Visited The Rec Room at Square One on Family Day long weekend, which also fell on All Star weekend and during the Olympics. It was busy, but not full. There were many dirty tables and several guests seated without food, and it was clear they were understaffed. We waited about 30 minutes before anyone came to our table. We had to flag someone down to ask who our server was. When someone tried to take our order, our assigned server stepped in but did not acknowledge or apologize for the wait, even though she had walked past us multiple times. Our mains arrived before the appetizers. My order was incorrect and had to be sent back. The person I was with was also given the wrong steak and shrimp plate and started eating it before we were told it belonged to another table. Later, my corrected meal came out and it was still wrong a second time, so I had to send it back again. When the bill arrived, we were charged the higher price for the incorrect steak and shrimp dish without being advised of the price difference. At no point were the multiple mistakes acknowledged or apologized for. The food itself was decent, but the service completely overshadowed the experience. The food is pretty decent mushroom pizza, noodle salad were outstanding. Everything else was average. We had come here on Family Day for an afternoon of fun with my young children, mother, and brother. When we had first arrived to the restaurant on the upper floor, we were asked to see the host at the front in order to be brought to a table. Once we were brought to a table, we were greeted by a kind server by the name of Arwa. We were given menus, then chose our items by asking Arwa various questions about the items. Arwa was absolutely amazing with the information that she provided to us, giving us confidence that we were ordering delicious items. If Arwa wasn't sure of the questions that we had asked, she would go to the kitchen and ask, coming back quickly to give us the answers that we were looking for. Once we had ordered, we were given small bags of popcorn to munch on by the manager, Sam. Sam was a delight; he made jokes with us, and made us feel comfortable while we were waiting. He was warm and friendly, while even offering to give us extra bags of popcorn if we had wanted them. He definitely made our stay even more pleasant then it already was. Along with Kamila, whom came over to assist Sam, we were well-served and pampered during our stay. Once the food arrived, we were surprised at how delicious everything tasted, and how well-portioned the items were. I had the chicken club salad, and had asked for an alternative dressing, which was an excellent choice considering the combination of ingredients in the salad. My mother settled on the fish tacos, which she found was a large portion however, delicious, and my children settled on the cheese pizza and chicken fingers. All items were eaten up quickly, and well-enjoyed. Overall, I would highly-recommend this restaurant to anyone that wants to experience excellent service; Arwa, Sam, and Kamila went out of their way to make us all feel comfortable, and provide us with an experience that we will always remember. Came in a Sunday night to watch the NBA finals game , was visiting from out of town and brought my little brother for his bday celebration . My husband ordered a margarita and it was very sour . We told the server , who then proceeded to tell us how a margarita is made ... as if I haven't had a million margs in my life . It was very condescending and she took the drink back . Second thing was I bought a wrist band to play the games. We played pool and decided to go play some more games , we found out the games close off at 10pm..... this was not mentioned to me when she sold me the wrist bad at 9:30pm .... So now I have a wrist band full of points that I'm not going to use because I don't live there ! Fun and entertaining adult arcade, a little bit expensive but a great time with friends!!

The rec room is 2 floors of games, with a bar and restaurant on the upper floor and a snack bar downstairs. You can enter through the mall, across from uniqlo but they chain the entrance just before the mall closes. The outside entrance is near the bus terminals. It's a good looking well designed space. A great venue for parties, noisy meetups, and families. We had dinner and everyone was pleased with the food, includes a great kids menu. The place was booked when we made reservations but the tables were surprisingly mostly empty on arrival. Our waiter was nice and helpful but it was hard to signal someone when we needed something. After dinner comes the games. You buy a bracelet and feed it with money for credits to play. The more money you load, the more extra "free" points you get. You get prize points for game play, which don't expire so you can reuse the bracelet indefinitely and save up for that michael kors purse prize. The kids liked racing each other the most, and there are a few races to try. The other games for tickets felt like gambling rip offs. The prize room is upstairs by the bathrooms. They could provide more wipes and sprays as the pandemic isn't over. We would have liked to try bowling but we couldn't get coordinated enough to reserve it. Ping pong was full up too. Axe throwing was only 10 turns whereas archery had like 3 rounds of 9 shots I think. If you ever go for one of these, I recommend archery. Stopped by to play games with my sister and we decided to stay and dine here as well. It was Sunday at 5pm and the dining room was practically empty, but we still had to wait 10 to 15 mins to get seated as there was no one out front to help us. There were two workers but they said that they weren't in charge of seating and to wait for someone else to come. Finally when we got seated, the waiter came by with the water. I ordered