Incredible food Amazing service right in the heart of Cherokee! This area looks like it's a beach town and there's all kinds of cute shops. I got the chicken Katsu and it was so flavorful! Stopped here for lunch after staying the night in Cherokee. Definitely a locals place and I can see why - the food is delicious. I ordered the Shoyu Chicken mini plate and it was delicious. The chicken fell off the bone, was well marinated and the rice was coated in the sauce as well. I'm picky about my Hawaiian Mac salad and it was very good. We come to this town occasionally and I'd happily return for lunch!

I would've never expected to find such a wonderful Hawaiian restaurant in Cherokee, NC. The authenticity of the food was truly spectacular. I had the chicken Katsu sandwich with Mac salad and it brought me right back to being in Hawaii. We took friends who had never eaten Hawaiian food before and they were shocked at how good it was. We will definitely visit this restaurant the next time we're in Cherokee.

We were passing through Cherokee and decided to try the rice wagon. When we arrived, Peyton welcomed us, gave us her recommendations, and helped us order. The food was delicious. I was full before I ate half of my plate. My husband got some of the sauces from the chicken katsu to put on the shoyu chicken since he liked it so much. The environment was very clean and welcoming. It was a modern restaurant with outdoor seating available.

I LOVED my chicken katsu. Nicely breaded and cooked; the chicken was moist. The sauce was great. It got spicy after several bites. The Asian-inspired slaw was delicious -- lightly flavored purple cabbage. I want the recipe! And I want to go back. It's easily the best meal we've had in Cherokee. Spouse had the kalua pork, which he enjoyed (though he thought it was similar to NC pulled pork).

Great service, very clean establishment and awesome food! Highly recommended! The Big Kanaka was amazing!

We had to wait 40 minutes for our food because they ran out of cooked rice but its ok because the food was fire . I had the full plate of hurricane chicken and it came with mac salad and 2 scoops of rice. Just as good as some of the places i had on big island.

We had heard so many people recommend Rice Wagon while visiting Bryson City that we had to give it a try--and we're glad we did! We ordered the Chicken Katsu and the Bankai Chicken Katsu. Both dishes were similar, with one served with macaroni salad, rice, and crispy chicken, while the other came with rice, furikake, chicken, and a fresh cabbage salad. The menu is simple, but every bite was packed with flavor. The service was outstanding. The young man working the food truck provided service that honestly rivaled what you'd expect at a full-service restaurant. He was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely cared that we had a great experience. The setting is another bonus. The food truck is tucked behind a brewery, making it the perfect place to grab a drink, relax, and enjoy a delicious meal in a quiet, laid-back atmosphere. Out of all the places we tried during our trip, this was some of the simplest food--but also some of the most flavorful. It proves that you don't need a huge menu to make memorable food. We 100% recommend Rice Wagon if you're in Bryson City. Great service, delicious food, and a wonderful atmosphere! read more

The wife and I just came from the Blue Ridge Highway national Park. This restaurant is tucked away in a small little town called Cherokee. We were looking for a place that was open and simple and we could eat outside. We had the Eddy Burger and it was fantastic and the Hawaiian pork. Both items came with a Mac salad that was very tasty. The burger was cooked perfectly and was substantial size probably 7 or 8 ounces. This isn't a fine dining restaurant. It's a counter spot where you walk up place your order and they'll buzz you when your food is ready. Don't expect phenomenal service, but expect phenomenal food. Definitely worth the price and absolutely delicious. read more

Everything we ordered was amazing. I had the burger and my son had the Aji tuna fresh tuna in North Carolina honestly, I couldn't believe it. The place is awesome. The service is on point because you order your food at the counter and the ambience is legit. Good choice of beers to pick from and they also have great drinks from Hawaii. I was so excited to eat here because the reviews were great. I was really let down. I would say we ordered 5 things on the menu. It was mediocre... the rice was mush. The "mac & cheese" is like a mayo dressing or something. It was just a big let down. My food looked nothing like the photos. Nice find in Cherokee! Who couldn't use some moko loco today? Large portions. The Mac salad is on point. The gravy had a fresh sage leaf in it. A step above much of the quick offerings in the area and no line like some of the popular sit down spots along the river. read more

