The Roxy is the absolute worst bar/club. The bouncers are so rude and sexist. They cornered me outside and would not let me go inside so I could get my friends to leave with them. I asked them multiple times and they refused to let me back in to retrieve my friends. They would not let me leave the corner for 20 minutes because, big surprise, they could not locate my friends without my help. I was crying and none of them tried to console me, they just kept me in the corner. On top of the bouncers rudeness and meanness, the bartenders were also extremely rude. They barley acknowledged my friends and I when we ordered drinks and had a terrible attitude all night. One of the bartenders literally told my friend she was in a bad mood. Go to "Be at Bar" or "Inferno," or literally any other place. This bar/club also requires cash which is just absurd. read more

Studied abroad and went here countless times on Thursday nights (and other ones, too). One of the few bars that is 1) cheap 2) has easy access and 3) provides plenty of space for dancing. The crowd is generally young, and typically full of students. Wouldn't recommend this place for a special night out, but it gets the job done when you need it. Long Island Ice Tea pitchers are 9 pounds sometimes, and that is a plus. read more

I have had some awesome nights out here, possibly not because of the Roxy itself, mullet wigs and Norwegians were involved, which in my experience frequently results in the most pounding hangover imaginable. I digress. The Roxy door staff are less than gracious, and were not impressed by my university's lame excuse for a student ID. Apparently it has to be a proper NUS, so bad luck anyone at the University of Obscurity. I suppose they see 14 year olds trying it on all the time with fake ID, so I suppose I should not blame them. If you are a fan of students' unions but are over 25, then this may be the place for you. I would however suggest you turn up in a large enough group that it doesn't make you feel ridiculously old. I started frequenting The Roxy at my first year Uni and still head back there now when a good night out is needed, although I do tend to feel a tad old to be there which is worrying considering I am only 22! The Roxy is open every night but in my personal opinion Thursday is the best night to go. Gettingt here too early could risk some ackward shuffling while the places fills up whereas getting there to late guarentees queing in the cold. Aim for around 10 and the que shouldn't be to bad. The club is on a side road off Tottenham Court Road and once in, you make your way downstairs to a small bar. There is only one room and the dancefloor is small but it seems to work, generally everyones having such a good time they don't mind being crampt or enduring the enevitable que at the bar. The drinks are averagly priced, the saem as every other bar in Central, expect to pay around £6 for a cocktail. Although they do have Happy Hour, always a bonus. They ask for an entrance fee on the door which varies from £3 - £10 depending on time and night but do offer NUS on entrance fee. The music is indie and light rock with the occasional cheesy anthem thrown in. Its not the coolest place in London but with a good group of friends it makes a realy fun night. read more

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. They didn't follow along with their flyer. At the time it was supposed to be different music playing at different levels, and they were only using one level. I really purchased my tickets and went for the music that was supposed to be playing in the floor that wasn't utilized. Thursdays are now a really fun pop, 80s, bit o this bit o that night. im biased: Im one of the DJs. but i do the opening spot and then just stay and dance the rest of the night. the other DJs are That Perfect Fumble (of Bloody Awful Poetry) who does Soundtracks at The Monarch in Camden on Saturdays(which is a blast) and Sean who has his hands in Feeling Gloomy at the O2 Academy Islington on Saturdays. its an interesting mix of people also. theres a bit of t he Student crowd that the Roxy is known for, but also a good amount of 20 something professionals who know they can be hung over and exhusted on a friday at work. come down and say hello. im generally dancing. read more

So for my 21st birthday 25 magical creatures came out to party... The journey to Roxy was possibly one of the funniest, with fairy wings, wizard hats, elf ears and more scatter amongst the commuters. We choose this club because it was cheese music all night and when you have a gaggle of creative students all shouting about what kind of music they want to dance to there is just nothing that's going to satisfy them all - well apart from a liter of Glens vodka and Backstreet Boys. So off we went to this club and it was fantastic. Slow bar service but not too expensive, great music, no so large you lose all your friends when drunk! Actually I have been back a few times now, each time it's been for a birthday boogie with a group of friends. Don't expect glamour, or anything too amazing. Just a great night out with your friends. Oh and if you see a Christmas Elf fighting a Wizard outside, it's all about the flower fairy that they both fancy. read more