the three10 burger and my sister got the Mac n cheese. Now I wasn't expecting much for a place like the Rec Room for their eats but these dishes were underwhelming. The burger was okay but cold and the fries were overcooked to the point where is was just too hard to eat. The Mac n cheese was pretty much watered down with no cheese pull and it barely had any cheese taste to it. We were both disappointed in the food given the price of it. The place is pretty big, with the dining area at the top level and gaming area at the bottom. Interior is similar to the downtown location, bright and ambient. The waitress serving us was nice, accurate with orders and food service was fast. Food Ordered the Threeten burger with salad. It has two patties served with tomato, lettuce and pickles. The burger itself is basic, nothing too outstanding and out of the ordinary. The patty was good, but was thinner than I thought - which in a way two of them makes it look better. Bun was soft and buttery. Salad was just mixed greens with an olive oil dressing. Everything was basic that I could do at home, cost me around $16. VR Reserves and paid tickets online two weeks in advanced. Came to the VR section and it said "closed for a private event". Reception said it's open and will notify staff. Waited 10 min and staff then tells us it's under maintenance and to play another time. Couldn't give us a refund cause it's associated with cineplex. Overall very disappointed on how this was handled. There was no communication prior to us coming and lack of communication between staff. Putting a blame at cineplex just made the solution more ridiculous. Came all the way here from Markham for nothing. read more

There were gf and vegan options on the menu. I had a veg bowl, which was quite good but huge. I also had a side of the quinoa "fried rice" because the server felt I wouldn't get full with "just vegetables". I had to pack half my vegetables (bowl) to go as it was too much food. If I end up coming here again it will be just for the video games and definitely not the food. Came here with a large party. Not one person in our party said their food was even remotely decent. Everything we ordered was unfortunately incredibly underwhelming. I got the Mac n' Cheese and it was so gross and tasteless. I took 3-4 bites then lost my appetite. Taste: 3/5- the appetiser was very good,appealing to the palette and has a good aesthetic appearance; however, there are only a couple of pitas-6 pieces for a very good dip- which will tempt you to order for a pita for another dollar. The layered lasagna was nothing special-- didn't appealed to my taste buds and won't be ordering again, the potatoes was good,soo definitely will recommend that. Unfortunately this place was quite disappointing. Despite the space compared to the downtown being much better, food and amenities this place missed the mark. Starting with the food. Reservations were made 3 weeks ago, at which the person who took the call said they very full but will squeeze us in (thx for the favour), restaurant was half empty. Staff was courteous and knowledgeable about products but could have used soke refining. Asked us if we wanted take out containers and then forgot to bring them. Kids meal was a great deal at $12. This includes unlimited popcorn, a juice a main (she had a cheese burger) and a side. We chose the beans and peas. The beans and pees didn't have any beans. When we asked the waiter, he said he noticed that as well. If he noticed he should have done something. He got us some beans after we asked. Same with the popcorn which only came after we saw other tables get popcorn. I ordered eggs Benedict with an added smoked salmon. Probably the worst eggs Benedict I have ever had. Salmon wasn't big pieces but was just junks of smoked salmon similar to something that would have come out of a can rather than a nice fresh PC (grocery store would have been better). Only one of my eggs ran as the other was over cooked. The English muffin was not toasted so just acted like a sponge for the grease. Overall the whole thing was a disaster. Other people at the table had issues with their food. The timing was all off for them trying to bring food out to everyone at the same time . Some food was already cold due to poor timing. Would hate to see how they would deal with bigger groups as we were 8 and they could not time it right. People who had dishes with cheese, the cheese already hardened again before coming out. Now to the games as we went there to play some games as well. Bracelets from downtown location do not work at this location. They said they have to still get on the same system so they force you to pay the $2 charge to get a new card. Also the elevators did not work and we had 2 strollers with us. We had to carry them up and down the stairs as their 1 elevator they have already doesn't work properly and was out of order. I hope that this was just a one off and they will get better. A bit surprising to find this place with a relatively low overall rating. I suppose it's true that the restaurant may merit around a '3' but there's Many other components to this place, which they did really well from my experience. The place makes up 2 floors. The top floor is mostly the lounge and restaurant space, but they also have an axe throwing space and their prize room. There's also a few pool tables. They have a coat check which is free and also free which I thought was cool was a phone charging locker. Downstairs is largely the arcade and the bowling alley. There is also some type of VR area but it advertises stuff like "smells" "moving" and other things, so maybe a 4D type of thing. It was a perfect place to bring my kids on one of the teacher's strike days. Lots of great games and they seem to balance having a bit more regular games over the