Also, I have back problems. I figured the closest I would ever get would be watching my kids train and watching kung fu movies. I have been training here for nearly five years (since the old location). I've progressed further than I ever thought I could. The instructors are great, and the other students are patient. There is no focus on competitions, there are no children's classes (adults and teens only), you don't have to be strong or athletic. That's not to say it isn't challenging--I've had plenty of sore muscles. And I've had fun doing it. It's a great way to leave the stress of the workday behind. It's good, practical self-defense, and an environment where you can better yourself.

Rennaissance Wing Chun - Testimonial…read more Written after 30 months of training. If you are looking for a place to learn how to fight, this is it. Your body will get in shape as a by product of training and diet. The instructor is a Master of his time with a broad knowledge of fighting philosophy who will help you understand the elements of fighting and how they are applied in combat situations. This is chiefly a wing chun school but you will also have access to other martial arts such as Sanda, Catch wrestling and Savatte. The purpose is to expose the student to fighting at different ranges to limit the vulnerability of circumstance. There will be bruises, especially on the fore-arms. Part of the "no-pain, no gain" mentality. After a while they feel like badges of accomplishment. Eventually your body will harden and they will become less frequent. Im starting to miss them already. I have met new friends although it feels more like a family. I have lost body fat and gained muscle in areas I have not been utilizing transforming into a more tone and proportionate body. I have learned techniques in self-defense all while maintaining interest and having fun. My pains from past surgeries are a rare occurrence and feel in my physical prime. Most people try the $25 week to check it out, the newbies who are serious in enhancing their combat knowledge tend to be the ones who stick around. I find the potential benefit far out-weighs the costs. I find myself very fortunate to have encountered this opportunity in my life and fore-see years enveloped in this system before losing interest, as there is so much to learn. I have finished the wing chun curriculum and still find myself learning new things while improving my fighting ability. Thanks to Grandmaster Ip-Man for adding to the establishment of this art and teaching it to others where it eventually found its way into our lives. May he be at peace and may we represent him in a good manner.

Whether your goal is weight lose or becoming the next IBJJF World Champion, Team Beauregard can make those goals become reality. Many instructors claim to have the knowledge but very few have the proof. Ryan has achieved success in becoming a IBJJF World Champion. His facility in Mesa has produced many local, state and national champions. These achievements show his extreme dedication to the sport of jiu jitsu and the knowledge to take your game to the next level. The schedule at Beauregards is flexible and accommodating for any person with the desire to train. With classes scheduled on Mon, Weds, Fri, & Sat, Team Beaurgard makes it real hard to come up with an excuse to skip jiu jitsu. Still can't make it, Ryan and his instructors offer private lessons. So.. Why do I think Ryan is the best instructor in Phoenix? I have trained jiu jitsu for years before coming to Ryan. I had some difficulties in jiu jitsu given my unique body type. I decided this wasn't for me and tried other activities to attempt to stay in shape. I belong to a gym and even tried cross-fit. 14 months later I came to him 25# overweight and couldn't last 3 minutes on the mat due to my lack of cardio. 6 months later, I am the IBBJF Blue belt National Champion and down almost 30#. Being a prior service Marine, I can say that training jiu jitsu allows me to stay in the best shape of my life. For anyone even remotely interested in jiu jitsu, grappling, or just fitness (staying in shape) training jiu jitsu is the best workout you will EVER get. The Sitan Gym atmosphere is family friendly (especially the gym dog Holly) and is comfortable to train at regardless of age or experience. I also interacted with Thiago a handful of times and he was always open and engaging every single time. This is without a doubt, the PREMIER location in Arizona if you want to learn the art of eight limbs whether it's through private or public instruction. The only reason I stopped going was due to some health complications I got that prohibited me from continuing training because I loved every damn minute of it.

My experience of mistreatment and injury For context, I have…read moremy blue belt in BJJ, so the martial art is not new to me. I am more than a beginner but certainly not an expert. I am also aware that injuries happen, it's a martial art after all. However, I am also aware that experienced black belt instructors are not supposed to be reckless and hurt students. I am writing this review to warn others about the conduct I experienced at this gym. Conduct that appeared to me to be condoned and enabled by others. During my very first time rolling with Coach Ramsey Green, my clavicle was snapped into 3 pieces and I had to have surgery the next week to install a metal plate and 10 screws. This injury occurred less than a minute into the rolling session, which is normally about 5 minutes. When at his first two attempts he could not take me down, I sensed he lost his temper and became frustrated. He then aggressively took me down on my side and SLAMMED his body weight onto my opposite shoulder, causing serious injury. This is a ridiculous display of immaturity and ego that this gym claims to be against. Never in my 3+ years training in BJJ have I dealt with a coach so blatantly immature and aggressive. After getting home from the ER, I called the women's black belt coach, who happened to be there at the time of incident, to update her. During this call, she admitted that she had concerns about Ramsey herself, but was afraid to take them to anyone. She would jokingly say things like everyone has a "Ramsey arm" from being arm-barred too aggressively. And that Ramsey would have "revenge rolls" with others in class if he felt he didn't beat them on a previous roll. All this told me that his behavior was being enabled at least by her, and very likely the owner and other instructors as well. When I told the owner, Paul Nava, what happened, he made no efforts to assure me something like this would not happen at his gym again. There was no offer of support in any way and no offer of action to prevent this from happening again. His response was that Ramsey was given a "talking to." Whatever that meant, it certainly did not mean he was suspended from teaching in any way. To my second point: this gym boasts that they are all about supporting women in BJJ, however, when I brought the concerns to the women in a WhatsApp chat, I was immediately blocked from it. It became very clear to me that they were going to protect him and his reputation, not validate any of my concerns. I absolutely love BJJ with a passion, and I will not allow one reckless instructor to prevent me from continuing to train, but I will never train here again and I do not recommend it to anyone else. Sadly, I really enjoyed training here initially and thought I had made friends, but their response to my injury was a complete betrayal of my trust and extremely hurtful. If you are looking to train in BJJ, find a good gym that makes safety a priority, and does not just look the other way when a student is seriously injured. The very least a gym can do is to ensure that every student, no matter what rank, is practicing in a safe environment.