As a 19 year old college student, I will never spend my money here again. I would highly recommend against this club. The staff was rude, the drinks were terrible and the music was honestly not good enough. If you're looking to have a good time and dance, then adventure away from this building. First off, a group of my friends studying abroad with me decided to go out to celebrate our best friends birthday. I stood in line at 11am 85% sober and showed the bouncer my ID. I held it in front of him so that he could easily access it to inspect it further. He then demanded to see my ID. I didn't really understand what he was asking since I was holding my ID directly in front of him. It was when I rotated my ID that he finally took it from me and inspected it. The beginning of feeling disrespected. My friends had told me about the clubs student discount, where students only pay £5 after 11 (I even checked online and asked the bouncer if my international student ID would work and he said they take all kinds). So when I went to pay after showing my license, I was charged £7 while I was holding up my student ID. None the less I was very upset. I went downstairs and bought drinks at the bar. Over priced and disgusting are the two words I would use to describe their drinks. My Long Island iced tea tasted like pure tequila and my gin and tonic was more tonic than gin.. Overall terrible quality. During my time there, one of the staff me members was going around mopping the dance floor. He came over to me and pushed me to the side and told me to move (more than once) with his wet fingers. Not only did he leave streaks of water down my arm but he continued to push me into my boyfriend and my other friends while we were trying to celebrate and have fun. I love to dance, but I couldn't even enjoy myself because the cleanup staff couldn't wait to do their job. Lastly, as I was leaving the club with my boyfriend, the same bouncer who checked my ID asked if we were leaving the club. I responded to him with "Yes we are" and he then answered "Then go. Move! Quickly." And shuffled us out the bar, like we were unwanted and he just could not wait to throw us out. Overall this is the worst possible place to go out to have fun. Why spend your money at a place where they don't respect you and treat you rudely? As a college student, I think this was the worst bar/club I have ever been to. I would highly recommend going elsewhere. O'Neill's is by far a million times better than Roxy will ever be. read more

I was staying in London over the summer of 2011 and while I had no shortage of pubs to frequent (even one my friend referred to as the "proper old man pub") my girl friends and I were in dire need of a place to dance... inexpensively... any night of the week. That is where the Roxy steps up to the plate! Sure, it doesn't have the fanciest lounge... sure, it's underground and you may not have cell phone service... sure, the lack of windows adds to an increased amount of humidity that may be uncomfortable if you're dancing like a raging lunatic all night (as I was on many occasion)... BUT don't let that deter you. The bouncers were really friendly, remembering my friend and I and letting us in promptly and free-ly ;) ... they have cocktail pitchers (I'd never heard of this before!) but if you're looking to get wasted on a budget--BOOM!... they have a varied crowd young, old, hipsters, suits, mod, what-have-you, not too much of any one scene so that you feel out of place... and the music varies so much that everyone gets a bit of what they like. All in all, it's a good place to party on a budget! Next time I'm in town I'll definitely be sure to make a stopover! read more

I went on a Tuesday, it was fun but I think I'm edging out the the demographic. It seemed to attract 16-18 year-olds. That being said, the music on Tuesday is great. The Roxy is not the type of place you can bring a ton of people and get free cover. That seems to be a trend with most places if you have a good guy/girl ratio and have a good pack; but The Roxy doesn't work like that. Letting people through in pairs, this club first checks IDs and lets you through, then greets you with a cashier who collects 4 pounds cover. Not a bad fee, but there is no way around it. A few in my group left after being faced with the cover! Inside, the ground is inexplicably completely covered with shards of glass. I know that sounds ridiculous, but it is as if 1000 people dropped their pint glasses and they just shattered everywhere. It's extremely dangerous as there are a ton of people dancing everywhere. It's a large place but seemingly every square inch is wet and bumpy with glass pieces. This place attracts a young crowd (18-21), but had plenty of older folks as well. Seemed like a good range and people conducted themselves okay. One of my friends got absolutely clocked in the face by a drunk girl who sort of fell into his face with her fist. It was insane and out of no where. The bathroom here is embarrassingly small for a place this big. I remember only one stall and two urinals with 11 guys crowded around in there waiting to use them. Its overall square footage is like the size of a single-person bathroom but with squeezed-in urinals. The DJ here has a habit of cutting away from songs at their peak, something I absolutely don't understand. Just as everybody is getting into it he'll change it or blend it into another. His mixing skills are frankly sub-par and he did a poor job of transitioning. At one point he screwed up and it was silent for a few minutes; people started yelling. Overall The Roxy is a pretty big downgrade from some of the places around Oxford/Piccadilly Circus area. Even on a Wednesday night it had a long-ish wait to get in so this might be a place to pass over. That is unless you like shards of glass (some people are into that). read more

