I'm in London for grad school and have been looking for a place to color my roots and a trim to hold me over before I go back to the US to see my usual stylist. Danny did the color and Emiko did the cut and blow dry. The color is a near perfect match, I have blonde hair. I was most worried about this but very happy with the results. The cut is exactly what I asked for. Half an inch off and she really listened. Nice bangs too. The blow dry left me with soft bouncy hair. The wash was really amazing. The helper washed then, to my surprise, gave me a proper head massage. I don't even get it that good at my usual salon in D.C. The service was really great. Friendly and warm. Got me tea twice. It was a bit expensive but for the quality definitely worth it, plus they scheduled me in same day within an hour of calling. £90 color £48 cut...will definitely come back between my trips to the US read more

She was completely underwhelmed with the end result and left with a dull colour rather than the brighter one that she was expecting, had become accustomed to at other salons (before they closed or moved on) and had requested with the stylist beforehand. I got in touch with Danny to share photos and feedback. While he was courteous with his time, he offered absolutely nothing by way of a treatment/redo, etc to improve the situation and instead just offered a bunch of reasons and justifications defending the work. This is a poor reflection not only on his commitment to customer satisfaction, but also the ability to set and meet customer expectations as this should have all been set out in the prior consultation, after which my mum could have made an informed decision whether to go ahead with the treatment or not, especially as she had emphasised how bright she wanted it. There should be a much clearer explanation of what customers are going to get for their money in situations like this. UPDATE: Upon publishing this review, my mum received a series of abrupt and confrontational messages from Danny, accusing me of writing a personal and exaggerated review and "bad energy". He also had the audacity to claim that she was booked in for "a roots highlight touch up" which is completely untrue and a poor attempt at trying to account for poor workmanship. She was clearly booked in for a "full head highlights with wash, blow dry and straightners" (fortunately I have emails that back this up) which is the service listed on their web page and as detailed above, none of this was explained to her when she sat in the chair. After a whole year of trial and error (with more error...), I've finally found my trusted, go-to salon in London! Conveniently located in Camden Passage, a short walk from Angel station, this is a small, laid back salon that is perfectly on point. They use and sell bumble and bumble and Moroccanoil products, both of which I love and use myself. They also offer water, teas and coffee during your visit. My regular stylist is Emiko, who is probably one of the few people in the world who is capable of giving my super straight Asian hair beautiful Victorias Secret curls and volume to last a night out. She is currently on maternity leave so I have since had my hair cut and styled by owner Danny Oh, who is lovely and takes the time to listen and understand what you want and need. The salon seems to have a pretty even balance of male and female clients. I always feel looked after here and prices are well reasonable. Highly recommended. read more

A great small salon in the heart of Islington---just at the start of Camden Passage off Upper Street. Look for the giant plastic orange and green cartoon dogs out-front! The salon is tiny but oh so very trendy...just 3 stations on the main floor and 2 washing sinks downstairs. Inside you will see a selection of miniature toys and a hip and funky atmosphere. I agree with the other reviewers that they manage to be both high-end and unpretentious. Danny and his team are remarkably friendly and professional. Upon entering you will be asked if you want a beverage...nothing like a nice cold beer to get you in the mood for a haircut. The men's cut is a bit pricey (circa 40 quid), but they do a great job and certainly seem like experts in what they are doing. I've been twice and both times have been happy with my haircut. They also have a great selection of gentlemen's magazines including Monocle---my favorite. The beer and Monocle are worth 4 stars on their own! read more

