The Best 7 Day Vacation EVER! Although we went for my husbands dental work, we were able to turn our trip in to an amazing vacation. Our first few days were spent at a smaller hotel close to the dental clinic. We then moved to The Royal Islander on that Saturday. Check in was at 4 pm. We did arrive early at 1pm. As we pulled up, we were greeted by a Bellman who took our luggage to be delivered to our room. Let me get to the one downside of this trip. Upon arrival we were told that the computer system was down. Which meant that the checkin process was going to be different and a cash deposit was going to be needed in instead of a credit card. That was very unfortunate. What if we did not have cash? Then....we had to wait for our room to be cleaned in order to be fully checked in. They did not provide much direction. So we were on our own trying to fill up the time. It was very busy and crowded so we did our best. Finally we got checked in and went to our Ocean Facing Suite. OMG..... we had the best view of the ocean. That right there made me easily forget our earlier experience. Our room was great. Beds comfy. We did not do any of the activities offered. We really did not know or understood how it all worked. So we just enjoyed the pool. Enjoyed the beach. And enjoyed the food. Pacos Tacos was closed. But we were able to order from their menu which was amazing. All in all.... will we go back? Absolutely. The resort is amazing. There is Renovation going on. But man when it is all done this will be a premier place to stay.

The security guard who blocked us from getting on the bus because we did not eat at the restaurant.

After being a continuous guest at the Royal Resort, we are so disappointed by the way we were treated when a security guard from Captain's Cove would not allow us to ride the shuttle back to our hotel because we did not eat at Captain's Cove. By the time we got back to the hotel, they had already heard from the security guard and said that the reason we could not ride the bus was because it was full. The manager from the ROYAL SANDS was no help. Not even I'm sorry that this happened to you.

This is my second stay at this resort. They are currently (2020) undergoing a renovation on part of the property. That section is closed so don't fear booking a stay here. I selected this hotel because of the availability of a 2 bedroom suite. As you arrive to the resort they have bellmen to assist you with your luggage so it makes it easy for checkin. The facility is dated but has been well maintained and the staff are very helpful. The checkin process is quick and then your greater by the concierge and presented with a welcome gift. I booked the 2 bedroom suite. The room is a "lock out" type so there is 2 different rooms. Our main suite has a full kitchen, dining area with living room, very large master room and bath, and large balcony. In the living room there are 2 twin Murphy beds. The other room is set up as a mini suite with 2 doubles a small kitchenette, and full bathroom.

For those reading this, please share because Royal Resorts Cancun Mexico has made this the worst birthday since the passing of my mother. I want everyone to know how they treat their customers. Before the pandemic I reserved and paid for this vacation with Royal Resorts | Cancun. Subsequently my charge card had a charge that wasn't mine. My bank, Santander, voided that card and issued me a new one. I informed the Resort of such and was told that it would not be a problem. Well, upon arrival they are telling me that I have to produce that card to get a refund and they charged my new card, also with Santander, with that amount plus at today's exchange rate. Is that how you treat return visitors? I think not. I do believe I will be contacting the news when I return home if they do not make good Before I leave.

The Royal Islander is one of several Royal Resorts in the Riviera Maya area of Mexico (besides the Royal Islander, they also have the Royal Cancun and the Royal Sands in Cancun, and the Royal Hacienda in Playa del Carmen). The hotel has its good points and bad points. On the good side, the views from this hotel are spectacular: the beach in front of the hotel has the most beautiful turquoise water. The hotel's pool is large, clean and very well-maintained. They have a very well-stocked market (The Royal Market) in the lobby with a wide selection of everything from food, wine, snacks, traveler's needs (like medications, phone chargers etc.), souvenirs (t-shirts, hats and much more). All their prices are very reasonable. There's a coffee shop in the lobby (The Royal Roast Coffee Company) that makes excellent coffee. All guests receive 2 free passes to the Museo Maya de Cancun, which has a Mayan ruins and is located right near the Hotel. On the not-so-good side, the staff are poorly informed and many times while I was there, I received conflicting answers to the same question. There is no directory of the hotel's services in the room, so I didn't find out about many of the things available until it was too late. They have a self-service laundry available, but it's not open on Sunday and closes at 4:30 PM (if it's self-service, why can't it be open 24 hours???). The rooms, while large, are poorly divided and much of the space is wasted in a foyer or vestibule. The hotel is on the older side and while the rooms are tiled in travertine, they are in need of serious updating. There are not enough electrical outlets. The restaurants in the hotel are really not worth mentioning. This large hotel does not have a gym, which is odd because almost every hotel I've ever stayed at has even a small gym available.

