But we eventually grabbed a spot. Walking in the front door and to the right is a beautiful bar. That is where the continental breakfast is served. The breakfast included bagels, fruit, coffee tea etc. The bar does not serve any alcohol; however there are many bars you can walk to if you want. The ladies at the front desk are very very accommodating. We were assisted by Jessica and Monica and both were very helpful. We loved our rooms overlooking the harbor. The balcony had two chairs and a small end table. Very nice. The rooms were inviting, spacious and clean. There were different pictures on the wall, dried flower arrangements and a gorgeous marble table with two chairs around it. The rooms also had a nice leather chair in each one. I felt the beds were comfortable and it had four comfy pillows per bed, along with some decorative pillows. The bathroom was large with a big sink and counter space. The showers were huge. They had several different sprays on the shower walls, which could be turned on. The bathrooms were nice and clean and the towels were huge. The kids loved the pool. It's not too big but it was ok. There are tables and chairs around the pool as well as umbrellas and lounge chairs. All in all, we loved the hotel and are considering another stay next summer. Seven is the perfect little oasis for a team retreat, special event, or romantic getaway. The team is really friendly and accommodating. From the moment you arrive at the property you feel you're on vacation. It's near several activities including the beach and golf range. Romantic, Quiet, Kid-friendly, About the Rooms & Spaces: The rooms are SO lovely. Each room has a single queen or king but the little side sofa converts to a twin bed, which was perfect. Rooms are best for 2-3 people (e.g., a couple, two friends, or parents and one child). Larger parties should book two of the lovely rooms. We had a terrific little veranda space overlooking the property, which was fabulous at sunrise or sunset. The bathrooms look like they were freshly redesigned. VERY luxurious and accessible for older guests as well as younger guests in terms of entering and exiting shower. The kitchen is equipped with state-of-the-art accessories with the bespoke touch of little classical touches like the silver tea set, carafes, etc. to transport you to the "classic Hamptons" of my youth. The shared spaces were chic and multipurpose to allow everyone to find their favorite sitting spot. The pool area was amazing and the focal point of this trip for most of our stay. Quiet and peaceful overall even though we shared the space with two large groups and two couples. Our group came over for a three-day (two night) retreat. We also enjoyed the little library, furnished with leisurely reading about the region, art, healthy lifestyle, etc. and the unique backgammon board, which we took advantage of after a very long active day of exploring! Safety: Everyone in the area is familiar with Seven and vice versa. It's like being welcome to a little professional family, which is a nice change from the busy city. Very calm, safe environment. Miss Peaches (the adorable pet) pops around every morning to take a lap and greet everyone in the morning as the team sets up for breakfast and luxurious lounging around the pool. Distance from B&B to Activities: Roughly 90% of the recommended activities are within walking distance (if you're like me and enjoy walking). Bikes and taxi services are also available for those who don't feel like walking. Great Value: Considering the location and average cost of a classic Hamptons vacation, coupled with the inclusion of amenities like the enormous continental breakfast, bikes, gym, heated pool, the luxurious rooms and shared spaces, etc., Seven offers a really remarkable value. A family member has a medical condition that requires a specific type of mattress, so I called to ask a simple question about what kind of mattresses they offer. I was connected with a woman named Beth, who was shockingly rude and unprofessional. When I began explaining the situation, she literally said, "I don't have time for this," and then followed it with, "Are you making a reservation or not?" I was stunned. We were ready to spend a week here, but after being treated like an inconvenience for asking a basic, medically necessary question, there's no way I'd trust our family vacation to this place. I'm genuinely at a loss for words at how poorly I was treated. Also, I might like to add it takes a lot for me to leave a negative review. I think I've only ever left one other negative review on my account. Trying to support small local business has always been a priority of mine and I understand people have good days and bad days so I don't usually take two social media to post a negative review but this was over the top nasty. I felt I needed to do so. Not to mention, I took a screenshot. The phone call was only one minute, so the fact that she became so nasty and saying she shouldn't have time for this I'm flabbergasted.

Please save your money and stay somewhere else as this place needs to be shut down and refurbished ASAP. There here are many other great options to stay on Shelter Island.

Our most recent visit was so memorable that I had to write a review and tell my fellow yelpers about this little gem. The Beaver Dam Creek House is not your typical snooty tooty bed and breakfast. Upon entering the door you are greeted by Summer, the friendly Golden Retreiver and official welcoming committee. She happily wags her tail and is thrilled to have new guests come and stay at the house. Jeanne, the owner is very friendly, mellow and full of great information about nearby restaurants, the best shopping, and where to go for great bargains. The home is tastefully beach themed and filled with all sorts of antique touches. Each room is unique and has a different feel. There are beautiful mirrors, refurbished and antique furniture, seashells, old wood paneling, gorgeous wall paper and crown molding. The home is also filled with all of the modern necessities like TV, cable, internet, dvd's, books, boardgames, magazines, and a jacuzzi. Everything is very clean and you get fresh sheets and towels on a regular basis. Our family has quite a few food allergies and Jeanne was extremely understanding and accommodating; Each morning we awoke to asparagus quiche, scrambled eggs, sausage, hot coffee with dairy and non-dairy creamer, orange juice, bagels with cream cheese and fresh fruit. She also kept fresh fruits, vegetables, pita chips and hummus for us, knowing that we were California health nuts. I've stayed at bed and breakfasts before but I've never experienced the kindness, hospitality and sense of "home" that Jeanne creates at Beaver Dam Creek House. Our family absolutely loved our stay and we plan to go back every other year to celebrate Thanksgiving at our favorite spot. It's perfect for laid back families like ours who enjoy the freedom of a less structured bed and breakfast with a home away from home feel.

So even though I was far from my home waters in California I was able to get on the water and see ducks and a great blue heron...very nice perk. This was our 2nd year returning and wow has the place has gone downhill. Our room was dirty upon…read morearrival, sticky floors that quickly turned the bottoms of my feet black and my childrens socks. I always bring cleaning supplies/Clorox wipes along and I wiped down all areas the best that I could, but its not like I travel with a mop. I couldn't exactly clean the floors. The bathroom cleanup I did turned my wipes brown, when was the last time this room was actually cleaned? TV in the room was breaking, which management was aware of. FYI its not hard to replace a cheap tv with a new tv, not sure if management has ever heard of a site called Amazon, they sell tvs and cleaning supplies , just saying. On top of it there was a large group who took over the communal spaces , with lots of small children who they were too busy drinking to parent. The tiny bathtub sized "resort" pool was overtaken by the unsupervised children with giant floats. By a miracle these kids survived their pool takeover, it takes a moment for a child to drown. On top of it these people were slobs leaving garbage, toys, fishing poles, crab traps all over. We mentioned it to the woman working who did nothing about any of it. We left the resort and spent most of the time at the beach to avoid drama and stress , we made the best of it because we couldn't find another hotel with availability to pack up and leave to go to. Overall the place is dirty, obviously mismanaged or management is in over their heads who can know, and there are many other much cleaner places in the area to stay for the prices they are charging. Overall a shame and disappointing.
