Cory, came out to see how are meal was. He was friendly and welcoming! Wasn't a great experience this time. Bar was closed for a "private event" so we had to sit in the back which wasn't my favorite. Less TV choices on a college football day at a sports bar, half the reason we chose the spot. But my real gripe was the food. Everything was overcooked, like way overcooked. Burnt burgers, we should have sent those back, burnt appetizers even the fries were way overdone. Our waitress was nice but not very quick to refill our drinks or check with us. For a restaurant, you need 3 things: atmosphere, service, and quality of food. They hit 2 out of 3. They are lacking quality of food. I wouldn't steer to far off the menu from the hamburger (if a restaurant messes up a burger, their in trouble). The rest of the menu is disappointing, poor quality and usually not cooked to your specifications. Few items I have had in the past: Had the pulled pork sandwich, very cheap bun and little bit of pork. Prime rib special, not cooked to specifications and alot of fat. Deep fried mushrooms, seemed to be out of a can. Chicken wings are skinny, lacking meat. Drunken noodles are spaghetti noodles. read more

Great food however we showed up early with a group of 30 people and it literally took almost 2 hours for my kids to get macaroni and cheese/ and a cheese burger. We had People in or group that ordered 20 minutes after us that paid and left 30 minutes before us. The other thing that caught me by surprise was they had already put their gratitude on the check. Prices very reasonable and food reliable. Salads were generous portions. Wide variety of drinks. I would classify it more of airy pub than a restaurant. Staff was friendly. Seemed to be the place to go for locals of all ages. Food was standard, so don't expect a razzed dazzle meal, but it was good. I was told the burgers were good but our table mostly got the speciality salads. I got the Fried shrimp which was the small cocktail shrimp ( large handful) more of a popper with cornmeal breading than the usual larger shrImp. Sand trap is an appropriate name because this is definitely the place to go after a round of golf, but not my choice for a night out dinner. read more