I stayed here last week. Like most resorts in Cancun, it is located directly on the beach. Honestly, I would only recommend resorts that are on the beach. There are many options you can select from breakfast included to all inclusive, depending on how much you want to spend. We did only breakfast included, and this is because we tend to spend most days off campus doing excursions and tourist activities, so we would miss any other included meal. If you are someone who tends to enjoy more just hanging out on the beach, staying at the resort, and drinking, you will probably save money doing all inclusive. The very best part of this resort is the service staff. Everyone we met was just incredible. They were happy, friendly, helpful and welcoming. A special thanks goes out to Socorro. She is sort of like a roaming concierge and one lady welcoming party. She could direct us wherever we needed to go, and was always happy to spend as much time with us as needed. She seemed to truly love her job. The need special shout out goes to Jesus. He works the afternoon shift at the excursion/tour/activity booth (he gets in around 3pm). All resorts have a booth that sell off campus activities. The reason I liked Jesus is that he is not pushy/aggressive, as some sales people can be. In addition, his pricing is fair. You have to be careful in Cancun and Mexico in general. All prices tend to be negotiable and you might over pay if you are not savvy. I am familiar with this process, and can tell you Jesus never once tried to take us for a ride. Definitely wait for him and his shift. Lastly, the only reason for being a 4 star instead of 5 star, is that the furnishing in the room are not very modern. From the rooms I saw, and my room, most of the beds/wallpaper/art/electronics, seem to be quite outdated. Oh, and one final PSA. Be careful, they also try to get you to do timeshare sales presentations. These are typically high pressure and uncomfortable. Unless this is your thing, I'd avoid them. **I did not upload many pictures as you can find this easily on their website, but I did send you a picture of the turtles :)

This is a bargain priced resort. If this is the only cancun resort in your budget then go for it. The view from the rooms is great , the pool nice, and you can use it as a home base. My two biggest complaints about this place is that the beach is so eroded it's no longer really swim-able; they put concrete slabs all down the beach that the waves push you into and the food SUCKS.

If you can afford to go elsewhere in Cancun, pay the extra $ and go! My girlfriends and I were NOT impressed with our 3 night stay here. This hotel is in the hotel zone but fairly far from downtown Cancun, which is where the party scene is. Downtown is about a 20 minute bus ride from here. The hotel itself is located at the top of a hill, so you'd need to take a 5 minute walk down to the main road to catch the bus. The only reason why my girlfriends and I ended up here is because this was one of the very few hotels in Cancun that offered two-bedroom suites. There were 6 of us altogether and we did not want to be separated into different hotel rooms. Once we got our room #, it took us FOREVER to find our room! It's so confusing to find your room! Generally with hotels, the first # in your room # is the floor it's on, right? Not with this hotel! And what didn't help was that even though the guy at the front desk gave us a map and drew directions to our room, he transposed one of the #'s and we were led in the wrong direction! So frustrating! The most ANNOYING part of this stay was the fact that we had to move into a new hotel room for our 3rd night. The timeshare owner of our first room was coming that weekend and needed their room so we ended up staying in two different hotel rooms over our 3 night stay. WTF! The suite itself was pretty outdated but it had all the amenities we needed. A full kitchen, a mini fridge in each bedroom, a living room and a huge balcony that faced the ocean. There is also a mini-mart on the first floor near the lobby, but they won't take cash. In fact, the restaurants wont take cash or credit card either. You need to pay with your room key and then they put it on your room bill, which is super ANNOYING! I am definitely staying elsewhere on my next trip to Cancun.

