I used to go to The Roast House regularly for takeaway roasts on a Sunday afternoon. For $15 they provided good-sized portions of succulent meat (roast chicken, lamb, pork and beef or a combination) with pumpkin, roast potatoes, peas and carrots and covered in delicious gravy.
However, when I went there a week ago, I was was left feeling very underwhelmed by my lot. The meat (I had roast pork) was chewy and bland and both the pumpkin and kumara were undercooked and sludgy. It came as no surprise to learn that it was under new management as the standard I had come to expect just wasn't there. I'm hoping it's just teething problems and that soon The Roast House will be back up to its old standard, but for now, I'll be staying clear.
It's such a shame as the concept of a takeaway roast is so appealing when the Pizza Hut next door just won't quite satisfy my craving for a hearty dinner that I don't have to cook myself. read more
