The Has Bin - October splendor off the back porch swing

The Has Bin = The sweetest little spot in the middle of nowhere (and I can say that because I'm…read morefrom a patch of nowhere, myself) with an uninterrupted view of both the sunset and the sunrise. The accommodation (a quaintly-decorated, two-story converted grain bin with queen bed loft, sitting room, stocked kitchenette, double-wide hammock, multiple porches, and fire pit) is especially perfect for a honeymoon, anniversary... or romantic getaway. The hostess, Mary Kay, cooks love right into her food -- from the welcome snack to the morning spread -- it's all freshness, thoughtfulness, and deliciousness. We arrived to a cute little sign on the antique oven wishing us a happy anniversary and two ample slices of freshly-baked pumpkin spice cake. Coffee, tea, milk, juice and bottled water were available in the fridge upon arrival. We chose to drive into Danville, IL (about 15 minutes away) for groceries and then cooked steaks (and s'mores!) on the grill at sunset. Everything we needed -- from charcoal to tongs -- was waiting for us. A freshly-baked frittata breakfast was served on our schedule. It was accompanied by cinnamony baked apples and warm banana bread. (Mmm... still dreaming about those apples!) Sure, there are rules: No pets. No kids under 12. Check-in at 3:00 p.m. Check-out at 11:00 a.m. And, you need to understand that you're in the country... on a working farm. You'll hear critters and crickets and the occasional passing train (they stock earplugs in the nightstand in case you're a city slicker). But the value for the price (especially since you're also getting 2 breakfasts, 2 snacks, all the beverages you'll need, campfire kit, and fairly free-range access to the property) is unsurpassed. If you're looking for a place with lightning-speed wifi, or state-of-the-art gyms, or even barely adequate cell service: you're plain outa luck. But if you're searching for a serene little spot to unjangle those nerves, and finish sentences, and breath a little slower... THIS is where they hide that magic!

From the owner: The Has Bin is Vermilion County's only converted grain bin. Come stay in the country!read more

Concrete blocks with names written in marker and smells of a musty basement, but the wine flows and the entertainment is like no other. The wine likely is whatever is on sale at Walmart, but I promise it doesn't matter. The bartender, Trina, will make sure you have one hell of a time. She may sit at the piano and play a little song, tell some jokes, or pose you for photo shoots. I've been a couple times now and it's always a great time! If you're in the area, it's a must stop at place!

I don't even know if we got her real name. You get a wine glass and 5 tastes for $12. I think I ended up trying 7 because there were I few I didn't like so she switched them out which was really nice. They do not make any wines themselves. You are just trying various wines which at first was a bummer but it was nice to try some new ones I hadn't had before. We had 2 dry wine people and 2 sweet wine people and they had a lot for us to try. This place is downstairs from an Inn. It's a little dark as it's the basement but once you get used to it it's not bad. You feel like you are in a wine cellar. The only bad thing is there's no restroom. I don't know how or why but there really isn't one you can use. Not fun when you are drinking but luckily the courthouse had theirs open.

We turned on the jets and there was a brown film on the water and tub. We called and they came the next day and said that they fixed it. We ran the water it started out okay but then turned brown again and when we turned the jets on it turned brown again. We left a day early. They showed up while we were packing and we let them know we were leaving a day early. They simply said they were sorry and would give us a 20% discount and that was it. We were very disappointed that we didn't even get an email from any of the owners talking about our experience. Very disappointed and won't be going back

This is a 'mom and pop' business, only two cabins on the property, so you know you are getting good quality. Communication from the start is seamless. There were no hidden fees. We got a full list of EVERYTHING in the cabin, which honestly, we didn't need to bring more than a new pack of clothes and a toothbrush! The cabin was immaculate. The owners apologized for not having as much decorations up during the pandemic to keep it safe, which is cute, but I thought it looked great regardless. We opted in to have a steak dinner for two for $25. It came with two bacon wrapped steaks for us to cook ourselves, corn, potatoes, rolls, fruit, cheesecake & drinks. What a steal!!! The cabins are not super close together so privacy is good. There are some hiking trails nearby. The owners are really intentional with bringing nature to you - they have a salt lick for deer & a bird feeder. Everything is very well-thought out!