Don't stay here - horrible customer service Fees, fees fees. So many better options. The royal islander starts there swindle by first having you come into the front and you are greeted by the "concierge" before you get to the front desk. The full court press begins here as they ask you question after question in hopes of getting you to buy a time share in there resort. You are also informed once you get there an additional 350$ to 500$ hold will be put on your room for charges you may incur during your stay. The concierge will walk you to the front desk where they hand that person your room key and he sells to you the whole way to your room. If that is not enough he comes into your room and tries to sign you up for things for another 40 mins. Me and my gf finally agreed to goto a presentation where They offer you "free activities" if you just listen to a 90 Min pitch about why you should invest in a money sink over lunch. but in all actuality you will feel like you are being held hostage by sales people. The concierge had the front desk issue 9am wake up call that we didn't ask for to make sure we were up and ready to go to this presentation. They then put you on a bus for 1.5 hours to another location that is as crappy as the islander and offer you "lunch" which were about 3 hot plates of fish, bread, and warm salad. You then are pressured by salespeople for 3 hours on what price are you willing to pay them monthly to own a timeshare and when they finally take your no as final you are stuck at tis place for 4 more hours before you can get back on the bus (another 1.5 hours) and get back to your room essentially wasting a vacation day. The islander has no gym but you are allowed to go to the adjacent resort and work out at that gym for a daily fee charged The islander doesn't have a hot tub but you are free to goto another one of there family of resorts where you will be charged There is a shuttle bus that travels up and down the strip hourly that is always packed but you can take a cab service that will only take cash that security is more than happy to call for you with there whistles. The problem is the price listed is not what you will pay as the taxi will demand more than the "110 - 130 pesos" posted on the resorts as the fee. And when you complain to management they blame it on bad English which only seems to be a problem when money comes into play There is a charge for literally anything you can think of and everyone that works here is trying there hardest to get into your pockets. It is worth it to stay at one of the more established resorts here such as the j.w. Marriott or the Omni because the money you may have saved booking this trip will add right up in hidden fees and charges

This place isn't the best resort to stay in Cancun. There are many things in this hotel that will surprise you (i.e. things that you would expect to find in a standard hotel). First of all, they do not provide a new set of soap or shampoo every day. You kind of expected to use the same ones everyday. Second, they do not clean your room on Sundays since the employees need to rest as well (management could have rotated the resting days for existing employees). Third, coffee isn't provided to the rooms everyday. Apparently, they only provide coffee on your first day. We challenged the management that of we check out the next day, and check in the very moment, they will provide coffee. This honestly makes no sense. Fourth, their pool side restaurant menu isn't complete. I would expect more standard mexican food, but all they have are standard americanized food. Not to mention that their fish isn't fresh at all. There are positive things in this hotel. For example, they have a grass tennis court and a nice pool. They are also located by the beach so the view is pretty. My conclusion is that I do not recommend this place in Cancun

