Love this place. Great range without top golf hype or upcharge. Great wings, beer and pool tables and table tennis inside it is too hot/cold for hitting balls

The official name of this business is now "J Paragon Golf" which is attached to the bigger "J Paragon Sports Center" which offers table tennis and billiards/pool. At some point over the last few years (I want to say 2017, but I could be wrong), this facility changed management so I think technically it's no longer just "Paragon Golf." This is a driving range. It looks like a bare-bones Topgolf because there are three levels you can hit off of. Mats only. There are no grass hitting stations. I estimate there are about (or a little over) 100 hitting bays total between the three levels because the level we hit off of (level 2) had 33-34 bays. The bays are placed rather closely together so the swinging spaces are definitely tighter here compared to most other ranges I've gone to. There's an elevator that will take you between the three levels. Disappointingly, during our visit, level 3 was closed. I wanted to hit off the top deck. All golf lessons are held on level 1. I'm not sure how long this place has been around, but it's definitely showing its age. It's not ancient, but you can tell it's been around for a while. Only half of the Range Servant (range ball dispensing machine) was working, the Srixon range balls were well-worn and used (arguably on their last legs), and several of the hitting bays were missing mirrors (at least they have mirrors, which is nice for checking your setup and alignment). On the bright side, the hitting mats were in good condition. There are chairs and tables behind just about every bay. They're nice if you want to sit down and rest and also have a place to put your drinks, golf accessories, and other stuff. All three levels are covered so you can hit balls rain or shine. The facility is lighted so you can also hit balls at night. There are heat lamps and fans though we couldn't get the fans to work in our section; only the heat lamps seemed to work. The poles and netting at the back of the range measure 250 yards so that's the farthest you'll be able to hit here. They have these "MGD" (Motorless Golfball Dispenser) contraptions you can use which I have never seen before. You load your range balls into one and then step on a pedal/hit a switch and a ball pops out from the dispenser. It's more trouble than it's worth which is why most people don't use them. Here were the driving range rates during our visit (seniors aged 60+): * Small bucket (45 balls) - $6 ($5 senior) * Medium bucket (90 balls) - $9 ($8 senior) * Large bucket (135 ball) - $12 ($10 senior) * Extra large bucket ($180 balls) - $14 ($12 senior) You could also purchase a range card for bulk discounts and monthly memberships. Range card rates: * 20 small buckets for $60 * 30 small buckets for $90 * 40 small buckets for $100 * 80 small buckets for $150 * 115 small buckets for $200 Membership rates: * 1 medium bucket a day for $100 per month * 1 large bucket a day for $120 per month Generally, I think the rates are reasonable. There's a buy one, get one free deal before 12pm. On one of the business' flyers, it says the BOGO deal is valid Monday-Friday only, but we were able to get the deal on a Sunday. On the BOGO deal, there is one caveat: you cannot share your free bucket with another person. So if you go before noon, just purchase a smaller size bucket than you normally would and get the other bucket for free. For example, if you wanted to hit 90 balls, buy a small bucket (45 balls) instead and get another small bucket for free. It'll save you a few bucks. The inside of the facility is actually quite cavernous and spacious. There's a golf shop with apparel, golf bags, and even purses. The front desk also doubles as a small cafe with refreshments. There are various (and perhaps random) Korean products for sale. I believe this place is Korean-owned-and-operated and a lot of the customers are Korean. It feels like you're in Korea when you're here. Inside, there are three golf simulators. There's a sizable practice putting green. It's completely flat like one of those at PGA Tour Superstore. There are two huge areas for table tennis (ping pong) and billiards (pool). The ping pong tables and pool tables looked relatively new and in great condition. The spaces were clean and brightly lit. Table tennis rates were: * $10 per hour for 1 person * $15 per day for 1 person * $15 per hour for 2 people * $20 per hour for 3-4 people * $40 per month for a membership They sell table tennis equipment too. I don't remember if they sell billiards equipment. Service was fine. A Korean lady checked us in. The credit card machine was down so I had to pay with cash. Overall, this is a satisfactory facility. The driving range is adequate. 3.5 stars sounds about right, but I'll bump them up to 4 because there's something "charming" about the place. Maybe it's the elevator music the cashier had playing behind the counter when we checked in. Plus, multiple levels and all-weather and day/night functionality count for something.

