Really enjoyed this place, which was kind of a random find while in town to help my son move into a new dorm, and I love pleasant surprises! Staff was super friendly and welcoming, which should maybe be a given, but we know it's sadly not, and the folks here would stand out regardless! Space is relaxed (not code for divey, to be clear, just exactly that--relaxed and inviting). Good selection of beers (all on tap are local, I believe), and I enjoyed my cocktail as well. Food was excellent. One of the better burgers I've had in a while (which is saying something, as I'm sure I eat more of them than my doctor would prefer ‍). One of our group commented it was the best food she'd had in a while (crab cakes were her choice, they did look quite good). This is definitely on my list for when I'm over in Lexington now. We could not recommend Sage Rabbit more highly. My husband and I were visiting Lexington for just an evening during a longer road trip. We were traveling with our dog, so my husband picked The Sage Rabbit for dinner since they had an outdoor patio. Staff went above and beyond to make us and our dog comfortable, even giving him a bowl of water and treats! The patio was perfect for a beautiful evening of outdoor dining. We mentioned to the server that we were excited to have a relaxing evening after a long day of driving, and she read our pace perfectly! We never felt rushed, and also never ignored. Staff made sure we always had water, and anything else we needed during our dinner. They were attentive and kind. At the end of our dinner the server even gave us a recommendation for another place to check-out, which was much appreciated! We had the bread and goat cheese as a starter. My husband had the Ribeye, and I had the Crab Cakes. We recommend everything. My husband commented that the Ribeye was one of the best steaks he has ever had. The crab cakes had great flavor, and the macaroni and cheese that came with them was absolutely delicious. I was hoping to be able to sit on the patio but they had our table set up indoor- no big deal. I will say that the inside could use a bit of a "refresh"- the chairs and benches seem more than a bit worn. Our waitress was great and was able to make recommendations and answer any questions we had. There were so many tasty sounding dishes on the menu and I was interested in the veggie burger but decided to try the "Paris in Saigon" bowl and it was good but a bit soupier than I had imagined it would be- still delicious! On a Saturday night outing with our foodie friends, the Fat Man and his wife headed to the Chevy Chase area of Lexington, KY, to sample The Sage Rabbit. Sage Rabbit is a relaxed eatery with a patio serving seasonal American fare, including house-made pasta & roast pork. We ordered a couple of starters. The first was the Herbed Goat Cheese made with warm Sunrise Bakery bread. The warm bread offers a good chew. The goat cheese is creamy and salty. It pairs with the bread well. We also tried the Pan-fried oysters served with rosy red cocktail sauce and Bleu mayo. The oysters were fried to a crunchy, perfectly golden brown, while the inside was very soft and velvety. The cocktail sauce is chunky and sweet and has some great heat. The Bleu mayo is thick and salty with nice chunks of cheese. My wife had the Cobblestone cut Ribeye cooked with thyme brown butter, sauteed spinach, and Brussels sprouts. It was ordered medium rare. The steak was a significant cut, cooked closer to rare, and had great flavor and seasoning. The brown butter sauce was very flavorful and complimented the steak perfectly. However, the steak was tough on the chew. The Brussels were seasoned well but a little overcooked. The wilted spinach was a little too salty, and they were overcooked. I had the Crab Cakes with Chipotle Remoulade, mac & cheese, and spinach. The Mac and cheese noodles were cooked right at all dente, and the cheese sauce was creamy and had a good flavor. The spinach was wilted and cooked well but was very salty. The crab cake had good sear and great seasoning, while the crab-to-cake ratio was superb. The remoulade is very creamy, with some sweetness and great heat on the back end. The Sage Rabbit is a chef-owned farm-to-table restaurant offering a full bar with a menu that gives choices of starters, salads, sandwiches, and entrees. The waiter staff was highly knowledgeable and friendly. The Fat Man says that The Sage Rabbit is Fat Man Approved with 2 chins. read more

