    Chicken wings with fries
    Romeo L.

Our ROMEO group of 6 went here Tuesday. Arrived at around 11:20 and the waitress said it'd be a bit before he was ready to serve. She took our order around 11:40 or so. It was the first time for out group....we ordered (2) Jerk Chicken with rice/beans and plantains, and order of shrimp with rice/beans, two orders of chicken wings (one with jerk seasoning and one with habanero/mango sauce) and also a Jerk Chicken with cabbage and rice/beans. The jerk seasoning was very good. The jerk chicken was tender, well flavored and fell off the bone! The rice and beans are also very well flavored with the jerk sauce ( which had a nice tang to it). Plantains were excellent, fried with a crispy outside and soft on the inside. Everyone liked the food. The only issue was that these were the smallest chicken wings we've ever seen. The joke was that maybe they were pigeon or hummingbird wings! Very small, buy the habanero/mango sauce was a winner! Our ratings varied from 4-4.5 One of the chicken wing guys said he would've given it a five but the French fries weren't crispy. Atmosphere on the inside was decent (compared to what you would expect from the outside). Looks like they have a second room for nighttime entertainment with music and a bar.

It's a no for me. When you walk in the smell will trick you because it smells amazing. However there's something missing or lacking. I had the jerk chicken. I asked for the white meat which is an up charge and of course they didn't have it. The portion size seemed to be small for what we paid for. I had plantain and macaroni and cheese as my sides. The other plate we ordered was curry chicken with cabbage and plantain as the side. The curry chicken tasted flat but no curry flavor to it. The spices were there for both meats but it seemed like it lacked the flavor. Also the confusion of where to order. Is there a take out section? We watched people sit down to eat and ended up having to get up to order their food at the bar. We waited in line to also order at the bar.

This place is like a sweet little hidden gem. At least to me it was. I have never heard of this place before and was craving Jamaican food and yelp took me here. Excuse the picture, I started poking at my food before I took a picture lol! I enjoyed it! The rice and peas didn't quite taste like other versions or Jamaican rice and peas that I have had... but it was edible. The restaurant appears to be connected to a club/lounge. I wouldn't bring my kids here to sit down and eat, but the ambiance is suitable for a meet up with friends, meet n greet, maybe even a casual date. Staff was friendly and polite. The place is about 30/40 minutes from my house, but it's worth a drive to try out other options on the menu.

The food and service were mostly good, however the stew chicken was not very flavorful like some Jamaican places I've been to in the Charleston area. The collards were tasty and so were the rice and beans and plantains, the coco bread was ok, but hard on the corners. The inside of the place is a bit worn out and the walls could use a cleaning.

I can't speak on service in person and location because I did order from here through DoorDash, but I have mixed feelings. My bf ordered the food and I think the order was placed at around 6:40-6:45ish. The eta of delivery was 7:19-7:45 (something like that). They called him at 7:10 to say they did not have Rasta pasta so he ordered something else which of course would have taken them longer to make for him. Needless to say my food was cold while his was "piping hot" as he described. He got oxtails which seemed good because he ate it. He ordered beef patties which were really good. I love the flaky pastry, it was nice and crispy on the edges. The beef patty had really good flavor and a little kick to it. I ordered jerk chicken with fried plantains and rice and peas. The jerk chicken was good and very spicy, I love the jerk flavor. The rice and peas were good, it kind of had a tangy taste. I would have preferred white rice but it gave it as an option for an actual extra side item but not as a side that comes with the meal which was weird. The plantains were cold and chewy (I'm assuming that's how they are prepared), but I preferably like mine crispy. I feel like we should have been called prior to notify us they did not have Rasta pasta so we wouldn't have had to wait so long for our food and it also seems like they cooked mine first and it was sitting and waiting for his food to be done which caused it to be cold when i got it. I wasn't a fan of this experience but maybe next time will be better if there is a next time.

Ox tail with rice and plantains, strawberry cake, & grapefruit Ting.
    Kylie P.