We enjoyed driving some golf balls one rainy Sunday afternoon. The facility is nicely maintained, not too crowded, and largely self serve. You can get 145 balls for about $12 and can share between your party and they will let you use a club for free. The golfball dispensers at each stall have been disabled so expect to bend over a lot. Not a huge inconvenience for the exercise and fun. If the weather is too cold, stay inside and hit into a screen simulator or play ping pong on one of their many tables. Something to note: if you are a lefty, bring your own club because they are very limited. And you will need to lift your green up in your stall to place the tee in the right spot.

The go to place when it's raining outside. Cheapest prices in balls in town and the simulator is great. 180 for $14 is the best price you'll find and the staff are always down to help you set up the simulator. The only bad thing about this place is that the practice putting green is indoors and doesn't actually have holes, so you don't get the satisfaction of sinking putts. Also, if you try and book a simulator round, they'll claim that its members only. Just go on golfnow and book it and you'll be fine. The facility itself is located in the entrance of Bangkok boxing and offering ping pong, billiards and the aforementioned golf facilities. Highly recommend if you're rained out and want to hit a few balls

There are 2 semi-private bays which also comes with a small sofa and table. You can fit 3 people comfortably, 4 may be tight. The small private rooms is good for 4 people and large private room is 5+. The open bays are the best for practicing your swing because they have the swing analysis tech that the semi-private and private bays don't have. The only thing you can view in those bays are your swing and ball projection, but the video quality is low and grainy. Getting drinks/beers is easy. You just grab from the fridge and let the front staff know. You pay for everything before you leave at the entrance. Oswald and Accelerazied golf is one of these exceptions. Right before I started coming here for lessons I played my local course to establish a benchmark and shot a 130. Shortly after I signed up for a 4 lesson package which includes 4 one-hour lessons and unlimited hitting on the practice range. After a couple of months and completing my first 4 lesson package, I played the same course and shot a 100. I know still pretty pathetic, but a huge improvement from my 130. While I'm sure if I dedicated the same amount of time without coaching my score would come down, but not 30 strokes in the span of a few months. The great/unique thing about coming here is that you can practice and watch video of yourself. Oswald draws out proper stance, swing lines, posture, etc. during your lessons and then you are able to go hit by yourself and watch what you are doing. I find this very helpful and one of the only ways I think I can actually change my swing. On top of the golf aspect, Oswald is a great coach/guy and never watches the clock during lessons. He seems to really care about his students and their progress. I could not recommend Oswald enough for lessons and can almost guarantee that your golf game will get better after going to him.

Last year, the clinic took place at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth. This year's Tour pro instructor was 2008 Masters champ, Trevor Immelman. The crowd seemed bigger this year. There were three sessions we could sign up for, two in the morning and one in the early afternoon. Complimentary breakfast and lunch were provided, buffet-style, underneath large white tents outside the back of the clubhouse. There were so many people that most of us had to park at an auxiliary lot off-site on Windward Concourse and be shuttled over to the clubhouse. Registration took a bit longer this year since there were more people and since we came in droves to the registration stations. The walking clinic with Trevor Immelman and David Leadbetter took place on the 9th hole, about 100 yards or so out. Immelman walked us through many different aspects of the game from setup and alignment to grip, aim, and strategy. Like just about any Tour pro, all of his shots seemed effortless. He even tried to do some trick approach shots by bouncing them off the stone wall behind the green. This got a good laugh out of the crowd, in addition to Leadbetter's many quips. One example is when Leadbetter chose a random person out of the gallery to show us his swing. After showing us his not-so-good-looking swing and telling Leadbetter he was a 12 handicap, Leadbetter said, "you must be one hell of a putter to be a 12 handicap!" Immelman and Leadbetter then walked us through bunker shots, shots from just off the green, and putting. The entire formal instructional session went well over the allotted 1-hour time frame -- it probably ran 1.5 hours. It was a great and very informative, enlightening, and useful lesson. After presentation was over, we separated into smaller groups and went through a series of 5 "clinics." They were: 1. Driving - with video swing analysis 2. Learning - about the latest Cadillac vehicles (they were on-site) 3. Hybrids - learning about and hitting hybrid irons 4. Putting - putting with various putters including belly putters 5. Chipping - chipping from sidehill lies onto a green All golf clubs and balls were provided by Callaway (drivers, hybrids, wedges) and Odyssey (putters). All the latest model Cadillacs were also available for test drive. The hybrid, putting, and chipping stations were manned by a local golf club pros who provided additional instruction. We all got to take swings, so a lot of personalized advice was provided. Overall, it was another very fun-filled and well-planned day on another great golf course in Georgia. I look forward to attending more Cadillac Innovation Golf Clinics as long as they keep inviting me. Thanks, Trevor Immelman, David Leadbetter, Callaway, Odyssey, Cadillac, and the Golf Club of Georgia.