We loved the Sage Rabbit patio dining experience! It's a tiny spot with lots of character! Definitely a pet-friendly vibe! They treated our pup like their pet, offering water, treats and lots of love. For the humans: food was pretty yummy! We loved the goat cheese starter... only wished we had ordered two because we didn't want to share! Haha I had the risotto special with mushrooms and chicken, it was kinda bland and earthy. Just nice, with dark blue tablecloths and good music in the background. We started with cocktails. My spouse had the raspberry mojito and I had a negroni. Both were excellent. We shared a starter of panzanella (toasty seasoned bread cubes with roasted tomatoes & red onion with shaved asiago). Delicious and appetizing. For entrees: my spouse had pasta with chicken (homemade pasta with chunks of flavorful chicken and fresh tomatoes); she said it was great. I had pan roasted redfish over vegetables: the fish was cooked perfectly with a crispy exterior, seasoning correct, tasty sauteed fresh vegetables. Very nice. We finished with the two special desserts: zeppole with mocha gelato (killer!) and warm strawberry crisp with cream (quite good). Service was attentive. Pricing typical (about $100 before tip). Our waitress (did not remember her name) was amazing! Super attentive without being overbearing, KNOWLEDGEABLE about the menu. She was a sous chef under the owner/chef and you can tell! She was incredible! The table next to us ordered the steak and burger and they looked UNREAL! We will definitely be ordering that next time. It maybe the wine talking, but this place is charming and the food was delicious. I started out by ordering a bottle wine. Delicious. (I should mention they were out of the bottle I originally ordered, but the server recommended something and it turned out to be perfect and Delicious.) For starters we had the goat cheese and house made crackers. Crispy crackers and creamy goat cheese topped with balsamic vinegar from locally owned Stuartos. Delicious. Then we all ordered a coup course. I had the mushroom and Spinach broth. Delicious. I then decided on the risotto as an entree. At this point 3 of us polished off a bottle of wine and were working on a second bottle. I didn't finish my risotto, but it was Delicious! Local fine-dining at its best! My fiance and I celebrated our 4-year anniversary recently at The Sage Rabbit. To sum it up, our experience was wonderful. We were seated immediately and our server was lovely. Their dining area is quaint and cute. We started off with some wine. Their cocktails sound amazing. We will be trying them next time. Their wine selection is small, but you can tell each wine was perfectly chosen to pair well with their food offerings. The menu is comprised mostly of chef specials. My fiance ordered the pork entree which was pork shoulder with carrots and broccoli. I opted for the crab cakes with mac-and-cheese and roasted spinach. Delicious is the best way to describe my meal. We also ordered an appetizer of shrimp fritters. Be sure to try those when you visit! The Sage Rabbit is pricey. However, this is because EVERYTHING is made in-house. Pasta, Gnocchi, Ice Cream, all entrees, etc. are all made there. You can definitely tell the freshness of the food. They had a chicken gnocchi entree special when we visited. I wish I could have tried that as well. The location of The Sage Rabbit is interesting. It's in the Chevy Chase shopping area, however if you don't ever drive down Ashland, you wouldn't know it's there. They have their own parking lot behind the restaurant. I didn't know this so we parked down the street. All in all, I guess you could say parking is tricky and could be better. It's worth it though! Great restaurant. It's a fundamental farm to table with an elevated menu extremely well done by the chef. He is excellent. Really really well prepared dishes. Servers/staff are wonderful. (Wendy knows her stuff). We were up from coastal Georgia for our 2x per year Keeneland weekend and came here for the first time after hearing about it and doing a little research. It will be a go to place for us going forward and I highly recommend it. Some places you can just tell are solid, consistent restaurants, that only put out quality food and service. I know it's burger week, but not only was the burger not what was described online, we weren't even told by our wait staff that the burger week offering wasn't even available, technically. I did not receive a "five-ounce house ground burger topped with house beer cheese, maple-glazed bacon and fries," instead I got a plain cheeseburger on stale bread with a slice of American cheese and a couple of soggy, cold fries. The service that Savannah provided could only do so much to make up for the lack of quality and attention to the plates in front of us. I wouldn't serve the Panko fried oysters to anyone in jail. The crabcakes wouldn't have even made it across state lines in Maryland because it was so offensive. The beef in the rice bowl was tougher than a nickel steak. My husband and I dined at The Sage Rabbit on a Tuesday evening at an event co-sponsored with the Lexington Bourbon Society. It was called Smoke and Mirrors. I must note that I have Celiac Disease so events with fixed menus are always a challenge for me BUT Sage Rabbit completely accommodated me! They identified what I would not be able to have and then gave me 2-3 alternatives to substitute with no upcharge! Way to treat a customer so nicely! We had a drink at the bar before the event started Mackenzie did a great job at making cocktail suggestions. I had a drink that used bourbon and gin I don't think I have ever mixed those together but with lime juice, soda and bitters it was delightful. The drink is called a Suffering Bastard. Order it! My husband had a neat pour of Willet Pot Still. On to dinner: 1st course the cocktail was a Paper Plane with smoked oysters these were fried so I selected a creamy delicious tomato soup! 2nd course was a smoked Manhattan cocktail with short ribs corn pudding and smoked greens - outstanding! 