This was the first club we went to on our first night in London. We basically found it because we got lost going to the club we actually wanted to go to, someone handed us a flyer and we said why not? It was sort of a bizarre night with the type of music that was playing and we had no idea any of the songs that they were playing at all. It was really empty when we first got there for at least the first hour and then it picked up afterwards and did get pretty fun. We had fun despite not knowing a single song they played all night long. They had pretty good drink specials too as we all got huge pitchers of Long Island Ice Tea's which were pretty strong and pretty delicious and well made for the price. Slightly strange ratio of dance floor to the rest of the space but people were dancing all over anyway. Was here on a monday night and it didn't really get poppin until about 12:00 that night. I felt a bit awkward because I think I was one of the older people there, lots of students cause a college is close by or something, but they didn't seem to care so I got over it quickly. Gosh, this place has changed a bit. My previous visit was more than a decade ago and I mainly remember my friend being distraught after discovering her bag and passport had been nicked. Fast forward to 2016 and I barely recognise the place. No more sticky floors and general grottiness. It's slick and modern. Happy hour is fantastic value. The music gets gradually louder and dancing ensues. Prices are decent considering how central the bar is. For pre-drinks that spill into dancing, it's a perfect choice. read more

The Roxy, in its previous incarnation as The Office, was my beloved student haunt and we still return occasionally out of nostalgia, but tend to leave feeling woefully old. We used to go every Tuesday for "Panic", an indie/electro night but nowadays I would always choose Teenage Kicks, which has guitar hits from the 50s through to the present. last time I was at Panic, we all felt so out of touch with all the fresh-faced first years throwing stroppy poses on the dance floor, that I don't think I'll ever return. At least on a Wednesday, people are more game for a laugh, although if over 21 you will feel old! This said, The Roxy is a great little venue, it's small and intimate but there's plenty of space to dance and room to sit down too. The drinks offers, especially 2-4-1 jugs of cocktails are amazing, and sometimes they give out pick-and-mix on your way in. The door staff are rude, you'll definitely need ID no matter what you're age, and you'll more than likely have to queue, but if you're looking for a good dance and you're under 21 then it's an excellent option - if you are over that threshold and don't have nostalgic reasons for entering then perhaps you're best of elsewhere. read more

It has been said by many that if you surround yourself by the correct people the most boring event can be turned into a carnival of fun. The Roxy, located on Rathbone Place between Oxfrod st and Goodge st this little underground venue is only a 2 minute walk from "Tottenham Court Road Station". Roxy boasts a fantastic bar with a great range of drinks and a list of colourful cocktails so definately not a dive of a venue, however you find yourself at quite an expensive bar. Its major trade nevertheless seem to bother thosewho have been in the club scene for a while, surrounded by annoying little kids who I'm sure are in the process of learning how NOT to drink, you'd possibly also be bothered by their rather hillarious dancing skills, now of course depending on the night you go, the music genre differs, but the DJ's tend to mix and match music types that don't compliment each other. I guess one could only say after you've had a few and or a few too many and in the company of the chosen few, any place is great... The roxy is just not a place worth visiting over and over, after the first few times you'll give up hope on it ever being a place you can enjoy sober, just for the music and atmosphere. One star would be too harsh because it's still a place for the young and restless to get drunk and enjoy themselves however once past that stage it's really not a venue for the experienced...... This is one of my favourite clubs as you can have a dance, but also a conversation. The queues can get quite long, so if you're planning a birthday night out you might want to phone in advance for the guestlist. If you want to go to any particular club night (almost all of them are very indie biased), most have a guestlist you can sign up to for cheap entry. For instance, my favourite night there, on a Tuesday is between £3 and £5 entry, but guestlist is £1. They usually have drink offers on beer, with 2 bottles for £3. DJs will take requests, as long as the song is in league with their own personal taste. read more

