This is a day trip from London. We did one of the guided tours with Windsor castle and Stonehenge. It's definitely worth the trip. The amount of history in this was amazing. Be careful when walking around the area since the tiles were from when it was first built. We tried the water from there and it didn't taste too great. Too metallic but something to try. Definitely worth a visit while you are in Bath. It's a wonderful example and tour of the facilities that used to be original Roman bath. The exhibit was very informative of how the people once lived and how they once used the bath. It was also nice to see how it was built and how it functioned the way that it did. It's amazing, the water still flows and is heated from the original source. Too bad the water is contaminated and can't be used. read more

The inside of the structure is currently undergoing some maintenance, so there are scaffolds in certain places unfortunately. However, this does not take away the charm or allure to visit this place! I personally definitely prefer watching the warm spring water rather than drinking it due to the sulfur taste. As a student, you can get discount to this place, and every ticket holder is entitled to a audio tour, which gives you quite an educational experience walking through this Roman bath place. Bath is named so due to its being an ancient Roman bath place outside Rome (in fact, the largest outside Rome). This is quite a cool place to come! read more

Always seen it as a bit of a tourist trap. Very little of it remains as the original Roman side of it, a lot of it redeveloped Georgian. However during the sumer they have late night opening , pack a camera and make the most of the quiet location and sunset read more

The Roman Baths are definitely worth checking out. We spent about an hour walking though the exhibit. It was very educational and I am glad we took the time to go here. After we went walked to lunch at a Greek restaurant called Opa it was fabulous. read more

I love that they provide you with an audio tour included in your admission. Plus, they do free guided tours every hour at the Great Bath. The thing is, I'd really hoped I'd done more research on the place and the area. I do kind of hate audio tours, and the guide I was with was being hogged by two talkative old ladies. The thing I like about the place is that it's not completely restored, nor is everything entirely revealed. I loved that because it really makes you use your imagination. It is an actual archaeological site, so it's really interesting to think that the place was in use so long ago. The Georgian buildings adjacent to the shambolic Roman Baths-- what amazing juxtaposition! The only downside is that it's pretty expensive, but it's *the* thing to do in Bath if you go there for the first time... unless you're not into that kind o' thing. read more

Do yourself a favour and take some time visiting the clever engineering in the form of the Roman baths. Around 15 quid for entry which might seem steep but it's interesting for all ages and there are family tickets which work out cheaper and once you're inside, audio guides are free. You can't actually enter the water (yes they were originally public baths years ago but no longer safe for that purpose!) The natural hot springs are fascinating and yes this attraction draws large crowds but it is well worth the visit. Try to go earlier if possible. read more

If you visit Bath as a tourist and have any interest in history, this is a great place to visit. Make sure you allocate plenty of time, I wandered through in about 2 hours and really didn't feel like I saw everything. What's amazing is how far below the current street level this Roman city is, it really makes you appreciate how much history has happened her and just how long ago it was. There is also more to the ancient Roman city of Bath that hasn't been excavated yet, it feels a little like Pompeii in that respect! There are some disappointments, but they are pretty minor. The statues around the bath on the top level are modern and the audio commentary by Bill Bryson sounds like they recorded it while he was walking through and reading the signs. To be honest, it wasn't interesting to hear him, which is sad since his books are very entertaining. Just listen to the main audio for each exhibit and you'll be great! read more

This is my second visit to the Roman Baths and as expected, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. The architecture is amazing, it really shows the history. Each room shows a little bit of history, which is amazing. It is definitely one of a kind historic building seeping in history. It is the best way to learn the history of Bath in a short time. There is a lot to see here but its not too much that you can get bored. If your contemplating to go in, just go in. Its amazing! read more