That is, until I worked with Greg Shellnutt at GreenLifeGolf. Greg had everything I needed in an instructor. For beginners, he is a really nice and well mannered guy. He makes you feel very comfortable, right off the bat, when the session begins. He listens. He understands. He allows you to explain why you're there, where you've come from, what you're hoping to fix, and who you are as a learner. He is encouraging and knows what to compliment and how to address faults in a positive way. I will tell you that my lesson with him was to solely focus on the driver, because I had enough lessons with other instructors on my irons and wedges and didn't feel they needed any additional adjustment at this time. Yet, my driver was slicing too often (I'm sure you know exactly how I feel). He started at the very beginning with me hitting a few balls with my driver so he could have a baseline to work off of, while recording it on video. Then he checked my grip, my stance, my posture, my side bend, my hip rotation, how far off the ball I was, and adjusted those for me before we focused on the main issue. The funny thing is, you don't realize how much the small things in a setup change over time when you stop thinking about them. The fact that he started at the beginning was a huge help to remember that those are important to check from time to time, no matter how long you've been playing. For example, I didn't realize my grip had actually gone more neutral when I thought it was still a really strong grip until he showed me. He also pointed out the difference between "long thumb" and "short thumb" gripping, which I honestly had never heard of before. Then, we finally focused on the one main thing he felt I needed to work on and that was my swing plane. I was swinging over the top (out-to-in club path). I knew I was doing that, but I just needed someone to confirm it for me and help me fix it. I will tell you this much: He had me shallowing out the club and swinging inside to out in three swings! Yes, three swings. After that, I never went over the top again for the rest of the basket of balls I had for the rest of the day. It was like a lightbulb went off in my head and it's all thanks to Greg. His launch monitor was showing me carrying the ball the proper distance with smash factors in the 1.4+ range. I could visibly see the range balls carrying back to 200+ yards. All in all, this was the BEST SESSION I HAVE EVER HAD and would recommend Greg Shellnutt any day of the week to anyone that needs help with their golf lessons.

