Decided to finally try this chicken place close to my home. I usually go to WB in Herndon or DHC at Tyson's. Those are my favorites. I would rate this place above HJ but below WB or DHC. We got the RB#2. Two sandwiches with fries. One medium and one Hot. The Hot is like medium compared to other places. The medium is just a normal chicken in my opinion. The size of the chicken is a bit smaller also in comparison and their fries are normal crinkle fries. I also did not like their slaws. It is cut so small that they falls out when eating the sandwich. However, they do have a good variety of sauces. There are limited seating and night we were there it was pretty full. It is probably a good place to go if you live around there and want to get a quick bite. Maybe I will go back and try the Halal Guys style #1. read more

My husband and I love spicy food and love spicy crispy chicken sandwiches and had to give the Red Bird a try. First impression and this review is just from the first visit, which the restaurant was clean and super friendly service. I was welcomed immediately entering the restaurant. We got extra hot sandwiches and fck you hot chicken and rice bowl. For the buck you can't get this deal anywhere, only $9.99 for two full size sandwiches with fries and generous potion chicken and rice bowl for $6.99! The extra hot wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be, and if you are like me and eat spicy food daily and have the high tolerance for spicy food. Extra hot won't be spicy for you. The fck you however had more heat to it but still not as spicy compared to some other places. Again this is if you can take the super spicy heat and got the tolerance for spicy food and love the spicy. Chicken was crispy for the sandwiches but the chicken in the rice bowl got soggy as I expected. Overall I give this spot 4 stars. read more

A pretty great hot chicken fast food joint in Reston! Very inexpensive - the Redbird #2 is only $10 for 2 sandwiches and a handful of fries! It was filling and I had split it with someone else. I got the "Hot" flavor but I definitely want to try the other flavors. The "Hot" flavor wasn't hot for me but my tolerance is pretty high. But the chicken was very juicy. And I love how they have extra sauce on the side for dipping. The only thing I didn't like is that they didn't have a water dispenser for customers to use. It's a HOT/SPICY chicken place and they want to force people to buy drinks? It feels like a hassle to ask the workers to keep refilling your water. And people love to bike around Reston. My husband and I decided to do the two sandwich combo with the fries and we actually asked the guy if they were slider sized sandwiches because we couldn't believe the price. All in I think it's cheaper than Chik fil a. We also got a side of Mac and cheese. I went with the medium and my husband got mild. This is my favorite place to get lunch in the area I work. Hands-down, best hot chicken in the area, super affordable, and great service. These are not just regular chicken tenders sprinkled with seasoning after they're cooked like you get at Hangry Joe's. The chicken is super flavorful, large pieces, and these are the only crinkle fries I actually enjoy (they're crisp, not soggy, and seasoned well). Mo is the man, and runs a great restaurant. I wanted to like this place but I just couldn't get there. It's a popular place, lot of traffic so you might like it but it just wasn't for me. It's a super crispy piece of chicken. It's not that thick and chunky so if you like flat crispy chicken, this is your spot. None of the sauces were that good. I got all of them and they were all on the sweeter side and mayo based which I'm not a fan of. Last part is it's kind of messy. The slaw is a nice touch but it's not enough to balance the flavors. I wouldn't go again but you might like. There's plenty of space inside to eat and the staff was cool and friendly. read more

Clean, timely, efficient service with a good price, and decently good food. In terms of the ingredients and execution, I have to say the breading, tenderness, flavor, and juiciness of the chicken are all spot on. The only reason I have to ding the chicken is that there's a little too much spice on it, and that the flavor is perhaps a little basic; in that while it is good, the spices seemed to only make it hotter rather than making it more flavorful. The sauces are good, but there's a question as to whether the chicken should be good on its own merits or only with the accompaniment of sauce. I leave that for you to decide. Unfortunately, the fries do not quite hit the mark and are a significant reason for lowering the score. However, I do applaud them for attempting to control quality by only having a few selections on the menu. Likewise, I cannot say exactly for sure what would make this restaurant better, but from my personal opinion, it would be to address my quibbles here in as well as to add a additional element to the fries and chicken to distinguish it from other hot chicken places; in particular, I can see a nutty or lightly sweet element going well with the coleslaw and hot chicken sandwiches. Will probably return. The place warrants a greater 3 stars rating but is not quite 4 stars. Come and see for yourself. read more

Crazy good food. They really only do chicken, like chick-fil-A or Popeyes, but I dare say this is a step above. The chicken sandwich is just that -- chicken, and lots of it. The breast is perfect; tender, juicy, thick, and coated in their special spicy rub. Add cheese, plus their shredded lettuce/slaw, and put it on a toasted bun, and I think this beats any sandwich out there. You HAVE to try this. The fries are very good. Crinkle cut, light, not oily, and salty... perfect plain, or throw some ketchup or even their special yummy hot sauce on them. Rounding out the menu is their tenders (basically the sandwich minus all the accoutrements) and the chicken rice bowl, very much in the style of Halal Guys, which is also excellent. But that's not the only great thing.... Their prices are phenomenally low. A sandwich will run you $4.99 just by itself, but if you are feeling a bit peckish, you can get 2 sandwiches and fries for just $9.99. Try that anywhere else. The tenders and the bowls are also delicious, affordable (under $10) and very filling. Crazy. The service is excellent too, if you come during lunch or dinner there might be a line due to high demand but they'll get you taken care of quickly. If you come in during off-hours, their target time for filling an order from payment to delivery is 90-120 seconds, and they seem to meet that every time. Staff are nice and friendly too. The restaurant in Reston is very nice. They keep it extremely clean, and it has a nice industrial, Chipotle-style feel to it. It's not huge, just 6 tables, but there is a nice outdoor seating area in the plaza, with lake views, just a few feet from the entry door. There is a location in Vienna, with several others planned to open soon across the Northern VA area. All in all, this is a fantastic new chain, and you have to try it if you haven't yet. Don't let the low prices fool you... the food quality is excellent. The owners are trying to provide an affordable fast food alternative for people without breaking your budget. Really good and huge portions. I ordered the two sandwich combo (#2) to go on a Sunday night. The place was almost packed but there was no line at the register; it took about 5 minutes from the time I got there to get my food. I ordered one medium and one extra hot sandwich but the spice level was about the same for both even though they were labeled correctly. Still good though. About the same price as Chick-fil-a but better food and bigger portions. I'd give them 4.5 stars. My only knocks on them were one of my sandwiches was overloaded and hard to handle (not a big deal for me but a lot of people get turned off by messy food) and the fries were uneven (most were crispy and tasty but about a quarter were cool and soft). read more

This is the BEST bang for your buck restaurant in Reston / the surrounding area. 2 chicken sandwiches and fries for $10 feels like it has to be a scam, right? Nope! This place is cheap AND it's incredibly good. The chicken in the sandwich is HUGE - I normally have to cut off 30-40% of it so I can have a normal sized sandwich (and of course I eat that on the side). I like to eat my food with a lot of sauces and Red Bird has some of the best ones. They have 6 different heat levels that you can choose between, so anyone who likes it hot gets what they need. I personally don't go higher than the 4th heat level (Hot) as that will make me sweat a little, but I don't normally go out of my way to eat spicy food. The service has been top notch every time I've gone as well - food is always ready pretty quickly. Do yourself a favor and order online ahead of time cuz they can sometimes get busy during lunch and dinner hours (which is no surprise because this place is delicious). read more
