Small little restaurant tucked away in The Zed hotel. As we were staying at the Zed it was a no brainer to try this place when we wanted to get some grub without having to driver or catch a ride into downtown. The menu was impressive for both breakfast and lunch/dinner. While it does open at 8, the don't start serving the boozy breakfast drinks until 9. Not saying I'm a boozer but like Chick-Fil-a, you crave it when you can't have it. Breakfast was good. Huevos Rancheros was on point with right amount of spicyness. Kids like the breakfast potatoes and bacon. Wife got the breakfast sandwich which was messy but good. Kids loved the donuts here. Drink menu was small but good. Prices are ok but nothing out of the ordinary for the area. While I didn't have lunch or dinner here the options seem decent and would imagine it would be good just like their breakfast. Would recommend if you want a break from the downtown for food. read more

Just open this week so decided to try it. ordered a duck confit benny. the benny was perfectly cooked with a nice truffle hollandaise sauce. The hashbrown was a potato and sweet potato combo. I was impressed enough i had couple friends drop by for happy hour. they enjoyed couple deep fried wings, chicken poutine and a ratatouille. Small but welcoming, nested in the reception area of a 70's themed hotel close to the heart of Victoria. Service is friendly and accommodating, patrons are mixed between hipsters, families, locals, and hotel guests. Food is colourful and fresh. Tasty and worth the trip to visit. Bathrooms facilities are clean. I had to add a couple of complementary comments.. The waitress made a mini mistake in the order and she bought us a couple of Bailys shots for our coffees. A super eclectic restaurant that plays music via records! They've got a great menu for brunch and their meals are made with quality ingredients. Flavors pop for sure! Prices are marginally higher than other brunch places but it reflects the quality of the meal you will receive. Our medium-poached eggs were completely solid, sweet potatoes so undercooked they were inedible, and the flavour and cooking techniques were so subpar I'm still shaking my head. The moment you walk in you know it's gonna be good. Attached to a super chic Mid Century Modern styled motel, The Zed. We had the chicken with the best corn bread I have ever tasted. We also had the chicken and waffles, amazing. Our daughter had the poutine that was great too. Our son devoured the grilled cheese and he said it was the best he has had. Great breakfast to be had at this place. I don't know why, but Victoria has so many breakfast joints. Add to your list the Ruby. A small part of the Hotel Zed lot. It's also a lot quieter than some of the bigger breakfast places downtown (not in a bad way). Breakfast tacos were filling and provides a lot of variety. The house made hot sauces add a nice touch. They're good, but I do prefer my tacos during lunch. The highlight was probably the breakfast poutine. 2 poached eggs with hollandaise sauce as the gravy atop the stack of potato...taters? The sausage and bacon round off this meal. Certainly not an everyday meal, but it's a very welcoming one at that. I came here for lunch while waiting for my car to be fixed. I had past it a few times and the resturant as well as hotel had cought my eye. I read the reviews and they looked steller. However one review was not, and that's okay. Not everyone has a good experience or maybe they didn't like the food. No matter. HOWEVER the response from a Ruby employee on the comment was shocking. Filled with attitude and sass. I was very tempted to avoid resturant due to the poor attitude of this employee. I went anyway and got amazing service, humorous and kind. I had the Chicken taco salad and it was marvelous! Loads of flavor, light (didn't feel sick after due to heavy meats and sauce like other resturants) and the portion was ideal. Could have used a little more chicken however. I also tried thier fries with roasted garlic aoli because I love me some fries and Aoli. The fries where fries, a little tough, they looked like they should be soft and crispy but sadly they where not. Still yummy. The aoli was not as flavourful as I had hoped, needed more spice and bigger serving or less fries. Overall still good. My last move was to order the doughnuts. They where so good. Slightly crispy on the outside but soft and warm on the inside. They make them fresh for you and come with a chocolate dipping sauce. Overall I had a great time and there was good food and friendly staff. Will return and I think everyone shoukd give this place a try. read more

I recently took one of my kids here for breakfast. Given the lines I have seen when driving past my expectations were high. Instead I was grossly underwhelmed. My son had the Skinny Hash and it was grossly sweet. I had the Duck Hash and the duck was cooked to the point where it was tough and flavourless. Duck being one of my favourite meats, I was horrified to see it treated so thoughtlessly. When I am out for breakfast it is important to me that my coffee cup be kept filled and hot. This place is worthy of being on the main strip of touristy exposure so all can try it's delicious fare, but I hope it stays right where it is, lest it gets too crowded for everyone else. Came here with my husband and a friend and we revelled in the rotiserrie pork hash, the chicken tacos, and the rotisserie chicken and waffles. Everything was delicious with generous portions. My chicken and waffles were with a juicy and flavourful portion of chicken and big waffles. Next time I may get the gravy on the side. The chicken tacos were declared tempting of a return visit already. My husband really enjoyed his pork hash which came garnished with refreshing chimichurri. Prices for lunch were pretty on-par with other downtown restaurants, and definitely worth venturing out of the downtown core to try. read more

This our last night in Victoria and I was we would have come here the first night. The food and service were great and the atmosphere was pretty cool. I loved the LPs collection. I stopped in on a Thursday morning and had the Manny Tacquiao (sp?) breakfast tacos. Corn tortillas covered with scrambled eggs, pico de gallo, and a mix of various veg and sauce. They also came with a portion of fried potato. They were quite delicious and a fairly generous proportion. The coffee was also very good (Discovery Coffee blend I believe). Service was also prompt and courteous. About the only negative is that corn torillas can be a bit tough to cut with a regular table knife, and I didn't think to ask for a steak knife until almost done - I was too busy eating and enjoying the food! read more

Visiting from out of town, I ordered the duck confit eggs benny. I found the hollandaise sauce to be tart, which I wasn't to fond of. I The duck confit was well marinated and very juicy, which made the hollandaise sauce not so bad. The croissant that I got it on was nice and fluffy. The hash browns were very dry and hard to chew. I would have liked if they were not cooked to the point of drying them out. Overall the dish was okay, I probably would not order it again because I didn't like the hollandaise sauce but I did like the croissant and duck confit. This place was a wonderful surprise. House made rotisserie chicken made without injecting oil and using a dry rub was my favorite. A couple of people in our group had duck, confit and poutine.