And with billboards offering services directly to your room and a hospital system where you only go if you're sick. The "grey area" is a pretty loose term. The entire hotel is illuminated with L.E.D.'s. The space is immaculate. It was 1/4 mile from the room to the lobby. The ballrooms and convention spaces are like a stadium. (Indoors or outdoors). The public bus arrives every (2) minutes and are often full. It is approximately .50 US to go 30 miles downtown. Just looking at the creative ideas a child could write a book . "This ain't Tijuana". The malls and beaches are protected by federal soldiers and the streets have checkpoints every mile. They obtain your information and destination. If something is off a militia is on alert. Every single person that works at this property is out of this world! Kind, helpful and always going above and beyond to make things memorable! There's always a little bit of construction because they're renovating, so plan accordingly by calling with them to make sure the areas you want open, are open. The new speakeasy is super cute. We visited there one evening and have the best time and service! This isn't the same restaurant where you go to breakfast but at night is a Spanish tapas restaurant. Everything was fantastic but all the food on the property is really great! We especially loved to order lunch by the pool. All the cocktails are fantastic, even poolside! Rooms are standard JW with some of them recently updated with the others on their way to being updated. Yes, there is a sort of a musty smell in the air, but that's in most hotels. It's a very hard to keep those highly humid rooms from smelling a little musty. You just have to get over it and enjoy the time outside the room. Pools are super cute and the beach area is nice. There is an adult pool that is open during the day but wish it was open later! Lots of places in walking distance if you decide to venture out of the property but why would you need to! Easy drive from the airport and to the downtown or for departure to Isla Mujeres. We did not go to the island this time but last time we booked everything through the hotel and they made it super easy.

Unfortunately, for the past two years, our experiences have declined significantly. The hotel no longer maintains the level of service and standards we once loved. The atmosphere feels different, the staff are not as welcoming, and there is a noticeable lack of attentiveness and care. During this stay, we had a particularly unpleasant two-day experience at the beach regarding the setup of lounge chairs and umbrellas. Rather than going into every detail, I will simply say the situation was handled poorly and left us very disappointed. What was most upsetting was that no meaningful effort was made to resolve the issue or make up for the inconvenience. Even after speaking with Guest Relations, who mentioned contacting the General Manager, nothing improved the following day. No accommodation or gesture was offered, which was surprising given the hotel's luxury positioning. It is also noticeable that the property feels quite empty during weekdays, except on special occasions or long weekends. Even then, the warmth and hospitality we once associated with this hotel seem to be missing. That said, I want to sincerely recognize Valenzo, who served us daily. He was professional, kind, and incredibly attentive. We never had to ask for anything, he would notice small details, like refilling ice before we even realized it was melting. His service was outstanding and he truly tried to make our stay better. Thank you, Valenzo. You made a difference. It is genuinely sad to see a place that once meant so much to us lose its standard. We hope management takes guest feedback seriously and invests in retraining staff to restore the level of service this property was once known for.

I like the aromatherapy touch in the resort and in our rooms being able to choose which scent you wanted was very nice. I loved the separation of the toilet and shower by a wall and doors for privacy when using either. The water pressure and water temperature in the shower was great although there was some water draining from the shower during use. We would generally put a foot towel down to contain the water. The room was serviced twice daily so we were never without towels, etc. I also utilized the laundry service which was reasonably priced for three pieces of clothing and it was returned the next day. The staff was generally very courteous and helpful (we only had one less than courteous experience with a waiter at the Hidden Garden on our last evening). The food at the restaurants and by the beach and pool area was great - I cannot say enough about the fresh fruit and the grilled ribs and chicken so well seasoned and cooked with flavor. We ate daily in Siete for breakfast (the smoothie station you will need to go to first because it fills up because the smoothies are sooo good). We also dined at Hidden Garden where I enjoyed Indian cuisine which was delicious (but a small portion). All inclusive so it was nice not having to continually carry payment and only the gratuity needed for the staff. The last two mornings of our stay there appeared to be construction in the room next door or our floor which was disturbing - we did alert the front desk staff and it would generally stop around a certain time. Getting beds and chairs at the beach was generally easy but for the pool it was the hunger games usually having to place towels or bags on chairs early to 'reserve' them (there are no reservations for chairs only for the larger cabanas for an additional fee) We also experienced the spa which was amazing. La Joya- serving authentic Mexican cuisine with incredible presentation. With its prime beachfront location, relaxing pools, outstanding dining options, and exceptional service, Grand Fiesta Americana Cancun delivers a truly luxurious experience. I would absolutely recommend this resort and would love to stay here again.