token-winning ones compared to the Rec Room downtown. The bowling alley is a bit more than you'd pay at some other places, but it's nice to have in a one-stop shop (or play). Beyond that, I thought it was really cool that you could program which players used the bumpers on their turn. Then, it would automatically raise and lower for each player who requested it which made it much more fun for me - and almost evens the playing field between kids and adults (depending on your level). The screen can even take each player's picture and add emojis and animations when it's their turn. Maybe a bit gimmicky, but it was a lot of fun for my kids. I wasn't floored by the food in the restaurant, but it wasn't bad either. It looks as though some reviewers had challenges with service, but I didn't run into the problem at all. In fact, I'd say that our server was terrific.The food quality is probably comparable to a Kelsey's or something similar. I had the WORST dining experience here. My group of seven took ages to be seated, the drinks took ages to arrive, the food then took ages to arrive. Altogether from the time we sat down to when we actually got our food, probably 1.5 hours went by. We were so eager to get back to playing the games, we were NOT in the mood to wait. There was also maybe only 4-5 full tables other than us? We had no idea why the wait time was so high. I got the mac and cheese which was a terrible dish to get for the price. It's about 16$. It was on the smallest plate, maybe only 2 cups of macaroni was used and the thinnest layer of cheese on top. For some reason in pictures the portion looked a lot bigger. And it came with a huge portion of fries, which I didn't ask for? The bill also took ages to arrive and was probably the biggest mess I've ever seen when it comes to a bill. We had requested for a split bill, but ended up being billed as one. Something then lead to another and we were then told we could not get individual bills. The waiter/tress then had to manually calculate the details which took something upwards of 15 mins. We were even charged the 18% tip amount that is added to the bill when you have 8 people; we were 7. When the bill was being manually calculated it was not mentioned that the 18% was already added, not knowing any better one of the people at our table added a 15% tip on top of that. So it was about 6$ for their $18 meal. 1/3 OF THE MEAL. When we called them out on the 18% there was not so much as even an apology. I don't normally say this as people have bad days but this was just pathetic and it's very unlikely I will bother dining here again. read more

I was wickedly surprised. This is where all the young and young at heart hang. I ass here with Charlie, after a few cocktails we went down to business to game. Playing zombie, snowboarding, bike racing and ski ball (I think that's what its called). Wickedly fun. The rides do lack the full experiential feedback but if you need to upgrade-try the real thing??? The environment is very nightclub-like with the murmurs and jingles of arcade games. Upstairs theres a restaurant and throughout there are places to hide for a conversation. There is a bouncer at the front ID checking and approving you when your old enough. This was the first and not the last time I step foot in here. As a former Playdium addict this is way better, way cooler and no pay for entry entrance so you can casually walk in load up and play or wander around and enjoy a drink. Booked The Rec Room for a team building event a few weeks in advance of it's opening and spoke to their head office. Paid a (hefty!) deposit as we were 40 people visiting and also were opting for a fixed menu. When I arrived to the location, I was told by a flustered employee they had no record of our reservation. He apologized and told me he was new. Ok, fine but I was definitely panicking as I let him know I had 40 people showing up in 30 minutes from then. He said he would go and get his manager to help out. The manager finally came over after what felt like hours and I could tell he was definitely pissed his head office person didn't relay the info about the reservation to him. Thankfully, he decided to just deal with it and mobilized his staff quickly to get a space set up for us - very appreciated! While this was behind the scenes disastrous (I was so stressed!), from the outside our employees were none the wiser as the room was set up just in the nick of time before they started arriving. I was surprised at how tasty the food was (its always a gamble when doing a prix fixe for so many peeps) but everyone that offered me feedback said they enjoyed and I liked the food I tried too. We had a mixed menu of fried calamari, margarita pizza, chicken wings, artichoke dip, and freshly made pretzels. Our team enjoyed a fun afternoon and so many people had a blast playing the games (we purchased game bands for all of our attendees). Haven't been to the downtown location, so can't compare. I came here for a quick bite, some axe throwing, and some games. A huge space with a lot of different things to do/see/eat, which is great for larger groups. The place was not that busy at around ~8pm on a Wed night, and lines for food/games were short. Food was decent, but nothing memorable. I had a large poutine ($9.50) to share w/ a friend. We also did some axe throwing. We did a trial/sampler to see if we liked it first ($4), which was 5 throws + 2 trial throws. It was pretty fun and the person guiding us gave us some great throwing tips. As for the arcade games, it's mostly the same ones you see at Dave+Busters / Playdium, but the lines are short and the age range was a bit older, which I appreciated for a night out. I'm a fan of shooter games, and noticed the limited selection there. We also wanted to do bowling, but all lanes were full and we didn't want to wait, so we ended up skipping it. We did play some pool though, in the area next to the stage looking enclosure, and had a good time. All in all, a good place to go, especially with large groups / indecisive friends as there's lots of activities / things to do. The venue looks really good and the space is huge. The food isn't stellar and the pricing runs a bit high for pretty much everything, but it's consistent with the area it's in and has a fantastic location. There's a little bit of everything here and will prob appeal to most. A friend told me they have events like quiz nights or stand up here too, which would be cool to check out next time we swing around. read more