Just came from my first appointment for a cut and finish with Miu at Danny Oh. A lovely experience from start to finish. The salon is fairly small and cozy, an upstairs with 3 styling stations and downstairs is the washing area and one more styling station. It was peaceful when I arrived for my afternoon appointment, 2 other stylists were working and there was a regular influx of clients, but no one was racing around and there wasn't a sense of noise or chaos like I've experienced in other salons. The space is very clean with modern and simple, funky decor. It felt high-end, but absolutely unpretentious, as everyone was quite friendly. I came in for a cut, not knowing exactly what I wanted - I needed a professional's help. I have been growing out a graduated bob for the past 6 months which has left my hair in a disastrous, blah state. I thought I wanted long hair again, but given how horrible it looks during the growing-out process, i was now reconsidering this and thinking about going back to the shorter 'do. Miu gave me a thorough consult and even though there was some language issues (I am American and Miu moved here from Japan 6 months ago) she made an effort to put me at ease and I felt very confident that she understood the look I was going for. Danny, the owner, also stepped in and offered some hair magazines to look through to ensure that Miu and I were having the same vision. I loved that Danny, was present in the shop - seeing his own clients and getting coffee and tea for customers. The whole process went very smoothly. Shampoo was great, Mui was completely attentive. As far as the cut, one thing I can say about this gal - she is seriously meticulous! Mui made sure my cut was perfect, literally down to every single strand of hair. After drying, she went back and reshaped and perfected every section of the style. I gave her feedback about areas I was concerned about, and she altered them to my liking with skill and precision. She spent a great deal of time and gave thorough attention to the cut. One thing to consider, the space is pretty small, so don't expect to have a private conversation with your stylist. I didn't mind it - the open atmosphere felt friendly and welcoming to me, but others who prefer to share intimate information with their stylist may not appreciate the ease of eavesdropping. Cost was 45 GBP for the cut. This may be a little high, but pretty average among high-end salons. Very professional service, friendly atmosphere and a highly skilled stylist. read more

This is a gem, the salon is perfectly located, the team is very friendly and very fashionable and very up to date with what's going on in London, always happy to help, oh and give very good haircuts! Fantastic! I've got curly hair which I've left it long for so long because it's proved challenging to cut and style. Out of around a dozen places I visited around London, none have managed to sort out the nest-like mess on the top of my head (until now!) I came in with a rough idea of what I wanted and Aki gave me suggestions of how to tailor it specifically to my type of hair and - you know what? - he was completely right! Busy little salon in angel. Friendly staff. I went in for a trim for my coloured hair. I felt that they were far too rough with my hair, I didn't like the products they used and expected a richer shampoo and conditioner. My hair was so knotted after the wash and stylist pulling at it. Was not a nice experience at all. I never have this problem at home with my products. The blow dry used so much heat I felt was unnecessary as I'm so gentle with it at home! The stylist wet cut my hair quickly and said they would check the cut again after the blow dry which never happened and was more interested in another ladies cut which was happening behind me. I left with dry frazzled hair and as soon as I got home had a bath and put a deep conditioner on it. Really not worth the money I paid for. read more

Woohoo! Finally a Hair Salon that has quality service, indepth consultation, expert cutting and styling all under one roof. The ethos of Danny Oh is to combine the founders expertise in editorial photo shoots, and catwalk to an atmosphere that definitely feels more relaxed. It is not a massive hair salon so it feels very welcoming and will give you a smile as soon as you see the plastic dog figures attached to the front gate. (Chained. As they might get stolen or is it a simple pun?) All of their colouring is done with organic products and absolutely try the Bumble and Bumple deep treatment, it will leave your hair feeing soft and shiny. If you want the a senior stylist be prepared to pay around £45, it is from £48 for the director. I won't come here all the time, because of the finances but will do it when it is really the time for a change, and a change that needs to be done to perfection. read more