As a first year student the Roxy became something of an addiction; we would go at least once a week, though generally trying to avoid Wednesday Uni Sports night. I went back a couple of times during second and third year, but by then it had very much lost its appeal. Not that the club itself had changed. It is a decent enough club, quite small, large bar selection with a generic indie r'n'b soundtrack. However, given the number of great clubs in London The Roxy isn't really good enough on its own merits to warrant a visit. Rather, go if you're a fresher (but only during the week), or are keen to relive your student days. read more

Bizarreee night. I wasn't sure what to expect when I entered The Roxy Bar. By the time I got there, I was annoyed with my friends for not wanting to go to Cargo or Plastic People because they thought it was expensive, but were willing to pay 7pounds to Roxy. I can see how this place will be great fun with its cheesy, drunk bar music, but the drinks are rather expensive and there was glass everywhere. By the time I exited the place I was scraping my foot every step of the way to get rid of gum and glass. Not exactly a night making experience! That being said, it's a place for your close friends. If you're ready for cheesy music, artsy students and dancing within your group with the occasionally stranger fisting pumping through, it's Roxy. Well it's not entirely bad. I loved the random moments when some Brit boys came up to me and did a little swing dance moves. Shuffling of the feet and hip twisting! Ballroom dancing might've been fun in this bar. After all the DJ seemed to like... well anything! They played Michael Jackson's Billie Jean to 3OH3!'s Don't trust a Hoe to Don't Stop Me Now by Queen. read more

I'm torn with this place. I should hate it. It's cliched, tacky and not really that cool. Unfortunately, sometimes that adds up to being a whole lot of fun. Especially if you're on a hen night. This wasn't one of those scary L plate hen nights (nothing in the world will get me on one of those), but there was dressing up involved. And glitter. Lots of glitter. The bar is cheesy, but it's indie so somehow it's OK. Can't actually remember how much we paid but I think it was about a fiver. You'll be able to find someone milling about handing out flyers so grab some of those. The cocktails we very hit and miss. The ginger mojito was yummy, but the apple cosmo was one of the worst cocktails I've ever tried. The service was pretty hit and miss too now I think back. If you're pissed, and feeling silly, you'll have fun here. But don't expect to be wowed. This place isn't brilliant, but now Metro has shut down, it's not the worst option in the area. read more

I have to say, I loved the music at The Roxy. There were some real old school classics that you'd normally be embarrassed to sing along too, but when everyone else is singing their heart out you don't have to worry! The place has a big downfall though - I for one don't approve of bouncers and bar managers throwing their weight around. Small people on a big ego trip can ruin the fun for everyone. After a big burly bouncer threatened to throw my friends out for the silliest of reasons I resigned myself to the fact that I will never return to The Roxy. It's a pity, but it's the principle of the matter! O and there's one other problem - this bustling club has a men's toilet that is smaller than your local MacDonalds'. I've had some of the best nights of my life in The Roxy! You can forgive the teeny tiny toilets because the vibe here is fantastic. The drinks are pretty cheap comparred with other clubs in the area, though the bar is usually packed so I'd advise buying a couple of drinks at a time. Worst place I've ever been. The music wasn't very good, which I could have dealt with if the service hadn't been so terrible. When one of my friends got sick after hitting her head, they didn't even stop to see if she was okay they just kicked her out. They said they were going to get her water, but never did. They were also mopping the floor while we were dancing, literally sticking the mop in between peoples legs (which is weird enough as it is), but my other friend slipped on the water from the mop and dislocated her knee. Then instead of getting her help and making sure she was okay they kicked her out too. I get they can't have sloppy people in their club, but it was kind of their fault and didn't even try to make sure we were okay. Overall, before we even had these incidences, they were quite rude. It all made for an awful experience. I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

OK. The Roxy, thought I loved it at first - until I went a second time. This was one of the worst experience I have had in my entire life. I was verbally accosted by the security who proceeded to be inappropriate to my friends and I. Then, when walking from the ladies washroom I slipped and fell near the dance floor. A security guard/bouncer was standing there watching, did not care, it turns out I slipped in vomit. YES, VOMIT. No one cared and my knees have been damaged from the fall ever since.