I can't speak to their service or restaurant building since I got the food off of DoorDash. However, I can say that the ox tail was very delicious and tender. The plantains were also delicious, soft, and enjoyable. I'm a little bit of a picky eater, so I chose the "fries" option as my second side on DoorDash; however, what I received was rice instead. I don't mind rice, it just wasn't my preference. I'm unsure why it was substituted, but I'm sure they had a reason. The rice was okay, but even better when dipped in the juice from the ox tail. The Ting I was given was grapefruit flavored, and it was very tasty. Also, I ordered a chocolate cake, but they were out, so I chose strawberry instead. The cake was pretty standard, but enjoyable. Over all, I would definitely order from here again!

    Oxtail

I just arrived from NY and had a craving for Jamaican food. I ordered 2 items. One was the oxtail. I love almost everything about it except that it was so salty!! I couldn't finish it. Good thing I had also ordered fried fish. It was not salty.

Extremely Disappointing Experience - VDay…read more We attended a recent event here and it was honestly a waste of money. We paid $15 per person for entry, yet there weren't even enough chairs for guests. If you're charging for an event, basic accommodations like seating should not be an afterthought. Now the food. Every single item on both of our plates was undercooked and excessively greasy. The cabbage tasted almost raw. The rasta pasta was already separating within five minutes of being served -- the sauce had broken and was sitting oily on top, which made it obvious the food had been pre-made and simply scooped onto plates. It wasn't even hot when we received it. We returned both plates completely full. That should've been a clear sign something was wrong. Instead of concern or accountability, the manager came with an attitude and seemed ready to argue the moment we spoke up. No effort to make it right. No professionalism. Just defensiveness. That alone guaranteed we won't return. Alcoholic drink options were extremely limited, basically rum and Coke. That was it. All in, we spent over $100 that night between entry, food, and drinks and left hungry and frustrated. The only positive was the DJ, who was genuinely good and carried the vibe despite everything else. Beware: If you attend an event here, be prepared for limited seating, greasy and undercooked food, and management that may meet feedback with attitude instead of customer service. We won't be back.

I believe variety includes chicken, beef, spinach but not certain. My wife gets the curry goat and oxtail plates, the portions of meat and rice is large. The plantains are only two and cabbage is smaller than rice. I think the meat is probably the closest tasting it can get to the real thing. No Jamaican restaurant I visited in America can get the jerk chicken taste quite the way it tastes in Jamaica. The rice and peas don't have much coconut taste if any but they give a large portion. Plantain are good, our cabbage last visit was mushy not their best work as I don't remember having this complaint before. We haven't tried Escovitch or veggie plate here. There is a small section of spice bun, biscuits, other dry goods and freezer drinks. Sparse indoor seating, no bar, mainly pick up orders. Interior decoration features some geographical illustrations, pics, possibly hand crafted traditional pieces (not for sale), and boombox music. Prices are high for plates, perhaps that reflects portion sizes. Employee/customer relations is polite. Quick option of the few in Columbia on Irmo side.

The jerk chicken was sauce-based & had the perfect flavor combination. The macaroni and cheese was delicious. The flavor was there, and the noodles were not overcooked. The steamed vegetables and the rice and peas were all good as well. It was a pleasant surprise. You park and get out order at the window and go back to the window when your food is ready. My husband has been sent in and I thought this would be a good treat for Good Friday to have some food that reminds him a bit of his home. We ordered curry goat and oxtails with rice and peas mac & cheese and plantains. I ordered rice with mac & cheese, plantains and okra. I did enjoy the okra, it was cooked really well. It also tasted pretty good. The mac & cheese was good, I wish for a slight more bite with the cheese so on a scale of five I'd give it a four out of five. The portion size was OK for me, but not for my husband who is 64 and 260 pounds. He felt the goat was pretty good, but the oxtail not so much. He liked the rice and peas, but wish there were more peas. We could count the peas in his rice and in my rice and still have fingers left. What we're used to is a good ratio, rice and peas. The jerk chicken appeared to be overcooked or old. The plate came with 3 sides. So I chose plantains, cabbage, and green beans. It also came with 3 sides; macaroni, white rice, and cabbage. Definitely the least enjoyable oxtails we've tried in the area. The macaroni needed salt and the oxtails were tough.
