Overpriced Off-Season Disappointment…read more I don't mind playing golf in the off-season, but if a course is going to charge premium prices, the conditions should at least come close to matching them. Unfortunately, this place falls far short. The fairways were Dormant due to the time of year and the weather here in Georgia has been in the low 40s. What really frustrates me is With the weather conditions in time of year the rates were still sky-high--as if it were peak summer. If I'm paying top dollar, I expect perfect conditions, and in addition, it was cartpath only so it took us five hours for the round of golf. We paid $125 +8% sales tax for a total of $135. For the conditions of the course, the course layout and the time of year this was a total rip off. There are plenty of courses that adjust their prices to reflect the season and still offer a better experience. This one needs to rethink its off-season value, because right now it's nowhere near worth the cost.

As a disclaimer, I've only played Chateau Elan's Woodlands course (twice). The club has another 18-hole course called the Chateau course as well as a par-3 course, both of which I've yet to play. Simply put, I expect more of a golf course that's part of a winery and resort. When it comes to resort courses, which I think should be held to a higher standard, this is one of the "lower end" ones I've been to. The clubhouse, amenities, and course (Woodlands) are no better than higher-end public daily fee courses in the Atlanta area. Just a handful of courses I think are better and more fun to play include Bear's Best (Suwanee), Cherokee Run (Conyers), BridgeMill (Canton), Echelon (Alpharetta), and The Frog (Villa Rica). While the Woodlands course isn't a bad course by any means, I'd probably be just as inclined to play municipal courses in Atlanta like Browns Mill and Chastain Park (courses which are closer to where I live in the city) before making the solid 45-minute to 1-hour trek to Chateau Elan in Braselton. Don't take the main entrance for the winery and resort. The golf club is located a little bit further down the road after you've exited off I-85. It's got a separate entrance (Golf Club Drive). Again, compared to other country clubs and higher-end public courses, Chateau Elan's clubhouse isn't all that impressive. It's relatively small and the men's locker room feels more like a temporary trailer or building add-on/extension. That said, the golf shop is stocked with a decent amount of Chateau Elan logo apparel, golf accessories and equipment, and there's a bar and grill with an enclosed patio. The driving range is spacious with plenty of both grass and mat hitting stations. Range balls come in one size only: a basket of 42 balls for $5. The Range Servant accepts tokens, which can be purchased inside the golf shop, or $1 and $5 bills. When I last used the range, the balls were TaylorMade practice balls. They were fairly nice. I haven't been to too many ranges that use them. The golf carts are E-Z-GO electric carts. They were in good condition last time I played. One thing I do appreciate about Chateau Elan is they provide a pair of towels in every cart. It's nice considering most courses at Chateau Elan's price point ($60-80 weekend/holiday morning rate) don't offer towels. The carts come with a few tees too though they are the short variety. For the past decade-plus, long tees have been the norm, so I'm not sure why they provide short ones. The last round I played, I booked our foursome's tee times directly through Chateau Elan's website. The rates shown on Chateau Elan's website were the same as those shown on GolfNow. However, GolfNow required an additional convenience fee paid upfront whereas no payment was due online when booking through Chateau Elan's site. We were charged $62.43 per golfer ($58.35 greens and cart fee plus $4.08 tax) for our Sunday morning round on the Woodlands course. The guy in the golf shop was friendly. There's a bag drop and cart attendants right in front of the clubhouse. The morning we played, they looked to be mostly teenagers. There was no starter which we found to be odd. Every group pretty much started themselves. Our foursome showed up to the 1st tee, then a twosome, then a single. Even though the twosome and single had tee times after us, we decided to go ahead and let them play through. However, the twosome and single did not pair up. If there was a starter, they probably would have been paired up. The last time I played the Woodlands course with my dad, the starter paired us with another twosome. In the end, the pace of play for our foursome worked out to be roughly 4 hours and 45 minutes. It was a bit longer than we would have liked, but it wasn't terrible either. While there was no starter, nor marshall for that matter, there was a food and beverage cart which we saw 2-3 times during the round. The first time, the cart lady did not have sandwiches. The second time, which took a while, she came with sandwiches in tow. As for the Woodlands course itself, it's fine. After playing a couple rounds on the course, I can honestly say there's nothing about it that really draws me back. It's a fairly standard Georgia par-72 nestled among trees and spread throughout a subdivision. It's not terribly long and perhaps average in difficulty. From the tips: 6,735 yards with a 73.1/135 rating/slope. From the white tees (where we played from): 5,927 yards with a 68.4/126 rating/slope. There's little water to contend with and the landscaping and scenery are average. As far as course conditions, they were good to great. The large greens were in magnificent shape. They were among the fastest greens I've played in metro Atlanta. The quality of the sand in the bunkers was good and the tee boxes and fairways were in satisfactory shape.