Please keep in mind, that this is not my first time going to this particular location and while I have had good times here, this visit has left a bad taste in my mouth and after this, I don't think I will ever consider going back here to dine. Today (October 2, 2021) I hosted a dinner for 14 people for my fiancé's birthday. We were placed in a private area, which was nice, but the service was lacking. 1) we received beer pitchers of water filled with so much ice that it was spilling everywhere as we tried to pour water out. We had to ask our server multiple times for napkins, utensils and plates to use for our appetizers. 2) the appetizers: the calamari looked like rejected pieces. They were EXTREMELY small, had far too much breading and was over cooked. The three cheese dip had massive chunks of artichoke on it and was very watery. 3) the mains: I understand that this isn't a steakhouse, but don't put something on the menu that you cannot cook. My fiancé ordered his steak medium and received it rare, while a small portion of it was cooked close to a medium. My steak was half medium rare while the other half was too dry to be eaten. I cannot for the life of me understand how someone can cook a steak like this for it to happen. The "mashed potatoes" were nothing more that a packet of Betty Crocker I stand mashed potatoes that were so gloopy. My fiancé request no bacon on their salad, which th where was. When we brought the issue of the steaks up to my waiter she did say she would bring the manager over, who walked towards us, glanced at our table and while they did remove my fiancé's steak from the bill, didn't remove mine as I ate too much of it, which I assume one would do if they thought their steak was cooked properly. 4) timing: when I made my reservation for 7:30 pm, they never said anything about the location closing at 10 and was only told at 9pm which was extremely disappointing because we wanted to relax and chat before eating and playing games. The food was average and the service was a bit slow, but we still had a good time overall! I got the Atlantic cod fish and chips (2 pieces) - the fish had a lot of batter, but still tasted good. Others in my group said that several things (spicy chicken sandwich, popcorn) were too salty. Came here last night for a friends surprise birthday and it so happened to land on the same date as the Raptors final division game. This place is in the newly developed area of the popular Square One Mall. I've always wanted to spend some time at the original Rec Room downtown but never got around to it, yesterday was the perfect opportunity to check out the Mississauga location. We had a table reserved for 25 people and we were lucky enough that they put the table right in front of their big screen for us to witness history. They have plenty of tables and seatings to hold at least 300 people in their dining area plus patio. I noticed that they have an axe throwing area and VR game located on the upper level near the mall entrance side. The axe throwing you need to reserve time slots with the front of house staff as well as pay extra to play. On the sign I read $37 per person for an hour and $4 per person to sample 5 axes. The VR game is $35 per person also require a reservation with the front desk. Then there are the arcade games and points game where you collect points to trade up for prizes later on. In the end I never really played any games mainly just drinks, some food and to watch the Raptors take the division championship. I have to give it to our server for being fairly quick to bring our table our drinks and food on this super busy night she did a wonderful job. Their drinks and food prices are very reasonable and not too expensive. The burger was good I got the Three10 Burger and that was amazing but not for the light hearted, this monster comes with 2 beef patties, cheddar cheese, bacon, 2 fried eggs sandwiched between a soft brioche bun. Heart attack waiting to happen but totally worth it. I found that the selection of games do not match up to Dave and Busters. But The Rec Room does have a few things that D&B doesn't offer and like I mentioned above Axe throwing, VR game, and also a few lanes of bowling downstairs in the game area. There is also a stage for performance that they call "The Hall" and their guest last night was Choclair. He did a few songs after the Raptors game which was cool. I think I would definitely be back for their food and drinks and try out the arcade as I purchased a game card loaded with money that I didn't really use. read more