I have nothing but good things to say about this place for a all inclusive, ADULTS ONLY resort. The resort it self was clean, modern and flawless. The service and people working there was top notch, everyone made us feel like royalty. The food was so good, obviously some spots weren't perfect but 90% of the time we LOVED what we ate. Was full inclusive so we ate a ton and drank a lot! The pools were beautiful and lots of options having 4. From Tuesday to Thursday it was so easy to get a spot at the pool or beach, would show up at 11am and find a two chairs and umbrella no problem. Friday/Saturday it was a bit harder since it's the weekend so the pool area was packed by 1pm but went to the beach and again found two spots with umbrella no problem. Beach was solid for hotel zone, this area of Cancun is known for having bad seaweed but the resort did its best to keep it cleaned up. Was able to get in the water some days and not see the seaweed everywhere. We did a preferred booking so got room on a higher floor, exclusive quick check in, access to roof top pool and restaurant. So if you don't care about those things just do a regular room but the upstairs pool was incredible. This place is definitely a relaxing resort, not a ton to do at night but that's what we wanted for our honeymoon. Pool can be somewhat lively during the day with music, and performances but at night it's just casual bars, restaurants and what not. Everything dies down before 12. Did a spa day too and it was great, had a couples massage, full body scrub, and hydrotherapy circuit for two that costs $398. I recommend booking it when you arrive as they may have deals. It was a great experience overall, we would for sure come back 100%!!! Every single worker there was so nice and helpful. Did not have a single bad experience with anyone that worked there.

Great breakfast and lunch buffets. I wish the food was a little better at the restaurants but it got the job done. No reservations needed unlike some of the other all-inclusive hotels. Excellent service the entire stay. Great beach access. Get out to the pool/beach early if you want to reserve a chair for the day. If not, people leave around lunch time and you can snag their chair. Located in the hotel zone of Cancun so it only took maybe 15 minutes to get there from the airport. Gated resort with an attendant. We never felt unsafe and even ventured off of the property to check out the shops across the street. I would highly recommend this resort!

The overall location is fantastic, and the views are absolutely stunning. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the restaurant situation. Most of the good restaurants require reservations, and they fill up quickly, so you don't always get the chance to use them. Other than that, it's a wonderful experience!

I honestly don't know how this hotel has any positive reviews. I stayed here for just one night,…read moreand it was horrible from start to finish. Room condition: The moment we entered, I noticed mold on the floor, which is completely unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one advertised as all-inclusive in Cancún. The room felt dirty and outdated, and I honestly didn't want to touch anything on the floor. Sharing a small bed with my sister made the night even more miserable, and the furniture barely felt usable. Cleanliness: Absolutely terrible. Not only was there mold, but the general vibe of the hotel made it feel uncared for. I wouldn't trust anything in the room that might touch my skin or clothes. Environment: Outside the room, there were ants crawling everywhere, which is gross and completely avoidable. The hotel clearly doesn't maintain its property properly. Food & Amenities: The food was honestly mid at best--nothing to write home about. Limited options, bland taste, and completely underwhelming for a resort that calls itself all-inclusive. After seeing the room and the unsanitary conditions, I honestly didn't even bother trying much. Overall experience: This place is not worth your money. One night here feels like a lifetime of discomfort. If you're expecting a clean, comfortable, all-inclusive resort, stay far away. The beach might be okay, but that's not enough to make up for moldy floors, tiny beds, mid-tier food, and ant infestations. Rating: 1/5 stars--maybe even 0 if Yelp allowed it. This hotel deserves the low reviews it gets. I can't stress enough: don't stay here unless you want to ruin your vacation. Update: This place somehow got even worse overnight. People were blasting random music at full volume outside until 1 AM, and the hotel did absolutely nothing--no control, no quiet hours, nothing. Sleeping here was basically impossible. On top of that, the bedsheets were so bad they made my skin irritation significantly worse, and I woke up in actual pain. Between the noise, disgusting conditions, and zero management, this was easily one of the worst nights I've ever had anywhere. Avoid this place at all costs.