3rd course bourbon and baileys cream drink with a salted chocolate cake. I opted for a second baileys drink. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! We were able to walk to the restaurant from home since the restaurant is located in the cozy Chevy Chase area. I might add that evening the restaurant was full of patrons not attending the event - this place is doing swift business on a Tuesday evening in Lexington. Stopped here on vacation after a long day of golf, bourbon tasting and horse racing. Saw some Yelp reviews and the menu looked good. I never expected to be wowed. Especially since I ordered the filet. I make the best filet I know so I don't usually order it in restaurants and never at a place that isn't a "steak" place. But I was hungry and thought I'd give it a try. It was the best steak I've ever had at any restaurant. Cooked perfectly and had what I think was a wine reduction sauce that added the perfect amount of saltiness. My wife ordered the veggie plate which was also truly amazing and flavorful. We live in Chicago so eating out is a thing with us and we were both very happy with our meals. Not sure we will be back in Lexington any time soon but if I find myself here I will be back. Never eat here, they did not inform me we have to eat a raw burger((I'm pretty sure they are supposed to tell you if meat is not going to be fully cooked)).....it's not on their menu and the wait staff doesn't inform you ..and the worst customer experience I have had in a restaurant. The waitress we had was above and beyond rude! No wonder they don't allow you to leave reviews on their Facebook page! They just repeated all burgers are cooked the same, however our of the 2 burgers we ordered they were definitely different levels of raw and pink! We drove 48 mins to eat here! Tonight we started with a salad of spinach, pickled beets and goat cheese tossed in an orange vinaigrette. Simple and lovely. Our entree was a bricked Elmwood chicken with a pan sauce on top of onions and peppers. This was not your ordinary chicken. Perfectly cooked and dressed. Tonight's sorbet was peach; tough to go wrong. This isn't fussy food and it's not a place to "be seen" but if you want to eat and drink well, visit Sage Rabbit soon. read more

I had dinner there three nights ago, and enjoyed it very much. The restaurant seems very vegetarian-friendly, even though I'm an omnivore. When I dined there, I had the mixed green salad with heirloom tomatoes, blue cheese, onion crisps (thin strips of onions lightly breaded and very lightly fried), with a Dijon vinaigrette. It was extremely tasty. After finishing it, I ordered the risotto of the day as my entree. The risotto was absolutely perfect, and I have high standards for risotto. It was served with yellow squash, fresh chopped rosemary and a squeeze of lemon, topped lightly with asiago cheese. I was a little surprised it wasn't offered with a protein, but that didn't bother me. When I returned there today for lunch, the risotto special was offered with shrimp, so I don't think it is always necessarily vegetarian, but it's nice to have that option. Their wine list is limited, but good. The service was very friendly and prompt, and our server responded to all our questions. One of the great things about this place is that all of their fruits and vegetables, except potatoes, are locally sourced. You really can taste the difference. I've seen complaints about the prices, but I honestly think it's comparable to most of the best quality mid-price restaurants in town, like A la lucie, Sabio, or Wines on Vine. My dinner bill, with salad, entree, and three glasses of wine, was only $55. I considerate that reasonable, but other diners may feel differently. read more

The goat cheese appetizer was good. The risotto dish I had was bland and needed more seasoning. The description said it came w shrimp and scallops. There were no scallops and the 5 tiny shrimp were over cooked. The zeppoles were also bland and felt like it was missing something, more sweetness, maybe served w ice-cream? I am finishing a wonderful meal at The Sage Rabbit. I had the fettuccine with shrimp and Asiago and my wife had the shrimp and salmon over grits special. Both were perfectly prepared and the seasoning was balanced while being innovative. Everything stood on its own but blended and complemented the other ingredients perfectly.
