It's my kind of museum. Wuxtry Records never disappoints, and it's another Athens staple; they have been there since 1976. When I was at UGA, I swear my roommate/bestie and I went here weekly. It's right in the heart of downtown Athens, and it offers everything you would need and expect from an independently owned record shop that has survived many decades. Great collections and variety, while also extremely and intentionally organized. Some of my favorite bands have come out of the Classic City that is Athens, GA such as R.E.M, The B-52's, and Widespread Panic, so it only makes sense that there would be such an epic and well-known record shop here. If you know Athens, especially downtown, you know parking is limited and they do ticket if you don't pay the meters, so definitely recommend going during the week and earlier in the day. I was so happy to stop in my last visit in town, and it was even more nostalgic and sweet because I had my best friend and old college roommate with me.

Every record I picked up had surface scratches or something crazy wrong with it. I picked up a cover to a record that had math all over it from a game of spades. Why the hell would something like that be on the shelf? Nothing is priced. You have to build a stack, take it to the counter, and let the owner price it then. He looks up each individual record on Discogs then charges double or triple the value of the record. Also if you have an issue with a record, there are NO REFUNDS / EXCHANGES. Positives are that it's ducked off in a private location, and it's mildly organized. Prices are not outrageously expensive like FantasyLand or Criminal. A man emerged from the back area of the quaint store clothed in a beautiful purple silk kimono topped 6 inches above his knees. He wore nothing beneath but had a radiance about him when he made eye contact with you in a way that made you feel as safe as you were as an infant while your mother nestled you in her bosom....okay, I'm done with the story. What I'm trying to say is, Joe is frigging awesome and has a thorough knowledge of all types of music and makes fabulous suggestions regarding bands you may not have heard of to add to your repertoire. Picked up so many records, I was left to decide which ones I had to put back. Still ended up with some gems but I forgot to get The Fonky Homosapiens, Janice Joplin and a few others. They have a decent selection from rock, pop, jazz, metal, r&b and rap. They even have a big selection of cd's.