I travel to Hawaii often and this taste just like the Hawaiian plate lunches you can get at many restaurants in Hawaii. I was surprised and delighted. We have a cabin not too far from Cherokee, we're closer to Bryson City. We first tried the Rice Wagon food truck in Bryson City and decided we needed to try the location in Cherokee as well. I especially love the Loco Moco! And the musubi is a close second. I will definitely be going back on my next trip. read more

Stopped in after hiking and I will say we were more than pleased with our lunch. I had the garlic chicken and my husband had the kahlua pork. Both served with white rice. He had macaroni salad with his and I had broccoli. Food was fresh and hot and we had plenty to take home. If you haven't tried this restaurant, you should. read more

Food is a reminder of being in Hawaii! Service is timely and informative (if you don't know what to order), and the ambiance is great at Bryson City (next to Mountain layers, where you can eat your meal) or in Cherokee at their Hawaiian themed restaurant. Highly recommended ant both places and if their food truck is in Asheville, try it there too. read more

I'm in town for 2-3 weeks for work from SoCal and this is the best thing I've eaten since I've been here. I'm not a big southern/bbq/burger/gravy/deep fried type person. I mean I like that stuff as much as the next guy, but I almost never eat it just because it makes me feel sick/heavy afterward. Rice Wagon is really good. It's Hawaiian but more on the Japanese influence side of Hawaiian food. The rice itself is perfect, super sticky and easy to eat with chopsticks. The katsu is light and crispy. I got the one with an Asian cabbage slaw on it as well and it was very delicious. The owner seems like a super chill dude as well. It's also a nice little spot in a cool strip of shops. I bet it's a great place to grab lunch in the summer on the way into Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I will definitely be back to try some other stuff before I leave town and I'll try to upload some photos in here when I do since they don't have any posted. read more

This is the BEST restaurant you could ever decide to eat at! The food is fresh, delicious, and made to order quickly. Every bite is a savory taste of all the flavors food from Hawaii has to offer, brought all the way to beautiful North Carolina. Trust me it doesn't get any better than this and I'm from Hawaii. Our food in Hawaii does not compare to The Rice Wagon. The saddest thing for me is that I live too far to eat here everyday. The menu is inspired by local Hawaiians and is a great way to experience Aloha on the Eastern part of the US. Don't pass this place by! I ordered the Eddie Burger. I've never eaten a burger so quickly because it was just too good to stop. The portions are filling and the food is tasty you'll want to order another one right after. The staff takes pride in their presentation and delivery of every plate they sell. They are friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and want to make sure you keep coming back for more! Its a great place to dine comfortably right in the Great Smoky Mountains! This place is a gem and I can't wait to go back! read more

The gravy was lacking in flavor and the patty was overdone. We've all been fortunate to live on or visit O'ahu and Hawai'i island many times, so our expectations are high! That being said... would I go back? Absolutely. The people were kind and happy to make suggestions. The food truck was clean and well-kept. So unfortunately we didn't get to spend a lot of time exploring. Nonetheless, this was a great place to stop into.

Family and I were in town on vacation to visit the Smokies and learn more about the Cherokee heritage and history (side note, check out the Museum of Cherokee People. Very informative and worth the time). We needed dinner and found this joint online and decided to check it out. Stopped in and got the garlic chicken and the chicken katsu. Both were wonderfully delicious, served with white rice and some macaroni. The macaroni was so good and each of the chicken dishes were great. I loved the tangy katsu sauce and my wife really enjoyed to garlic chicken. Even our newly-turned one year old loved the macaroni and some pieces of each of our chicken.