I'm in London for a few weeks and found myself badly needing a trim. I've been going to the same hairstylist in LA for ages and she's knows my hair like the back of her hand. Over the years, anytime I've had to settle for someone else to cut my hair -- I was disappointed. After doing some research, I decided to go with Danny's salon even though it's around 40% more than I pay back home as I didn't want an awkward haircut to ruin my stay here. The salon is located in a pretty trendy area with lots of cafe's / outdoor market / etc and attracts young urban professionals. It's well styled and quite small which gives it a very personal feel. I was received by the team with a friendly attitude who offered me a complimentary drink and attended to me in a very timely manner. Danny himself is a cool and down to earth guy who also gave me some great tips for my stay in London. The haircut itself (most important to me above all else) was great. He listens and communicates well throughout the process so there is a good feedback loop and no surprises. At the end of the cut, I was happy to say he did just as good a job as my stylist who has been cutting my hair for ages (which is a compliment). While I can understand the (mild) premium this salon charges for it's pleasant experience -- it's still a bit above my price point for a long term stylist. However, I did enjoy the experience, and will probably return if my stay in London gets extended a bit. I'm more than happy to a pay a premium to ensure a good cut while I'm out here. read more

I have tried several well reviewed, high-priced salons in this area and been very, very disappointed. Finally I went to Danny Oh, and it was great. The salon is very small and laid-back (I enjoyed listening to Beyonce's latest album on repeat throughout my color and cut). Aki did a fabulous job--unlike the other stylists I've seen recently, he was able to take a bold, skilled sculptural approach and give me a bob with really good shape. I am so grateful. I just had my hair cut here this morning by Emiko and I couldn't be more impressed with the service and the outcome! :) She fixed in one hour what four previous hairstylists couldn't and I left with an amazing haircut. She asked me before she did anything, she took her time, and even though I was in and out of there in under an hour, I didn't feel rushed. Prices are too high. The salon is very hip and the staff is nice and kind. However for what I paid I expected my hair would last al least a few hours. Instead they only styled it with the hairdryer and by the time I was home (20 mins) my hair looked terrible just as if I never went to a salon. Not the cheapest BUT I am incredibly happy with the results and therefore don't feel ripped off, you may pay a little more but it's worth it. I am compelled to write a review as I have just returned from my 4th or 5th visit to Danny Oh and it's just great! I have my hair cut and dried by Shihoh who is just lovely. She is really meticulous with her styling and I have never left the salon feeling like I couldn't immediately go out for the night, unlike many other salons where I have quickly dived into shops to look in the mirror, tied my hair back, or gone home and styled it myself! Shihoh really understood my hair type and gave me great advice and I can honestly say my hair has never been better. I have been growing it for 3.5 years and it is now quite long and she really made the difference as every other hairdresser I have had in the past 2 years (and there have been about 4) as soon as I would tell them I was growing my hair, would chop into my layers quite drastically as my hair's really thick. Shihoh told me that actually my layers needed more weight and to be longer to balance the lengths and sure enough after a couple of visits to her, I was so much happier and now won't go anywhere else! read more

After going here there everywhere to find a hairdresser and normally to find somewhere nicer because I'm inevitably disappointed, I found this place last year April randomly, and have been coming here ever since. The staff here are lovely and friendly, and Aki who I always go to is AMAZING. They always listen to what you want, are willing to go with it while tempering it with some common sense advice-first time I went, I had my natural Asian black hair and wanted to go bright blonde, so yeah, go figure :D- and I come away feeling like a brand new person. I went for a colour (highlights) and was not impressed at all. Even though the my colourist (don't remember his name) seemed to listen to my requests regarding the colour, I still ended up with a shade of blonde that I absolutely hate! I asked if they will put a toner over it and heard 'no', they told me that this is as light as they can go without bleaching my hair, all right but I should've been warned the colour will turn up 'blorange' (orange and blonde together, yuck!!!) , they said that 'since my hair is naturally quite dark this is how light they can go' which is nonsense since I had a nice shade of lighter blonde on the past and did not go bold in the process. They should be able to look judge how the end result will look , I've got quite a pale/rosy complexion and anything to yelowish/orange looks just horrible on me! After 3 weeks of hiding my new horrid hair under a hat, I ventured to another salon and had it dyed dark brown. I love it now but won't be going back to Danny Oh ever again. read more
