I never really took an interest in getting my hair done and for the past three years. Therefore, I can't pretend to be an expert. However, my friend Cherry who is WAY more of an expert and had been getting regular haircuts from Maria for the last ten months. Overall, this was a fairly successful experience. My hair looks WAY better than it did before and I learned some valuable information about haircare---all for a very low cost! I would definitely recommend Maria.

The owner was very sweet and made me feel at home on my first visit. He was great at listening to what I wanted and understanding when I couldn't quite explain it. Started off with a shampoo and an AMAZING scalp massage - haven't had that in a very long time! He cut my hair with care and asked questions along the way to make sure I was happy. As I have shorter, curly, non-fussy hair, my cut and shampoo was an incredible deal of £24!! I will definitely be coming back before leaving town.

Avenue manages to be both a neighbourhood salon where little old ladies pop in to have their curls set and chat a while, and also produce some lovely contemporary cuts and styles. I usually try to schedule my appointment at least a week in advance, but if I mess up, they're lovely about trying to schedule a last-minute appointment whenever possible. Fu is particularly good with short hair-- I've had problems getting a good pixie cut at some very expensive salons due to my fine hair, but he consistently does an excellent job. And as others have mentioned, the head massage during the shampoo is amazing! This really is a hidden gem-- a reasonably priced, incredibly friendly salon where everyone is welcome, I can't recommend it enough!

The hairdresser was very friendly and listened to what I wanted done to my hair and actually followed what I wanted instead of doing what she thought best. There was lots of hair magazines for me to look through to see if I wanted a style change. The hair wash was extremely thorough and I received a few minute head massage after which was very nice. There was a selection of products on sale which were at very reasonable prices. I would return to this hairdressers.

At Studio Stage Door all stylists are Japanese and a big chunk of their clientele is Japanese as well. I like this very much, as I kind of feel transported into another world when I come here to get my hair cut. I especially enjoy the lively chatter in a tongue that seems so familiar yet is still so different from either of the languages that I speak. It is at moments like this, when I'm absolutely thrilled to live in a cosmopolitain city! Originally, I heard about this place through my partner who is Asian and who treasures the special skills of the stylists here: they know how to handle the straight & often tricky hair so typical for the Asian people. But also, they also still master the art of a full-fledged scissors hair-cut...no razors allowed! Last but not least, everybody here is just super-friendly and always welcomes you with a bright smile.

When I entered the place they all just looked at me expectantly and wasn't very welcoming. My stylist started cutting my hair and they were all just stood there watching. I really did feel uncomfortable. I mean, they could've attempted to look busy. The cut was ok. But for reasons mentioned above I won't be going back there.
