I went in today to have three small fixes. I was rudely responded to that I am not a bride so the items would not be seen until early August. If you were open 5 days a week maybe you could support customers with little jobs or just take 40 minutes to help me out. Update: I do not agree with your response. Small mending jobs, hemming, and slight alterations are your bread and butter for the year. I acknowledge that weddings are your priority at this time, but my job would have been quick and could have been added to a days' work. When I spoke with other vendors they acknowledged that was not a good business model, turning away business. While you may think not accepting work and commenting that I was not a bride is a good service conversation, as I read other reviews, many feel you are rude when communicating with them. I commented on your times that you are open because Google said you are open three days a week, your website says 5 days, and other sites say 4. It is not clear to a customer who has to travel downtown for the work. read more

Dropped off a bridesmaid dress for alterations and they did a beautiful job and it was so fast. I worried with the holidays it would be a problem, but they had planned ahead and were able to make everything work. My new dress pants legs were hemmed with 1/4 inch difference. When I returned to their location I was told that I was wrong and that the pant legs were even. They were not interested in measuring with a tape measure only that I put them on and they repair them. I had no intention of having the tailor correct this error as they vehemently would not believe me and as well their initial hemming workmanship was shoddy. I only asked for a refund so that I could go somewhere else or do the repair myself. I left without a refund and/or an apology. Therefore, I would not recommend them because of their inferior workmanship, lack of customer service and their lack professionalism and common decency. read more

Acceptable work but the price for two darts and one snap on a shirt was $45, which is exorbitant and roughly twice the price of similar alterations by other professionals in town. I will never go back again. read more

In the past I have brought in some jeans to get stitched up, and I was pleased with the work preformed. I recently brought in a hugo boss suit to get altered, and they did a great job with the alterations, I also found the service to be pleasant. The turn around is slow, but they were upfront about how long the alterations would take, the services they provide were also expensive. However the work speaks for itself, and while you may be able to find cheaper tailors on the island, I would HIGHLY recommend you take any "high end" garments to be altered at "The Russian Tailor" if you want the alterations done properly (I'm not saying Hugo Boss is high end, it's not, but if you're going to wear a workhorse suit you may as well look good in it). I plan to bring my Brioni suit here in the future to see if they can do more complicated alterations, frankly "The Russian Tailor" is most likely home to the best tailors the island has to offer. These were the rudest people I have ever met! I emailed asking for a quote: no response. Then I dropped in and asked for a quote to so a simple hemming job on a pair of pants. They wanted $20 plus tax! I would have only paid $6-$7 for this type of work in Toronto and told them this; the man was rude and basically told me to go back to Toronto and get it done. Stay away. BRIDES, Just a heads up!! I have recently brought my wedding dress to "The Russian Tailor" down on Douglas street. She RUINED my dress!! I asked for the padding to be removed from the bra part and the hips to be able to fit better. Well, she did the hips great.. But left the padding in the top and instead took 3"inches of fabric out of each shoulder!!! I now have a dress with 4" inches of fabric on my belly!! I look pregnant!!! ANNNDD!!!! My tits are just below my collar bones! When I asked her if anything could be done to fix the stomach and remove the padding she told me.. And I quote" Wear a bra, and hold some flowers in front of you!" WTF!!!! I am telling EVERYONE!!! DO NOT GET YOUR DRESS ALTERED AT THE RUSSIAN TAILOR!!! I am getting married in 3 months!! Stupidly, I already paid for the dress being altered. We had 3 or 4 fittings and on the 3rd fitting I felt bad that she had done so much work and didn't get anything for it yet. I feel like after I paid for the alterations she just wanted to get rid of me!! I was so angry. I just left. If I could give half a star... I would! read more

Allow me to preface this review by stating that I wear a suit every day for work. I have many dress shirts and getting a shirt tailored is a fairly routine thing for me. I recently purchased two nice dress shirts from the Bay and took them to the Russian Tailor in hopes of having them brought in. The store was recommended by one of the salesman from the Bay. The owner, the Russian Tailor herself, butchered both of them. The first was so tight in the back that the slightest flex to any muscle risked tearing a button. In fact, she had done such a poor job that even raising my arms caused the sleeves to rise up to my elbows. Amusingly, the owner explained that I had allowed her to pin the shirt without an undershirt on, and so the problem was that I was now attempting to wear the shirt with an undershirt. When I tried the shirt again, without my thin white t-shirt/undershirt, the owner exclaimed that the shirt was now 'ok'. It was not. The second shirt did not fit at all, which to her credit she immediately acknowledged, and she is attempting to re-tailor it back to the original form - I have yet to pick it up from her so will comment when I do. As it was, she botched two nice dress shirts. Again, I will re-post after I've picked up the one shirt she intends to repair. Hugely dissatisfied with the quality of the work as well as the customer service. At one point the owner exclaimed that I should have corrected her when she pinned the shirt underneath my arms! I attempted to explain that I was not watching her place the pins and I don't really think that's the customer's responsibility, but I believe she missed my point. read more

I had a very good experience here. I had a very important event and found out my suit didn't fit, so I brought all 3 pieces to be taken in. She had it back to me in a week just in time for my event. I took some sports clothing to TRT for specific alterations on difficult fabric. They were recommended by a local business, so figured I would give them a try. The results - and the price - couldn't have been better! I only live on the island part time, but TRT does such a great job I save up my alterations and bring them with me when I visit.
