I've been to Karam Lebanese Deli & Catering many times, usually for take out. A couple times I…read morepicked up catering orders. They are super helpful on the catering orders! Today, my sister and I went to the art store around the corner. After we finished shopping, she mentioned she was hungry. I told her Karam's is around the corner. It was the first time I dined in. What I liked is that you order and pay at the counter. My sister and I ordered and paid separately. I knew what I wanted and the guy at the counter pointed out that they had exactly what I wanted. I wanted falafel over salad with tahini sauce. There was also a lemon dressing. It was vegan and gluten free. The falafels were huge and tasty..some of the best falafels I've had! My sister got a beet salad, lentil soup and coffee. She liked everything she got. I took a taste of her lentil soup, it was good. She took a taste of my falafel. She liked it so much that she got an order of just falafels to go! Most of the chairs in the restaurant were hard wood or metal. I found a couple that were padded. I require padded chairs in my old age..so appreciate that was available! Definitely will be back!

This is a new cart that appears to have taken over the body of the Golden Saigon Pho cart. Checking…read moreout the menu, this place has potential. However, I was a little disappointed in the meal. I ordered the special, which was a Shawarma Plate (chicken). It came with rice, hummus, bread, and tabouli. The presentation was decent, I mean, the meal looked pretty good but it was lacking. The chicken didn't have enough spice to it, it was somewhat bland. I could pick out a few of the key spices used but nothing really stood out. Every now and then I would get a bite and think "that's what I'm looking for" but, it wasn't consistent throughout the dish. The rice was not bad but again, kind of plain. Going in for the hummus I got a good taste of garbanzos but not much else. I was hoping for a tinge of tahini, garlic, or lemon (or all of them) but just couldn't find what I wanted in it. The bread was also lacking in much substance, just your average flat bread (not bad but, when the hummus isn't up to par you're really just eating bread and garbanzos). The rescuing component of the meal was the tabouli (or tabbouleh to many). The parsley was there with a bit of mint and enough tomato to accent the bulgur. I actually really enjoyed the salad. In fact, mixing the salad in with a bit of the shawarma and hummus made for a decent makeshift sandwich with the bread. All in all, they need to work on the balance of spices and flavor in the food. Shooting for what they did with the tabbouleh would be a good start. As it stands now, just too many bland or mediocre components to the whole thing. Being a pretty new cart, I'm hoping they can bring it up a notch as I'm always looking for a good Mideastern place to eat.

(Found this cart at Green Castle food pod -- NE 20th and Everett)…read more This is a halal cart with a good-sized menu. Pictures are posted next to the menu to give one an idea of what the food looks like. Food porn at its finest. You can get a plate or a wrap on several of the options. I simply got a simple $5 lamb gyro here (chicken option also available). Very reasonable price and perfect as street food. As usual, I am partial toward the thicker pitas for gyros because, for me, it stands up to a substantial amount of food packed inside. Juicy, delicious strips of lamb and fresh vegetables. I hoped for feta -- even if it costs a little extra -- but at least at the time of my visit, there was no such option. The tzatziki could use just a bit more seasoning to compensate for the lack of feta. Overall, I'd say it was still a success. The Zataar Pizza ($3) also caught my eye. It's an Arabic food popular in many Middle Eastern countries. Saw some pics online and it looks pretty damn good. I'll have to give that a try someday. Another trip to this cart is in my future!

From a true gyro connoisseur, this is an Ok gyro. It's not bad, but also not great. The ratio of…read moremeat to veg is off (way too much lettuce). It also has very thin gyro meat you can see in the photos that are like slices you can buy at the store vs the thick electric serrated knife cut chunks I prefer. The thicker meat gives more flavor of the herbs when you bite in, but this has way Too much veg. The bread should also be toasted or grilled. It was soft so likely warmed. I will try the other gyro cart next time. If you want the best gyro in Portland (though their hours are horrible) make the effort to go to Cedos on MLK. It will change your life. Would I order a gyro here again? Probably not, whip is why I gave it two stars. I figure other items here are likely better. And the improvements would be pretty simple. Nice service. Great ambiance when the weather is nice outside.
