I can not believe the lack of treatment and lack of care shown in this hospital' I brought my daughter in as an emergency at 3 o'c in the morning last night from our home which was 2 hours away. When we got there a nurse first gave out to her for not taking a pain killer , even though she was told my daughter had continuous vomiting and was in a lot of pain We explained .She had a miscarriage 2 weeks ago She was in a lot of pain and getting sick She said nothing and asked us to wait on a doctor. Eventually a lady doctor appeared into the room. She asked us why we were in the hospital We again explained about the miscarriage and the way my daughter was suffering We also told her we had phoned on a couple of occasions prior to coming to the hospital and we had been told to come into the emergency rooms. In the Rotunda There is nothing I can do. She basically told us to leave the hospital My daughter was sobbing with pain I asked her to do a scan to see if she had a cyst or something causing all this pain She looked at my daughter with distaste and basically refused. At that point I told her I worked in Journalism and was about to contact a superior medical staff member in the hospital. At this stage she turned on the ultrasound machine and proceeded to examine my daughter's stomach . She never took any details or bloods or temperature. She never asked who her doctor was. No details at all. My daughter had excruciating pain She knew how bad my daughter was suffering but still said she could do nothing. I phoned a taxi and brought my daughter home. She is now an inpatient in the Combe hospital getting full attention from a great team of staff who has shown empathy concern and care to her. We don't have answers on what is wrong yet, but no stone is left unturned. Shame on the Rotunda Hospital for not providing proper medical staff I phoned the hospital emergency rooms 3 times No answer eventually I got reception and they put me through to a nurse who told me to bring her to the hospital It seems they were more interested in who told us to come into the hospital rather then my daughters health . Thankfully Enid Blighton seems to be out of fashion now, not because the books are unsuitable for children or badly written but because of the Famous Five and in particular the character 'Uncle Quentin'. Why this seemingly insane problem with a perfectly harmless fictional character? Because friends, I have just become Uncle Quentin, me, the real thing!, As of 2.35 Sunday morning I have a new niece - Roisin, she is tremendous! We went to visit a proud mom and dad later on Sunday afternoon and were astonished at the level of security measures in the Hospital, no more than 2 visitors at a time and strictly enforced. Don't bother to try to get them to bend the rules, it wont happen. The hospital is clean and modern and has a relaxed atmosphere... so long as visitors and patients behave themselves, there is a feeling of strictness about the place which rather leads One to believe that if you put a foot out of place it would be gently but efficiently.... er ...removed. The hosiptal used to be totally dependent on fundraising so the design of the building was to aid that cause. There was the actual hospital and the social rooms, that is the Rotunda. First visit to Rotunda hospital. Hard to evaluate correctly, but this is not an evaluation, this is yelpview, right? :) My review wants to be very positive. As primary "client" of this institution was my missus, keep this in mind, as my experience is lesser than actual patients would have. Hospital is very clean and reasonably quiet. Not as mush seats in waiting area as would be needed. Some people would end up standing. Despite this, staff was extremely friendly, except one instance where had the scan taken. I went in there as well. The doctor obviously was rushing out to do her thing as there're more patients waiting behind, but when I tried to as few questions several times I was ignored and interrupted by doctor bringing up something else to my wife. That was awkward. Maybe she didn't like me being there? Everything else was very smooth. At one stage during taking blood test samples and etc. nurse offered to take a quick tea break as there'd be a bit of a time span until next procedure/test. Here come warm words for cafeteria. Nice little area for decent snack. They had Subway style section. Options for pizzas, muffins, soup etc.. Some teddy bears in blue and pink :) I loved two entrances. Security guard informed me about near by car park (forgot name) that let's you to park all day for only €6! I spent like €7 only for 3-4 hours on street parking! Hospital has there own car parks, but during Monday to Friday they're dedicated mostly to staff and I was told I could park there after 17:30. Weekends have different times. This is pretty much it. Navigating a new health care system for us Americans was an interesting experience. My GP recommended this place because we live on the North Side. I am glad she did so because this is where we met the wonderful obgyn Dr Michael Geary. His office was super friendly and quickly arranged an appointment for us. He is super assuring for us first time parents, and it was at his office we found we are having twins! If you are looking for an obgyn I would definitely go with him. read more

I just went for a guided tour of the Rotunda Hospital Chapel and the guided tour was very good and interesting and I liked the history behind it, but as the Architectural Historian told us, the placement of the building is not great looking into the sides of ordinary brick-house buildings. The exterior is strange looking and not my favorite but the chapel inside reveals some interesting history, where a protestant tries to make a chapel within protestant standards but he hires Catholics to do the job, which reveals a lot of different references to both Protestantism and Catholicism. The added colors from the 1920's is not my favorite thing in the chapel but the way the sculptures has been made and the controversial references. If you ever get the chance to attend a guided tour go do it. You also learn some interesting Irish history. read more

Had my beautiful daughter here 2years ago. The pregnancy care was amazing. I chose a c.section and it was the most overwhelming experience ever. The surgeons were so friendly throughout and the aftercare in the hospital was a of a standard that made me feel like a queen. Getting broody writing this so shall stop now. read more

This is a maternity hospital and perhaps one of the most striking things about the place is all the pregnant women hanging around at the front door having a smoke. No joke. It is known for this. But I guess that's not the fault of the hospital. They can hardly police what goes on outside the door. It's a good hospital though, with a solid reputation for taking care of its mothers and babies. read more

I was here for 7 weeks on clinical placement as a student and found Rotunda to be quite ok. The building itself is pretty average like any other public hospital, but it's extremely busy and the outpatient departments are always packed to the brim. The outdoor courtyard and the exterior architecture is very nice albeit ancient, and they have a nice private antenatal clinic at the back. In terms of services available, they are very comprehensive in that there are many services on-site; a colposcopy unit, HARI fertility unit which offers IVF, ICSI, IUI etc. and a neonatal/baby care unit in addition to obs/gynae. Most of the doctors here are very good and comprehensive, especially Dr. Cooley and Dr. Mocanu. I was surprised to find that they have a few classes for expectant mothers like yoga, breastfeeding workshops and nutritional classes. The downsides are that some of the staff here can be quite rude and the building is quite old. The area around here isn't exactly the safest either. Also the wait times for public outpatients can be ridiculously long as usual and can get really hot and stuffy. This is more of personal preference, but Rotunda is a teaching hospital so there will be medical students training here from September to June. The other two main maternity hospitals are the Coombe and Holles street and I'd put Rotunda 3rd in line, but that is purely a subjective opinion. read more

My nanny my mother me and my two kids were born there I would not go elsewhere!!! The rotunda is great very friendly clean and really caring, I'm due again soon and i'll be back at the rotunda. read more