I had the absolute worst customer service experience at Lanier Legacy Golf Club, and it was nothing short of humiliating and infuriating. On March 8th, I booked a 3:00 PM tee time for my wife and her sister. Due to heavy rain, I called the pro shop, and a kind and professional male staff member issued an 18-hole rain check, which I appreciated. However, when I called today to use that rain check, I was met with the most unprofessional, rude, and outright hostile treatment from a staff member named Leah Stephenson (spelling may be incorrect). From the moment she picked up the phone, she was aggressive, dismissive, and condescending. She: Constantly interrupted me while I was speaking. Raised her voice at me for absolutely no reason. Refused to listen or assist me properly and instead transferred my call without helping. Treated me with an attitude that felt blatantly discriminatory. It's truly disgusting that a golf course with such a good reputation allows this kind of horrible customer service to take place. I couldn't help but feel that I was treated this way because I am Asian and an international guest. This was my first experience with this level of rudeness and discrimination since moving to Atlanta, and I am still in shock that a business like this allows such behavior to continue unchecked. If Lanier Legacy Golf Club actually cares about its reputation, they need to: Implement serious customer service training so this NEVER happens again. Ensure all guests--regardless of nationality--are treated with basic human decency. I will make sure that everyone I know hears about this disgraceful experience. I will also be reporting this incident to management and any relevant authorities to ensure this club is held accountable for discriminatory and unprofessional practices. Avoid this place if you expect even the bare minimum of respect. If you're not a local, prepare to be treated as if you don't belong.

