The Renaissance really goes above and beyond in some areas, and I think for the average renter they have good value for the price. However after being here a few years this is what I've noticed.
Positives:
-Good prices, especially if you stalk the website and watch the price trends. I was about to get a 2b/1ba for under a thousand a few years ago.
-Very clean and quiet neighborhood, good upkeep of the grounds. Safe to walk around and well lit. Security walks and drives around. You can call them to escort you if you see/feel something sketchy : they will walk you to your door from the street/parking lot/gym.
-Maintenance is usually timely and polite. Some fiiiiiine maintenance men too.
-Washer and drier in unit!
-Gym with a few machines and treadmills.
Negatives:
-Mold, mold, mold, mold, mold! I had to have multiple requests in for mold treatment. First time they came and were like "lol this isn't mold, bye". I got a mold kit. It was mold. *eyeroll* Second and third time they did a treatment and said that the unit was humid and to keep wiping my windowsill's water up daily. My windowsills would collect water and grow mold if not wiped with bleach solution regularly.
-NO BATHROOM VENTS/FANS. Bathrooms do not have any external vents/fans- so you are expected to open the window (even in the dead of winter) or leave your bathroom door open each shower. If you don't: black spots grow on the ceiling and some orange/brown residue drips from your ceiling. Hope you like mystery juice dripping onto you while showering or running down your walls and tile! If you complain, they will blame this on you by asking if you leave a window or door open each shower.
-Office regularly closes before their scheduled business hours. Don't know why, but I get a text almost once a week that they're closing at 12noon, 2pm, or 3pm for unforeseen reasons. Happy hour? It's annoying if you get 1 hour notice before a random non-holiday closure and you can't leave work early to talk to them. The last month alone they've closed completely on 2/14, and closed early on 2/15, 2/23, 3/7. Not counting the snow day of 2/20.
-Office staff can be either hit or miss. I've had great experiences with Patrick and Taneisha: patient, friendly, funny. Bad experiences with a woman named Jen Ross: abrupt, flippant, and abrasive on the phone. Thinking the phone was the issue, I've seen her in person. Slightly better. She does not explain things clearly or in a way the general public can understand. If you ask for clarity she makes you feel stupid for even asking. I get the feeling she hates dealing w residents all day long, which I get. We all have those days I guess.
-Parking is laughable, I think they should do assigned spaces.
-Your car will get hit if parallel parked or in the lot, and no one leaves a note. Not the complex's fault but I wish they would address it by installing some cameras.
The mold/moisture issue and getting my car hit multiple times were deal breakers for me. Good luck future renters! read more
