I get the impression that they don't really care to get your child to swim on their own quickly, it'll bring them more money if they teach slowly and keep you enrolled longer. Rivak comes to lead my workouts in my modest home gym, so I can get my workout in in less time than I was taking to commute to and from the gym, and pricing is very reasonable. -I am 53 and, while I have always been active, I've lost ground in the last few years between hitting 50 and working too much (including relocating to a rural part of New England (and back again to AZ, yay!)). Rivak is great at pushing me enough to get back to where I want to be, and hopefully past that. -I have a few injuries and arthritis issues to work around, plus challenges from sitting at my desk too much and letting my busy schedule impact my eating habits, and I totally trust that Rivak is knowledgeable enough to help me take control of those challenges while I helping me get stronger and NOT injure me further as less experienced "trainers" have done. -I am pretty highly motivated, so Rivak is a great fit for me on that front. Classes run almost every hour, plus open gym slots, so there's no excuse not to get a lift in. We are a real community. I initially had a good experience with Goldfish Swim School, but unfortunately, I left feeling…read morefrustrated by a lack of clear communication about their lesson package and makeup policies. I purchased a 5-month (20-lesson) package and specifically asked whether I could use missed lessons after the 20-week period, since I knew we would be traveling several times. I was told that I could, but I was not informed that I would need to maintain an active membership or that makeup lessons would need to be scheduled separately from our regular class. By the end of the 20 weeks, we had only completed 11 of the 20 lessons, yet I was automatically charged for another month. I contacted the school immediately to ask about the charge and explain the situation but did not receive a response. When I spoke with the front desk, I was told the charge could not be removed and that I would need an active membership to use my remaining nine makeup lessons. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to maintain an active membership just to use lessons I had already paid for. As a result, I lost a significant amount of money and ultimately paid more per lesson than their standard rate, despite purchasing a package that was advertised as including four free lessons. I understand that businesses have policies and rules, but my main concern is that I specifically asked about this before purchasing the package and was not given accurate information. Had the policies been clearly explained upfront, I would not have purchased the package. I hope the school considers improving communication around its package and makeup policies so customers fully understand the terms and costs before committing.

They met with us and identified some areas my son could work on after a consultation and set up a training plan. What I like is the trainer to kid ratio, the classes aren't that big and there is usually several trainers helping out. The facility is just for training athletes, it's their specialty. They also have the athletes log their workouts for review purposes. Also loved the fact that they are very low pressure with the training packages that they offer. It's pricey but worth it --- it's too darn hot to train outside!!!! If you are looking for a place to enhance your kid's workouts give ignite a call!

They started off with an athletic evaluation and let us know where your strengths and weaknesses are. They then have a plan for you but not just athletically, nutritionally as well. Sensei Hughes is presently a 5th degree black belt with Shorinryu Shorinkan, training under some of the premier martial artists alive today (including most recently Doug Perry and Eddie Bethea). The art he teaches is Okinawan Karate, taught as it has been for hundreds of years. If you want tournaments and trophies, this is not the school for you. No flips or other flowery routines. This one is about self defense, pure and simple. And while some time is spent on self defense techniques, all of these are derived from kata. Kata is not just a dance, it is a way to ingrain sequences of movements to the point where you do them without thinking about it. Those sequences can disable or devastate, depending on the situation. THAT is where the self defense really comes from. And developing it takes time. This is what we focus on. Kata, and applications of the different movements in the katas. There are several katas, and various techniques within each to keep it interesting! We also do weapons (for which there is no extra charge!!). I have been training with sensei for over three years now and am a blue belt (that's the 5th color, there are five more promotions to reach black). If you want trophies, or an expensive workout, there are many schools that can do that. If you want to learn real, practical self-defense, this is one of the best schools in the Valley. After my previous "training" at schools of dubious quality I consider myself fortunate to have found this one.

He has trained in many different styles of martial arts and chose Okinawan Karate to be the one to master. His emphasis on kata and bunkai is definitely the traditional approach. Physically he is tough, strong and a little intimidating (in a good way.) The words of wisdom that come out of his mouth are what truly impressed me. He breaks-down a defensive move slowly and explains it. He'll show how it was done in the old days on Okinawa, then show multiple variations. He talks about bullies and street thugs and the psychology behind their approach, leading me to believe he has firsthand knowledge of dealing with such individuals. If you live anywhere near Chandler, AZ and are interested in the martial arts, you owe it to yourself to stop by and observe a class or better yet join.
