I am a guy with long hair. I have been coming here for neck trims for about a year. It's always been ok service, but since there's not much to do, it's a convenient location, and they don't charge me for a full hair cut, I kept coming back. Today, the lady started my neck trim by completely shaving off side burn. When I complained, she "evened it out" by cutting off the other. And she took an inch off above my ear. When I got home, my wife said the back of my neck has no shape and isn't even. Final straw, I'm not going back and will not take my family there again. Made a last minute appointment with a new stylist. Went in for a color. Brought my own as I have may other times and places. Things got difficult quickly as the communication between us was barely understandable. She ended up not understanding what I was saying about to color- she didn't know how to properly mix it. After twenty minutes of TRYING to communicate I decided to just move on and use a color from the book she kept pushing on me. I didn't mind as I'm pretty confident in RUSK hair color- well-- it didn't go as well as I had hoped. Communication being the biggest issue. Not just dialect but she didn' listen to me well either. She was very rough and too fast when she applied the color, wasn't very thorough and definitely put far too much developer in her mix. Made my head a tangled mess the way she rubbed it in with her hands and overall felt like I was in a newbies chair. Too my shock she said she's been doing hair for ten years. To be honest- I won't be going back. She wasn't unpleasant- just really not a great experience. I had more knowledge and experience doing my own for 30 years then she seemed to have. And she had a terrible chair-side manner. After all of that- she twice asked to stop drying my hair. I insisted she finish but could tell she was very frustrated with the ask & was not being gentle in the slightest. Super long nails kept cutting me. Didn't move the dryer around or use a brush to distribute heat etc. I can't believe I still left with a very damp head (medium length thick hair) and it cost me 95 bucks. Definitely not worth the price for me. Positives- clean salon. Not unfriendly. read more

My family's new place for haircuts! Our previous lady had a stroke and is no longer working so we were looking for a new place. This place was recommended by my mom and I'm glad we found them! My 9 year old son is very picky but really liked how the lady cut his hair. She listened to his preferences (no bowl cut, not too short of a length, ect.) and did very good job. NAIL REVIEW: Do NOT come for nail services. I can't speak for the hair salon part, I'm sure the services for that is better since that's their main service. First off, they only had 1 person working nails when we went so it took a while to get both of us. Second off, they have the worst selection of gel colors I've ever seen of any nail salon in my entire life. I always get gel but the selection was so bad I opted for regular polish. I was also surprised to see that the pedicure moisturizer was just a bottle of Vaseline lotion you'd find at a drugstore. The cutting and cuticle care for the mani and pedi was not great. Excellent reservation system for a quick and simple mani-pedi. I requested an appointment on their website and received a text confirmation for the request right away. The actual appointment was accepted and confirmed via text within the hour. I arrived early for my appointment and the salon didn't have any customers at the time. Despite making the appointment, it was a little strange that they still asked me numerous time if I wanted both a manicure and a pedicure. I've had better services where the nail technician would spend more time on trimming cuticles, making sure the polish has full coverage, or just filing the entire edge of every nail. However, as the tech said when I asked for my nails to be buffed in place of polish, this was not a real nail salon so they wouldn't have/do everything. While this was cheap, somehow I didn't feel like I got what I paid for. read more

I did go somewhere else in Renton, for a cut last summer and it was such a bad experience. So my search continued. I didn't want to drive to Bellevue, just to get a trim. I have read many reviews and decided to try this place. I did a walk-in to check availability, Lina went ahead and took me in. I had a trim done with light layers. She did a great job. Our experience at The Salon in Renton was not good. As we walked, a woman who was a lead or owner was very stand-offish towards me. I was surprised how littered the floor was with hair considering we're the first customers of the day, and I lady doing my wife's makeup spilled liquid foundation on her white dress. And my wife wasn't very happy with her makeup but the woman who did it said it looked good to her. Needless to say we won't be returning anytime in the foreseeable future. BTW the curls they put in my wife's hair started to fallout and flatten in less than 2 hours. read more

