Just a great place to get a beer. Friendly staff and the best selection of local craft beers around.

The sign, half invitation, half dare: Enter if you're thirsty for something that isn't on the menu of life. Inside, the air is thick with laughter, cheap perfume, and the musk of memory. The wood is old, the stools are crooked, and the light is low enough to make everyone look like the best version of themselves. You can feel the ghosts here -- drifters, dreamers, field hands, maybe even a few saints who took a wrong turn. They all linger in the hum of the jukebox. Ah, the jukebox -- electronic altar of heartbreak. It glows on the wall like an electric confession booth, playing Merle, Patsy, and Johnny for the price of a few credits and a little piece of your heart. Each song unfurls like a slow whiskey burn -- sweet, sad, and just a bit dangerous. For a few minutes, everyone in the room is part of the same melody, the same ache. And behind the bar -- the real magic. The women who run this joint aren't just bartenders; they're high priestesses of the pour, keepers of secrets, and therapists with better lighting. They don't just serve drinks -- they dispense absolution one glass at a time. They smile like they've seen it all and still find the world worth laughing at. Their pours are generous, their eyes sharp, and their patience mythological. The Stag isn't polished, and thank the gods for that. It's honest. It's human. It's the kind of place where time stretches, stories spill, and strangers become drinking buddies before the song ends. When you finally pull the door (real hard) and step into the cool Exeter night, the stars feel closer somehow. You can still hear the jukebox faintly -- one last chorus chasing you into the dark. And you know, deep down, that The Stag isn't just a bar. It's a reminder. A reminder that imperfection is beautiful, whiskey is holy, and that the best kind of truth usually comes from a woman with a towel over her shoulder and a grin that says, "Another round?"

It's a small brown building with a small parking lot next to it. It's nice though that its open at 0630 so that the nightshift hospital staff can come here and decompress or send me off on my last day. First thing you notice about this place is the smell of urine from the bathrooms. You get use to it after a bit. As well as the "regulars" hanging out at the bar area. It's extremely small. Area for a pool table, some tables at the far end by the bathrooms, and a long bar counter. At least the tvs are nice and clear and big to watch games or sports as need be. There was a good 18 of us here. Prices are rediculously cheap. I'm glad they understand it's a dive bar and should thus be dive bar prices. A michelada was $4. A mimosa was $5. Bag of chips was $1. They have these sour candy shots for $4. The sour candy shots were really good. Michelada was simple. Bloody Mary mix with beer. But they were well made. I also had a crown royal apple with redbull that was really good. I don't remember how many drinks we went thru but it did the job and we were all feeling good. Customer service is good. Dude working behind the bar worked fast. I hear this place is pretty good when the sun is up, but has a pretty rough reputation at night with lots of shady people coming in at night. I definitely wouldn't come in here by my self even in the day time. But with a large group it's pretty cool. Nice and cheap. If you don't mind the urine smell and dilapidated look.

If you have kids with you, they're welcome too, which makes it an easy spot for everyone to enjoy. Their beer selection offers something for just about every palate, including seltzers, and they're more than happy to let you sample beers before making a decision. If you can't pick just one, a flight is the way to go. We tried several of their newer brews during our visit. The Citrus Trails Blood Orange Ale was refreshing and perfect for a warm day. It wasn't overly bitter, and I think an orange slice would make it even better. The Stay Golden was another new release that my husband really enjoyed, describing it as smooth, crisp, and refreshing. I also tried I've Seen Better Haze, which was flavorful without the overpowering bitterness that some IPAs have. The Salty Sessions was surprisingly light for an IPA and almost drank like a blonde ale, making it a great option if you're easing into hoppier beers. One thing I really like about Salty Walrus is that they offer more than just great beer. They host a run club, feature a different food truck most days, and even have an annual membership for frequent visitors. The membership includes one free pour every day along with discounts on additional pours and merchandise, making it a great value for regulars. Whether you're stopping in to watch a game, meet up with friends, or simply try some locally crafted beer, Salty Walrus is definitely worth a visit.

I got the Surf Rodeo - a POG seltzer. It was phenomenal! I'm not a big beer drinker, but I was blown away by this one. Delicious! Can't wait to go back.
