This guy has a bad and negative attitude. We asked to sharpen two knives and he said you cannot jump in front of the line. It takes two minutes and $16 per knife. That's $32 in two minutes. He spent more time arguing with us than job would have taken. Don't recommend this dude. read more

This guy will not be in business for long. Arrived late for his appointment and brought a bad attitude with him. I had about 40 knifes to sharpen. 4 knifes were in use on the line. I ask him if he could start with job and ones he had done some knifes, I would switch out the ones on the line. He gave me a stinky attitude again, saying he can not do that and how I was gonna pay for the service. The discussion got very heated. He declined to sharpen my knifes and start walking away. He used profanity language "words that a business owner shuld never use. Conversation got heated again, and I ask him to leave. More profanity words where called out. I then told him, "you have 2 seconds to leave my place" Chef in the Coachella Valley, don't use this guy for your knife sharpening service. read more

All right, first off it would appear that he is capable of putting a good edge on a knife. But he is incapable of respecting other peoples time. Other people have complained about waiting for him, no courtesy calls, he'll even tell you to meet someplace, and then when you meet him there he'll tell you he doesn't have time to do the work. If you feel like being jerked around and wasting your day for nothing this is the guy for you. However if you bring your knives to him patiently wait while he does them if he can arrange to have time. It seems like he can do a good job. He did a chef knife of mine to a better job than sur la table which uses horrible rough stone grinding . However I don't think it's unreasonable to look for skill and consideration of customers time in the same business, for that reason I'm going to continue to look for someone who can sharpen knives in a professional manner, without overheating the blade, and uses the correct blade angle with a true degree of finish and is capable of respecting peoples time. Be careful he will waste your time. AND MORE THAN ONCE!!! You may have to return to him two or three times before he will get your knives done. If you meet him at one of his locations that you regularly attend, and ask him each time if he can get a knife done before he leaves that location, eventually you will luck out. If that's the way you like to spend your time like some old retired person in a Cadillac, then that's great for you. There is no one I trust more to sharpen my knives than Matt. My Cutco knives are always sharper than when I first bought them. Cutco does offer free sharpening if I mail them in or have a student sharpen them, but they aren't nearly as sharp as when Matt sharpens them plus I either have to pay one way shipping or wait for an appointment. Matt is available at the farmer's markets or at any of the area pickup locations like True Value. The price is so reasonable and the service is excellent. My next set of knives will definitely come from Ronin. I am so grateful for this service! read more

No stars. Called Guy today to sharpen some garden shears. Said he could do it; price was fair. When he learned my home location in La Quinta he said we were too far out but I could meet him at PGA West (6 miles from my home). I showed up on time as directed only to learn he was another 30 or minutes away. No courtesy call saying he was late. He asked me to wait for him. Poor service for a MOBILE service! I had used Ronin's for years. Dropping my knives off at True Value Hardware in Palm Desert because they had a service with Ronin's. The last time I had them sharpened, most of the blades were just as dull as they were when I dropped them off. Some of the blades were partly sharpened and the rest was dull. I called True Value and expressed my dissatisfaction and they were very concerned seemingly, and they would discuss with Ronin. I said I won't be bringing my knives in the future. I located another sharpening service here in the valley and took my knives there. So far, so good. When I dropped them off, I learned that the original owner apparently has hired "help" and that guy doesn't do a good job. I was told they hear complaints about Ronin's a lot. Too bad! Called Guy and within a few hours he's at the house sharpening the knives. I've since bought some of the knives he sells and I cannot believe how great these knives are. Most convenient way to have kitchen knives sharpened. The Ronin Edge comes to your location, gathers whatever needs sharpening and then does the sharpening in his van. He is fast and the end result perfect. Although you may be able to accomplish the same somewhere else I am sure that it won't be as convenient nor at the same price. Plus I understand he is able to sharpen just about any thing that needs sharpening, with the exception of some (not all) serrated knives. He can sharpen "larger scalloped" serrated knives and did one for me. The Ronin Edge is the fastest, most convenient, least expensive way to have your kitchen knives sharpened. The Ronin Edge (the combined Ronin Sharpening and Ronin Blades) in general has to have been my best experience with a truly custom created cutlery service. Even though I live almost an entire country away, being in Kansas, the bladesmith/owner Guy Mindle spent more than likely an extravagant amount of his time working with me. From a cold call on my part to begin the relationship, to the more than likely ten to fifteen hours of phone calls and text messages (at my own request since I am a working chef, text was easier for me), to creating something uniquely suited for my personal set of knife skills. I have a "funny hand" when it comes to traditional knife skill styles, and I was looking for someone willing to create a knife "just for me". Mr. Mindle not only delivered, but exceeded all expectations. I currently own and use only two kinds of knives, the Bob Kramer that I inherited, and my precious Shun Edo set, with the Shun being my tool of choice. However, when I received my "hybrid nakiri" as I have come to call it from Ronin Blades, I was apprehensive at first since it is vastly different not only in weight, but also blade geometery and handle shape. However, from the first cut I could tell that Guy Mindle is not only a fantastic bladesmith, but also an unbelieveable customer service expert. WIth every stroke I could tell that he had considered everything that I had requested and suggested. After around ten days of sixteen hour shifts, the blade is still as sharp as it was when I unboxed with (with proper honing on a Shun honing steel of course) and I am almost twice as fast as I was with my Shun. Even though the knife that I ordered (at a more than reasonable price mind you) was entirely custom designed, I have no doubt in my mind that any and all products from this company will be held to at least the standard that my hybrid nakiri was created at. Thank you Ronin Blades, and thank you Guy Mindle. You have replaced my Shun as my new tool of choice. The Ronin Edge is at the top of my reccomandation list, and I will be ordering again. read more