One of the best museums I've been to; it's simply fantastic. I only had about an hour to spend there, unfortunately, but I think I could've spent at least two or three wandering around to all the exhibits and listening to the great, free audio guide. It really gives you a sense for what the Baths used to look like and what it felt like to live in Bath during Roman times when the Baths were open. We came here as part of a family vacation and we learned so much! This is really a visit for families with older kids in my opinion. Mine are 12 and 13 and they were really ready to absorb the significance of the history and appreciate all of the excavation and work involved. This place is amazing!! The history behind it is also great - the largest pool was undiscovered until the 18-19th century, which is incredible if you think that the bath itself dates back to about 1st century AD. There are guided tours (for free) I think there are about 5 per day - so check times - and they can walk you through the bath, explain each room's function. They also have a great audio guide. The experience is further enhanced by the actors who are various 'people' from Roman times and you can ask them further questions about what it was like for them. Great experience! DO NOT be convinced to take a day trip to see the town of Bath unless you are a freak for Roman architecture and fear you will never get to visit Rome. This town is about as great as British cuisine. Improbably, I have been there 5 times. Why? Only God knows. read more

The greenish glow of the water is eery and somewhat scary; it makes you wonder what's growing down there. Indeed, signs posted warn that the water is untreated and not safe to drink or even touch... What the heck happened in the past couple hundred years that turned it from a place to self-medicate your own illnesses to a biohazard zone?! Try the free spa water in the Pump Room if you're feeling adventurous. It was foul-smelling enough that I imagined it to taste just the same when I drank it, though my husband claims there was nothing wrong with it (hmm). I gagged, but at least I can say that I did it...! read more

A wonderful walk through time - it is incredible to imagine that a completely different civilization occupied the same ground as the Abbey and the rest of the city hundreds (almost thousands) of years prior. I am very glad that I made this visit. read more

The Roman baths have a tremendous amount of history behind them, and it's truly amazing that they are all still preserved! It's pretty eerie looking into some of the caves where the baths are found and some of the old archaeological statues. They also let you drink some of the (purified) water afterwards, trying it is worth it. read more

These famous baths are well worth a visit to see the hot springs, striking Roman architecture. Walking on the beautiful ancient stone pavements you get a sense of the ancient history of this Temple. You can get food in The Pump Room Restaurant in elegant surroundings & also have the opportunity to 'taste' the waters. read more

One of the world's heritage site, it is one of the best preserved Roman religious spa from the ancient world. It can get very crowded during the weekends. It's also a good history lesson for the children as well. read more

A great museum and heritage centre and a lovely way to spend an afternoon. Learned loads about Roman plumbing and pampering and really enjoyed the experience of wandering around the exhibits. I really like several of the ideas in the museum, particularly the projections on the wall of the circular pool. The recreation actors were also very good; they looked very authentic and were capable of a wry smile as well as a well-turned Latin accent. Would have enjoyed it more had anyone in the vicinity had a cloakroom or luggage storage; had to wrangle a massive backpack all day, which made the whole thing rather less fun than it might have been. Underneath the current market town of Bath stands the remains of an old Roman village. The exhibition uses a personal earpiece guide allowing you to go at your own pace and there are various guides so you can get different perspectives on what you see (e.g. one for kids, one by Bill Bryson, etc.) The hot springs are interesting to see cascading down into the outside pool beneath the normal street level. read more

Recently refurbished, with a hefty bill, a few problems, but beautiful. The Roman Baths has so much history attached to it, you could spend the day there. The tours explain what each of the baths were used for, they take you down under the city of Bath, you can also try the healing waters, that actually taste awful, it's warm and tastes of Sulphur, not a drink you would choose. You definately can not visit bath without visiting the roman baths! It is part of what makes bath well known!! Not sure how much we paid to get in but it wasn't over priced or anything or i would've remembered!! It is a beautiful building with a fantastic history behind it. You get a tape player thing that tells you all about the baths as you walk round. I learnt alot from that tape anyway!! It's amazing once your inside, and when you get to the bath outside at the end, you can just imagine it how it used to be when it was used before being a 'tourist attraction' Definately worth a visit!!! read more