Hard Rock Cancun feels more like a faded backstage pass. *AMBIANCE* The hotel is noticeably dated--worn furniture, tired decor, and not well kept. In some guest hallways and rooms, you are hit with a strong MILDEW / MOLD smell the second you walk in, which was an instant red flag and made it hard to appreciate anything else. We had to switch rooms after the first night from the smell which gave me a headache. We also noticed condensation leaking from the AC, broken furniture, cracks in the walls, etc. Now the best part was probably the beautiful beachfront location, large pool facility and getting to see the oceanfront view. *FOOD* If you want to eat dinner at the themed restaurants (Hibachi, Italian, Steakhouse, Seafood), you have to reserve a time slot on their app. The app was quite glitchy. The food had its moments, but overall, it felt like the chefs were playing a game of culinary roulette. Some dishes were good enough to make me hopeful, while others made me question every life choice that led me to that buffet tray. I would say the best spot was the pizzeria, it was fresh, though pies were gone in seconds once they came out from the oven. *SERVICE* Upon instantly checking in, you feel like you are herded like cattle by being passed onto their concierge that tries to sneak in a timeshare presentation. That said, service at this hotel felt more reactive than proactive. Overall, for a 5-star hotel, it certainly felt a lot lower than that. If you're looking for a clean stay with 5-star service, I'd probably look elsewhere.

WOW This is our…read morefirst resort in Cancun and I don't think we will ever choose another one. FOOD Wow. We did our homework before our trip and saw Zilara Cancun had good/decent reviews about their food. Let me tell you, this is probably the best food I've had in a long long time. Top dishes for me are the octopus with mole and lobster tostada from Maria Marie. If you like/can eat seafood, trust me on this. The drinks are phenomenal as well. There are signature drinks at all the restaurants. Those are mostly hits but some are misses (depends on your taste buds) PRO TIP: sign up for alcohol tastings at The Den first day you get there. We did tequila and wine tasting. It was quite a unique experience. SERVICE I've never gotten treated like this in any hotel I've been at. Chef's kiss for sure. The bellhop/front desk usually can break your 20s/100s into 1s so don't feel the need to exchange pesos (unless you want to of course). The workers at the hotel (and around Cancun overall) takes USD PRO TIP: there are a lot of activities hosted by the hotel. Morning exercise classes are really fun and the night shows are just okay. The crowd is definitely on the older side that just want to come to Cancun and chill not party. From hearing the reviews, Zilara had the most amount of activities from various first hand reviews from our friends All in all, solid resort. You won't regret it!

I wish they would have advertised/told us the buffet had different theme dinners. They were our favorite for dinner. There were good dishes at each, but nothing phenomenal. I really liked the lunches they had set up by the pool. It was overall good and on par with my expectations for an all inclusive. BEACH- this is honestly one of the highlights. The resort had one of the best beaches and ability to get in the ocean. If you want to get in the ocean, this is the spot. SERVICE - this was the most disappointing. At Excellence you cannot breathe without someone asking if you need something. It took a long time for people to check on us and we tip well. Day 4 we finally found Humberto who was THE BEST! Find him and tip him well. ROOMS- they were good and I was happy with them! POOLS- the pools were fine. A little shaded. The most annoying part was the cabana situation. Some are free, some are always paid, and some are paid on certain days. I get up at like 6AM every day anyways so I got good cabanas but if you're not an early riser you're screwed. Overall, I'd return!!

The service is excellent. The rooms are OK but there's some bumps in the road. We went to the Italian restaurant, Capella, and because we had the reserve option. We also tried. Both of these restaurants were excellent. The bartenders outside were excellent Raymundo by aqua was wonderful. The bartenders at the adult side pool were also great. The service by the pools is lackluster in the general areas. In the past, we used to be able to order snacks and they would be delivered to us in the general area but now that option is only available at the reserve.