The PGA Championship returned to Atlanta Athletic Club for the first time in 10 years. As soon as…read moretickets went on sale last year, I purchased immediately. There was no way I was going to miss a major championship in town. The tournament was a blast and I have to give credit to the Atlanta Athletic Club, PGA, the 3,500 volunteers, and everyone else who helped put this massive event together. From a spectator perspective, the tournament was very well organized. Free parking was available at Gwinnett Arena. From there, air-conditioned shuttle buses transported us to the course. There was no wait whatsoever to and from the course as far as the shuttles were concerned. The system seemed seamless. Along the way, there was always someone available to assist if anyone had a question. Located just inside the Atlanta Athletic Club gates were a whole host of enormous tents. Inside, you'd find everything from the golf shop to a Mercedes-Benz showroom to golf instruction bays with PGA Teaching Professionals. The golf shop was massive and inside was a PGA Tour fan's dream. They had for sale golf equipment, attire, t-shirts, hats, etc. in every size, fit, and color you can imagine, as well as all other sorts of golf paraphernalia. I could've easily spent all day there. Two of the tents were the "PGA Fan Experience" and the "PGA Learning Center." Inside the Fan Experience, you could record video and various metrics on your golf swing, take a picture with Jim Furyk, design a golf bag where the best design would actually be created and used by either Furyk, Anthony Kim, or Matt Kuchar at next year's PGA Championship, play games to win one of the many autographed golf bags on display, and more. At the Learning Center, you could register to take lessons and receive golf instruction on-site from a whole host of PGA Teaching Professionals. The golf instruction included video analysis, customized putting tips, and swing lessons. Since you reserve a time slot, you were free to roam the course and come back at your allotted time. Results from the video analyses were recorded and emailed to all participants. And the best part about it all: it was free. My setup and swing was compared side-by-side to Tiger Woods and Stuart Appleby. In the middle of the course, there was a huge air-conditioned tent setup by American Express and Delta. If you are an AmEx or Delta SkyMiles card holder, you could access this tent to relax and take a break. Inside, there were refreshments, cushioned seating and tables, nicer bathrooms, and leaderboards. When players were at the range, they had name tags to help you identify them. I just so happened to walk on the range while Tiger was there. He said hi to last year's champ, Martin Kaymer, and walked off. Tiger was the only player who had security following him around. Both the range and the practice putting green were slammed with players. It was neat to watch everyone warming up and fine-tuning their game. Kaymer brought out his own putting contraption to help his alignment. While the weather was hot, the course was in immaculate shape. The Highlands Course at AAC is a beautiful and hilly course. My friends and I spent most of our time on the back nine. It's amazing how good the players are, from Rory McIlroy hitting to within 10-feet from a fairway bunker on the 457-yard par 4 11th to Anthony Kim going pin high on the 267-yard par 3 15th. As the old Tour tagline went: "These guys are good." Anthony Kim autographed the back of someone's iPhone between the 14th green and 15th tee. At the end of the 18th hole, players would make their way back to the clubhouse. There was an autograph area near the clubhouse and several of the players would take the time to greet fans and sign flags, hats, tickets, etc. I ran into a lot of players this way including Fuyrk, Stewart Cink, Lucas Glover, Webb Simpson, Fredrick Jacobson, Aaron Baddeley, and others. I also spotted John Daly and Greg Norman going to the clubhouse. Players I wanted to see, but missed due to timing included Padraig Harrington, Steve Stricker, Bubba Watson, and Adam Scott. I did see Scott's caddie, Steve Williams (Tiger's former caddie), walking around the clubhouse. Congratulations to Keegan Bradley for winning this year's championship.

And while I'm not really a giant pro-golf fan, I thought this would be a fun way to spend a day outside and check it out. Other than the concessions, this was one class act, all the way through. Parking near the event was limited and very cost prohibitive so they had another option of parking at the Gwinnett Arena and taking a shuttle bus over...for free! I chose to do the shuttle thing and took it to the AAC where there was a long line of people waiting to get inside. Luckily, the line moved fairly quickly and I was soon inside. The nicely air-conditioned PGA shop was really cool with a gigantic variety of hats, shirts, coats, bags, shorts, pants, cups, umbrellas and a thousand other things with the AAC/PGA logos on it. You could probably buy enough items to fill your wardrobe for a year, decorate your house and office with nothing but golf crap, and even dress your kids and pets like little golfers...if that's the sorta' thing you're into. The weather was high 90s with a terribly unforgiving sun. But there was plenty of shade to be had and several misting booths to keep you cool, along with water vendors and concession stands every other hole or so. When the time came to break for lunch, I went to the concessions stand near holes 15/16 and picked up a pulled pork sandwich, a bag of chips and a Gatorade...for $14. Wow. I think the food at Turner Field is less than this...and oh, so much better. I tried eating the pulled-pork sandwich and it had been sitting under the heat lamp for so long that it was like eating a pile of jerky on a bun. Not cool...and so not worth $14. Other than the sub-par lunch, everything else was outstanding. We were able to get really close to the action on any of the holes we wanted to watch. The course has built a lot of space for galleries to spread out and watch without being overly crowded (despite there being a ton of people). We actually go very close enough to several of the pro golfers to be able to hear them talking to their caddies. We also saw several of them signing autographs for the kids and fans, making it a really cool experience.
