Sadly my experience of Blue Tit Peckham didn't match many of my expectations... my first time visiting a new salon in about 10 years (my other well trusted place is in a different city so I thought it was about time for a change!) On the positive side I thought the staff were lovely... I got a coffee straight away, a fantastic shampoo with bonus head massage, it all seemed good until the haircut itself. I'm trying to grow my hair so explained, showing the guy plenty of pictures of what I wanted to achieve and how I thought I might get there. I felt like he understood, and I also explained that my fringe was too long and it definitely needed to be shorter. So, he spent a long time getting the back right, which looks really good, but the rest is a mess. He barely cut my fringe, opting to style it to the side because it 'suited [my] face better', then I was coated in half a can of shine spray and only given a 5 second blow dry. My hair was half dry and greasy when he announced it was finished. I looked nothing like any of the pictures I had shown him, more like I'd been dragged through the late 90s backwards. A few glittery hair clips and I would have resembled Claire from Steps. The chair conversation was also pretty worrying, all talk of how Peckham was a dump when they first arrived and the gentrification thing is making them loads of money. I've lived in Peckham for years, and didn't want an argument so I tried to change the subject, even though it made me really angry. Now being British I obviously said nothing, paid and left. Yep, I paid £55 and smiled on the way out. £55 for half a cut and no blow dry is way too much, and I'm probably going to have to trim my fringe myself out of sheer embarrassment at the idea of going back. read more