The quality of the course, staff, practice facility, carts, food is A1. First off, I ain't gonna lie it's expensive! But good news is you do get range balls with your greens fees and unlimited snacks/ soft drinks!!!(my favorite). Yes I said unlimited. I'm sure if you go in there and fill bags up with stuff they might say something but you get it. Second off, driving range and putting green = phenomenal. Third off and most important , the course..... is so beautiful. I'm a serious golfer (4 handicap) so my feelings might be different than others. The actual layout of the course is pretty difficult but the scenery is grand. In order to score great on this course you do have to play smart and have a strategy. I suggest to pay attention to everything before swinging! Keep in mind the greens are FAST. Last suggestion, if you're not the best golfer bring lots of balls because there is a ton of water on this course and get some practice in before hand! If you truly play the course a lot of shots will require you to get the ball in the air. Fourth. Besides the snacks and the absolutely beautiful golf course, I LOVE the way they start you out. Basically most courses just give you the keys to the cart and tell you to get. Here, the first hole is a distance away from the clubhouse so when the starter feels as if the tee box is cleared he will explain the course / rules with your group, give you the keys to the cart, and tell you to get on with it. And I absolutely loveeeeee that. It allows your group to be at the tee box without anyone causing distractions.Love it!!! Last time we were out here the course was quite backed up. The Marshall was constantly trying to get the people in front of us moving and he kept stopping by to apologize to us. The quality of service at Lanier is awesome. They truly make you feel special and that's why I love going back and throwing my money at them. This is by far my favorite course I've ever played at in GA and other states. This is a plea for capital infusion for Smoke Rise Golf Club. I've played Atlanta courses for 40+…read moreyears and remember Smoke Rise from the 2000s as a premier and vibrant course of stone works, beautiful water features and challenging target golf. Now as of April 2025, the golf course is under-capitalized and dying. The condition of all bunkers and greens is atrocious. The bunkers have no sand, their drains are clogged, the concrete liners are all destroyed and full of 2+ feet of water after a recent rain. The fairways have erosion trenches, landslides, the cart paths are clogged with mud and poor drainage issues everywhere. There seems to be misplaced value on toys such as golf carts with "nanny mode" features to keep you on the cart paths and slow over bridges. Presumably because people have maimed themselves on the steep, unmaintained and mossy slick cart paths as well as eroded tee box approaches and bridges that are all neglected and showing rot and cheap patch jobs. Lakes are clogged with silt and ravines are full of kudzu and stop gap concrete chunks strewn about to stop full scale erosion from claiming the bridge approaches. I've played golf on 4 continents and never seen any sort of neglect like this of what was once a great lady of a course. One star is more than the current situation deserves. This is simply a golf tragedy. The positives are the club is keeping up the golf clubhouse and the pool seemed busy. And there are clearly very busy (but clearly understaffed) course crew working to mow what fairways and relatively fast greens (many with large trenches and dead areas) that remain (despite a lot of erosion from over mowing and chemical mis-applications). And there are great bones here of youth golf and membership from the established Smoke Rise community. But be sure, the golf course is dying. The pics attached are only of bunkers. The awful erosion trenches on fairways and most of the tee box and fairway approaches aren't shown.

Not a big fan, but the course conditions in early Sept is OK…read more I was concerned that it was being aerated but GolfNow mentioned nothing, and even the proshop dude said nothing. Well, it was recovering from the aeration. Several holes had fresh sand on it. The holes are just about healed up.. but definitely sandy conditions. Tee box is OK, Fairways is OK, Cart path is OK, Greens are so-so. The second cut is atrocious. It is deep, and completely hides your ball. 2 inches off the fairway and you are screwed. That is the nature of this course. 100% target golf. After my first 9..I left the driver in the bag for good. So many holes either blind or doglegs. You have no idea where to go. Miss the ideal landing spot and you will have no angle. Bu the back 9, I was hitting it to the 150 marker and laying up all the time. Its a tough course and you have to be accurate and manage the course. I finished in 3 hours, so pace was not an issue. It was just not much fun.. you will need patience and a risk averse personality to have fun

I paid $70 to wait for each shot on the tee, and a shot into the green for each hole on the back nine. The fact that I've had the time to write this review DURING my round should give you more than enough info on how slow and poorly managed this place is. The 2 photos I've attached are the two groups waiting to tee off on 16. I'm not quite sure why this place does NOT have rangers/marshalls enforcing pace of play. It's quite frustrating to try to find a good place to play golf in the area, but subject to horrible tee boxes , entire holes that are closed (number 15, a par 5, is completely closed and they turned it into a par 3.. I par it so.. I got an eagle right? ) All in all, don't come here to play golf. I'd say give it a year or two so this club can get their act together. This place is horrible and a waste of my time. I've played some really bad courses in my time .. but this is the top worst I've come across. Brown Mills, Tup, Chastain, all city courses and are wayyyy better for the price and the amount of time spent on the golf course. Again, don't play here. Play somewhere else.

This was my first adventure teeing off outside my home state of Florida. It was simply breaktaking…read more(probably had a tiny bit to do with the weather). From the entrance to the 1st tee was amazing. Didn't think it could get much better, but it did. Got to spend some QT with my brother. We finished alot faster than we had anticipated so we got to enjoy lunch on site. Logan took exceptional care of us. Drinks and food were both on point.
