Shoreline Recycling & Transfer Station - Main building for Recology Shoreline and dump by weight/fee (9/10/24)

Shoreline Recycling & Transfer Station

A place that takes my Styrofoam recycling for free? No paid membership? (Ridwell) No purchase…read morerequired? (Recology) AND take many other types of recycling for free?!!? FIVE STARS!!! My local city had hosted a Styrofest before the pandemic. Since its cancellation, it has been a struggle to find a proper recycler for block Styrofoam that opens on the weekend. One magical place - the Shoreline transfer station serving King County residents! I read before going that they accept many types of residential recycling for free. We filled our car with blocks of Styrofoam that have been sitting in the garage for years, a collection of textiles that aren't usable, and a big bag of plastic bags and wrappers that meet the recycling requirements. Because they also take dump at a fee, we are stopped at the little kiosk. She sees our Styrofoam and immediately tells us to follow the blue line. The rest is super simple, keep driving until you see the container like bins with the open doors, stop, empty the car, and leave. FREE! A sign says let an employee know if the super-sized bags are full. Signs at each bin tell you exactly what is or is not acceptable; that information is also online. We are super happy with how easy and useful it was. If you are an ardent and adamant recycler like me, this place is magical!

Well, I have used them twice now and while I didn't notice any shenanigans, they didn't pay much…read morefor my scrap. Probably cost me more in gas to get there. Next time I'll make (actually, be out less) by just dropping it off for free and the WM recycle station. PS: I agree with the previous reviewer - the gal at the weigh-in was not nice at all.

This is the first time I have pulled the trigger on giving a review of this business. Since around…read more1999 I have been dealing with these folks because they are close to where I live. You can never know when these folks will decide to scam you or when you will be delt with fairly. I have been scammed by this establishment more than not. They have quoted one thing, then on my way to the pay office after they take my load of aluminum to the metals building , they declare that they have to declassify my aluminum to a lower level of payout even though they were the one sorting my metals into their weigh bins and grading it. They also would pull "tare" weight out of their ass and say that my garbage bag that I had my aluminum cans in somehow had a tare weight of 2 pounds! A 13 gallon kitchen garbage can bag! WTF! Needless to say , I had issue with his little guess, but he just shewed me along, "there are people behind you , keep it movin". They also delivered a container to my property, I filled it, they took it and there's a long delay in giving us the weghts, tares, etc. We call and " ohhhh, we couldn't read what the weigh station clerk wrote down. Can't tell if it's an 11 or 17 ,so we'll get back to you". Weeks later, we finally here that the check is waiting at the office. I go to pick it up . They get the check and say "sign the pad" from behind bullet proof bank window. But I say I need to see what I am signing for. Dude hold up this check for $250! The container I filled to the top with steel. I was quoted $150 a ton for the steel and $150 for them to retrieve the container from my property. This tells me that somehow steel isn't actually heavy at all, even though this was a very hard task of loading this container to the top. Somehow, my 95 percent full container that was 8 feet tall only had about 2 and a half tons of steel. Anyways! On the check it says 7800lbs.WTF!!!!!!!!!! What happened to "we couldn't tell if it was an 11 or 17"?!!! An 11 nor a 17 look like 7800 ! Where is my fucking money?! And, and they charged me $300 for pickup! These people.... They owe me money and answers. You can't trust these people. These issues aren't the half of it. The say things like" the person who quoted you that last month, no longer works here". These people are SUS! Watch your back and document EVERYTHING! All the trust worthy folks that I had good encounters with are all absent.

We called when the refrigerator at our rental house stopped working. I should have known something…read morewas up when he refused to take my credit card for the diagnostic call and said that they wouldn't do the diagnostic work unless I brought a check to the house. We jumped through that hoop and got a check to the house in time for the appointment. The man told us that the technician would arrive between 10:30am and 1:30pm so I could tell my tenant when she'd need to be home The tenant was there, but the tech never showed up. The tech nor the office called either my tenant or me to let us know of a delay. When I called around 2:45pm to ask what was going on, the man at the office acted put out that I would dare ask for the COMMON COURTESY to receive a call regarding the delay. He then accused me of demanding that the technician leave his current job to go to our diagnostic call. I did not do that. All I asked was for them to call us to let us know what was going on. Because I stood up for myself when he started acting rude, he told me that he was taking our house off the schedule. So now I sit on a Friday night in a lurch because this very rude and unprofessional "business" person can't handle a simple request for a phone call when there will be a delay. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR APPLIANCE SERVICE.

I guess the the bad part or the reason I even went there in the first place was Ed on the phone…read moresounded really friendly, helpful, interested in having my business all that stuff but once you park your car and try to walk in, he's an asshole start to finish. He'll ignore you while you're clearly the only person there and talk to other coworkers. He changes the hours whenever he feels like it. I can't tell you how many times I've rushed to get there b4 3 ( posted hours are 5 I think. But ed says he stops taking customers @3 so they can clean up) it's never clean from what I see. Last time I got there b4 three but Ed said he stopped at 2 today. All his guys are home!?! doing it at two or no OK pleasure not doing business with you everybody I've encountered that works there which is very few people. They're all pricks. They all treat customers like shit they rip you off and be honest, I really don't care scrap I'm not trying to get a lot of money. I'm just trying to not pay to throw my metal away, but he's just a liar. I can honestly say every time I've been there and even seen him deal with other customers he is a dick. There is a guy that does that nonferrous his name is Tom, I think Tom he's a good guy I think sometimes Ed's shittiness rubs off on him and he starts trying that out but for the most part he's always treated me with respect but one good guy doesn't save the bunch. They're all a bunch of pricks I'll never do business with them again ever And why would I there's better options that are close and closer to home

rude over the phone and prices are outrageous for damaged parts .read more