This appointment was for my 92 year old mother. She hadn't been to a salon for awhile. She wanted a perm and hair trim. She was immediately taken to a chair when we arrived. We went over exactly what she wanted. She is very hard of hearing, and I explained that to them. They washed her hair first , then gave her a little trim. She sometimes needs a little assist with walking, so I stayed until she got back into her chair. I was able to leave for about 45 minutes, then returned just before she had to walk back to the wash sink. They did the finishing "treatments", then went under the dryer. She didn't want any styling done, just to be dried. She was very happy with the service. She said "all of those girls were so nice and caring to me!" There were 3 of them working and they all did parts of her care. She had a little trouble understanding them at times, but it was no problem. Her hair looks beautiful and we are so happy with it! This used to be a good place to go to get a haircut and color. Prices keep going up, Kelly is now charging $1.50 just to use credit card for transaction. She appears to be somewhat bipolar regarding customer service. I never know if she is going to be in a good mood when I come in. This is what happens when you try a new spot and your normal hair lady is on vacation!!! Not sure why they couldn't blend correctly and go up so high where my hair is flipped over funny. Enough said, just look at the picture. The reason the high rating was because of Nancy, she knew my hair and always cut it perfect in about 15 to 20 min. I had 2 ladies work on my hair and still it turned out bad. I will have to wear a hat, unfortunately I will be in Vegas with a bad haircut all weekend. I hate giving a bad review, but the haircut as you can see from the picture and the back isn't much better. I even had pictures to show them how to cut it. Perfection. I've stopped going to high end salons. I've started going to local smaller salons in Seattle/Renton. I decided to go to this salon after doing my yelp research. I walked in without an appointment and met Tracy. I actually just came in for a hair cut.... A trim... Lo and behold 1.5 hours later I was leaving with beautiful highlights and my hair 4 inches shorter. Tracy is super sweet and talented. I usually don't let anyone do anything drastic but I trusted her. I almost fell asleep when she was washing my hair. It was that good. To all my Asian peeps out there! As of today, I see that many do walk-ins which may result in a bit of waiting. The building has very few parking lots in front of the building, as it is just behind a Gas station. First off the reason I have come back and given The Salon one star is because NANCY SOLD THE PLACE! I had my second app. yesterday and found out Nancy sold The Salon and is gone...forever. I went ahead and let the new owner do my hair. I went in for highlights and a trim. The color came back perfect, but the way she handled my hair terrified me. First of all, right after she rinsed my hair she combed through it without any kind of detangler or or oil. YOU DON'T EVER DO THAT WITH FRESHLEY HIGHLIGHTED HAIR. She broke off so much of my already fine hair. Then she proceeded to dry my hair with NO heat protectant, and half way through, she started straightening my half wet hair! I asked her not to do that, but she couldn't understand me so she kept going. It was a nightmare. My hair is wavy/ curly and fine, and I cannot go back and have someone damage it like that. I want my hair to remain healthy and grow out. Save your hair and do not go here if you want to keep your hair healthy. I feel awful giving such a bad review, but I would feel worse if another girl went in and experienced what I experienced. I MISS NANCY, and the old staff:( read more

Definitely not coming back. I went to this place hoping I would finally find a good place to get my nails done regularly. I sit down and they tell me 15 minutes. I wait over 30 minutes and I'm finally at a nail station and I told her as I came in and once I sat down that I wanted a full set of acrylic nails. She told me to pick a color...I told her once again what I wanted and she got the white nail polish and asked me how I wanted my French manicure...I told her AGAIN I wanted a full set of acrylic nails, and she finally understood and told me I'd have to wait EVEN LONGER, because only the other girl knows how to do them. At this point I had enough. I tried to be patient. I waited over 30 minutes, explained several times what I wanted and was just too frustrated to wait any longer. They were also understaffed and seemed to be rushing with the other clients which is not what I'm looking for in a salon I plan on spending decent money on. read more
