As my time in Stirling comes to an end, I'm remembering all those places I'd made loose plans to visit. I've enjoyed my time in the city and I want to squeeze in as much as I can before I go; revisit old favourites and try businesses I haven't quite got round to in my five year stretch.
So, last night, after a day's worth of packing, we decided to try the Regent's Peking and Cantonese offering for takeaway, rather than opting for our faithful Indian local. I love Indian food, so it was a real challenge to try something new instead of going for something I know that I love.
The Regent is somewhat mysterious, because you can't see in the windows. We were curious as to what it would look like inside. We soon found out that it's elegant and oriental and warm. We were just fascinated by the sheer size of the HUGE vase near the waiting area. - The atmosphere was well and truly set.
It was busy for a Sunday evening. We were given a friendly welcome before taking a seat to browse the takeaway menu. We ordered: barbecue ribs, spring rolls, hot and sour chicken soup, pineapple chicken and chicken with mushrooms in black bean sauce, with one portion of fried rice and one of fried noodles. The total was just over £31. Unfortunately, we only had £30 on us but we live just seconds away so it wasn't a problem to run home and get the difference. I apologised and was all set to head home and get the money when the waiter said that it was okay and not to worry about it, which was so nice of him, and says a lot about the Regent. It was lovely to see that the staff seemed to be familiar with a lot of the people coming and go and it felt like there was a genuine appreciation for their custom.
The food was great. As I've said, I'm an Indian takeaway gal and that's just a matter of flavour preference, but I really really enjoyed the Regent's food. It was comforting, traditional and delicious. The welcome and service above all stood out for me, and for that reason I'd recommend the Regent. read more
