On a warmer day we might have enjoyed sitting outside in their quaint little beer garden, but it was the perfect moment to bag a table by the fire. Top marks for a menu that takes vegetarians seriously and gives us plenty of tasty options and glowing praise too for the steaks that were cooked to perfection and for the excellent the cod & chips in Dougs special batter. OK the ladies loos had seen very much better days, but I'll gloss over the details since everything else was terrific. It's directly opposite the 'Palace' which despite being called a palace is actually an old stone shed of some mild historical significance that is worth a quick look if you're into that kind of thing. The food menu is heavily fish-based and the pub is famed for its steaks, so there are plenty of fish and steak options to choose from, though some of the usual pub meals you'd expect are missing. We found the food was OK, if I had to criticise it I'd say it was a tiny bit dry and a little overpriced but not too bad. Very friendly service, with no problems. If you're driving round this corner of Wales then you could do far worse than stopping here for lunch. If you're thinking of stopping by in the mid-afternoon, it might be worth phoning ahead to check if it's open, because the opening times seem to vary and sometimes it closes between lunch and the evening.

While the pub provides a really nice atmosphere, the service is slow and the food is worse than what you get in the average British pub. Half an hour after we've ordered our food, we asked how much longer it will take, and they said that they'd overlooked our order, and that they'll make sure that our meals are prepared immediately. Another half our later, when we already considered to leave and asking them to give us our money back, the food arrived. The chips were soggy, the rice wasn't freshly cooked, and the "prawns" in the prawn curry turned out to be tiny shrimps.
