Saturday 3rd July 2010.
My Mother, Brother, Boyfriend and I headed for the Royal Oak Inn in Saunderfoot. Normally we'd go here to enjoy the view of the St.Brides on the cliff top.
However we were so sorely dissappointed with our evening. It was an absolute shambles!!
Let me begin with the service, the bar man was blunt calling colleagues 'dude' and 'mate' considering you're paying £25 per head you don't particularly want to hear this.
When our food arrived the portions were very generous which is always expected, but the person waiting our table did not ask us if we wanted anything else such as sauces or drinks, it then took us ten extra minutes to get someone's attention to get sauces by that time we'd eaten all the onion rings and didn't particulary need the additional sauces.
The most chavvy music you could ever imagine was put on half way through our meal, I believe the 'Do re mi sound of music' remix appeared. This cut through the ambiance in the pub like a cleaver!!
When ordering our desert, I couldn't contain myself with laughter as the service was so poor!! The ice cream wasn't available because it had melted apparently, as staff were under trained and didn't know what was on the desert menu we were served by three different people due to lack of knowledge! Lemon cheescake was changed to chocolate cheesecake, pavalova was unavailable - the list goes on!!
I was so shocked as you would expect the pub to have a high standard as it's situated in the centre of a high tourist destination in Pembrokeshire. I would have expected the staf to be very attentive, pay attention to detail and make sure the table was well looked after. After all it is peak season for them and their staff are under trained, would they cope when the pub is to it's full capacity, I don't think so. Something drastic needs to happen for these issues to be addressed.
We refused to have desert in the end as the options were so minimal, we headed to tesco and bought Gü chocolate fondant which is amazing and Frü passion fruit and mango cheesecake, third of the price the Royal Oak Inn were charging for their deserts!!
I would normally highly reccomend this pub to anyone, good for a few drinks, but I am never going back there for food again. read more
