I was really impressed by Charmaine at EXM. Brilliant waxer, very professional and very reasonably priced.

Fabulous salon very conveniently located between Kings Cross and Farringdon! I'd been living in…read moreLondon for a couple months and hadn't gotten a haircut yet, so this was the place I selected based on other great Yelp reviews - they did not lead me wrong! The owner was very sweet and made me feel at home on my first visit. He was great at listening to what I wanted and understanding when I couldn't quite explain it. Started off with a shampoo and an AMAZING scalp massage - haven't had that in a very long time! He cut my hair with care and asked questions along the way to make sure I was happy. As I have shorter, curly, non-fussy hair, my cut and shampoo was an incredible deal of £24!! I will definitely be coming back before leaving town.

I'm almost reluctant to review this place because it's a hidden gem, but that's just too greedy, so…read moreI'm going to share my secret. Avenue manages to be both a neighbourhood salon where little old ladies pop in to have their curls set and chat a while, and also produce some lovely contemporary cuts and styles. I usually try to schedule my appointment at least a week in advance, but if I mess up, they're lovely about trying to schedule a last-minute appointment whenever possible. Fu is particularly good with short hair-- I've had problems getting a good pixie cut at some very expensive salons due to my fine hair, but he consistently does an excellent job. And as others have mentioned, the head massage during the shampoo is amazing! This really is a hidden gem-- a reasonably priced, incredibly friendly salon where everyone is welcome, I can't recommend it enough!

As a student studying abroad in a different country, finding a hair salon can be a little difficult…read moresince you literally don't know anything lol. So long story short, this mess on my head happened at a salon in the states before coming to London. I knew I didn't want to get color correction from anyone "cheap" or unprofessional since I was scarred from my last experience lol. But at the same time I'm a student so I didn't have too much in my budget for hair. I looked all over yelp and messaged the colourist J's on Instagram (@jay_kay111) literally begging for help. He was sooo sweet throughout the whole process & really took his time explaining each and every step. I felt comfortable trusting him and I could tell that he was clearly experienced with dealing with hair colors. (I also saw some amazing blend work on his ig & I was sold lol) We first had a consulting session to take a good look at my hair, get estimates, and I was able to come in for my hair appointment within the same week. During the consultation, he was honest with me on how much damage my hair would take from bleaching, etc. I liked that he kept my expectations realistic with my current hair color and status!! I bleached my hair, toned it + got olaplex which was essential bc my hair was pretty dry from past bleaching already! The staff at the salon were also all so sweet and kept offering me drinks & checking up on me even though I was fine w my water bottle. The hair color correction took 1 session (6-7 hours ), but jay let me know ahead of time that it should take around that much so I was well prepared w coffee + sandwich lol. I also just got to eat the sandwich while he was coloring my hair so I wasn't hungry or anything. He's also really easy to talk to, I walked out the salon giving him a hug HAHA Overall, a very pleasant experience +professional and friendly staff + reasonably priced (especially with the 20% first customer discount) salon!! I would def recommend it to anyone & have already recommended to my friends. :)

The cut & blowdry with thorough consultation he gave me was absolutely transformative, I couldn't be happier with the results! Unedited photo for reference.

A serious little 3-floor beauty delight!…read more I am a previous client of No 74 having been in a few years ago for a cut and color, and a very nice Yonka facial. Then I had a baby, found a waxer very close to my flat and didn't return, despite always being very happy with No 74 Hair & Beauty. Life got in the way! And now its finally out of the way, my office is around the corner and we are back in love. I booked in for a few waxing services and was (thankfully) assigned to the lovely Sarah -- who is not only an extremely lovely human, but did a fantastic job getting me in tip top shape with very minimal discomfort (seriously!). The space is GORGEOUS. Clean, well curated and spread over 3 floors. It's beautifully appointed and painstakingly considered. It is a joy to walk through the door, and it gets better once you do! I will certainly return to Sarah for all my future waxing needs as well as for facials, which she also does. Brilliant, just brilliant.

Martin, Sibel and Denis are all very lovely people and they make me feel welcome every time I walk in the door. I've been going to Sibel for my hair for the past 18 months and have been extremely happy with the quality of her cuts and her coloring skills. She's now helping me transition from my dark brown color to my natural salt and pepper in a way that doesn't look too abrubt. I'm so pleased with the results! I'm about halfway there and should be fully natural in about six months. I highly recommend this team.

I have been going to The Hairdressers for both cut and colour for the last 7 or so years - except…read morefor one disastrous experience which confirmed what I already knew - this is the only place to go for your hair! Noelle is an absolutely amazing colourist and brilliant at cutting curly hair (not an easy find), but the whole team is great too. it is a lovely experience going into The Hairdrsssers, I cannot recommend them highly enough.

The old maxim "all advertising is good, even bad advertising" does not apply to the only form of…read moreadvertising I care about, which is, of course, the self-promotion of me. Sadly I have been recently informed that not cutting your hair for 3 months could be classified as "kind of gross", which is not quite the reaction I was expecting from the rogueish pirate-y look I was going for. So I stopped ignoring the repeated reminders in my calendar that I was months past due for a hair cut and went to the aptly named The Hairdressers. I like the name, I mean, it's clear, it's concise, and you aren't exactly going to get it confused with a haberdashery now are you? If you can imagine getting a hair cut in the living room of a professional stylist who also happened to have a barber's chair and wash basin in his living room, then you have successfully imagined the interior of The Hairdressers. It's really pretty funky, set in one of the many Georgian terraces of Islington. The walls have been graffiti'ed with crayons which helps convey the impression that you are in a very hip young family's home. I've been here twice now and had two different hairdressers. Both have been young and far more stylish than me, and seem to have the miraculous ability to somehow impart some of their stylishness to my hair. This could in fact be the hair product they use as my hair never seems to be quite as good the next day when I try and replicate the result. The only thing I don't like is the price; a guy's haircut is 35 pounds (you get a 10% discount for booking your next appointment on the day). I don't know if that's a lot by London standards but it's certainly a lot by my standards. Still, I guess you get what you pay for and I've certainly felt that was the case both times.