More like a -5 The most terrible experience I have ever had in my life. Terrible terrible terrible! Service is beyond disrespectful and humiliating! The place is huge and beautiful, but empty, I went there on a Thursday lunch time and it was only me at the bar, and one table with 5 guys in the entire place, mind you the place is massive, they're fully staffed with managers on site, YET, no service is to be seen. I asked for menu from a host/supervisor, never got it. I asked the bar tender as I sat at the bar, I ordered my beer and food, the food took about 30 minutes, it was just a burger with a side of salad, again the place was empty. I get my burger, it's burnt and disgusting, I try to locate the bar tender so he gets me my bill, the guy is no where to be seen. I needed to pay and get out of there to go to a very important business meeting! I asked that supervisor again who went to look for him, Then I asked another team leader who again couldn't find him, then a manager, same freakin thing! The whole thing of me trying to pay took exactly 25 MINUTES, then the guy was still no where to be found! I asked the manager to just ring in the food as a new order and charge me already! I've been to the downtown location many times and have to say I was impressed by the square one location. (On a Sunday afternoon) it was not packed at all so it was very spacious and very few lining up requires for arcade games. There are some games that are unique to this location too! It seems they also have figured out their points and credit balances between the two locations so you just need to transfer it once to a "new system", get a new wristband and you're good to use at both locations. I actually primarily came to this location for axe throwing - did the 1 hour package. Logistically it was a bit unorganized in terms of how to sign in, when to pay etc but the staff that worked at the axe throwing were amazing! Very patient and super enthusiastic staff who were honestly more happy than we were when we finally sunk the axe in well. They really made the event enjoyable for everyone from their energy and tried their best to give pointers on improvement for the whole hour. They were also kind to let us use the other open lanes when there were no other groups so we all got to play more. They also explained the video that is viral online lately which makes axe throwing seem dangerous is due to that space not being regulation sized and the individual was standing way too close to the target. This place is terrible.. my friends and I decided to have lunch here.. the food is quite overpriced and mediocre at best... when we got to the table, our plates and glasses were extremely dirty which was a major turn off. It was quite dead and service was extremely slow, I definitely won't be back. read more

Review for the restaurant only, I did not play any games. Great place to hang out and have some fun on a Friday night. But, not a great place to eat. If you are looking for good bar food, this is not the place. We bought the cineplex dinner and a movie passes, which entitles you to 2 movie passes, 1 entree and 2 mains. You have to choose from a separate menu and there aren't too many options. We had an extra guest so ended up ordering a little from the regular menu. The pizza was super bland. Definitely used ketchup instead of pizza sauce as it was so sweet! The crabless cakes were clearly frozen and not cooked all the way through. The fried chicken sandwich was whatever. The edamame dip was the only one that was half decent. We had to ask a few times for water and the waitress kind of forgot about table. Mind you it was a Thursday night at 6pm, so there wasn't any rush and place was practically empty. We didn't bother looking at the dessert menu. WOULD GIVE THIS PLACE -10 if I could. Came in with a group of 7. The place was EMPTY and we were told the wait was 1 hour 45 min. Every single staff member was rude, non-attentive and disappointing. We had to cancel our food due to extremely long wait times. The staff refused to clean any dirty tables and our water glasses/appetizer plates were dirty. Asked to talk to manager who did not acknowledge any of the core service failure. DO NOT COME HERE. Save yourself the $$ and time this was the worst service experience I've ever had overall. read more

I've always wanted to go to the rec room in downtown Toronto but never got the chance. Something always came up whether it was the thought of being stuck in traffic for an hour or lack of parking I never ended up going. I was so excited when I heard they were opening a location on March the 18th in square one! So not only is there plenty of free parking, there all multiple other stores that are worth the visit! I went on opening day around 6pm. The place looks AMAZING. Upstairs there is a restaurant, axe throwing, virtual reality and downstairs there are all the games you can image along with a mini stage and bowling and a bar. And you can earn/redeem scene points!!!! It's literally one of those spots you can spend all day in. Staff was super friendly and informative, I'm going back Friday and taking my colleagues. What a great spot! We had a party of 4 ahead of the Blue Jays game. We got there at about 5:30 and there was already a couple of corporate functions going on. The place is huge so it really didn't matter but it did give me an idea for a team building event for my company. Carmen was our server and she rocked! She told us she was one of the original staff and it showed. Food was way better than expected too. I had a spicy chicken sandwich (amazing) and my wife had the falafel wrap. One of our guests had the rotisserie chicken which looked great but next time I'll try the pizza because it looked terrific. We'll be back for sure. read more

Be ultra alert that carrying an uncle tetsu bag with take home food is enough to warrant two security guards escorting you from the premises. There will be no understanding that you will not be consuming the food on the premises and no refunds available for remaining credits as they walk you out of the building. First time I visited Rec Room, it was filled with people on a weekend so I decided to go back on weekdays. No one else is there 'til 12nn. I had salmon sandwich with avocado and fries on the side. Loved the fries. It was crispy and so tasty! Salmon was delicious as well. But I think a better dressing would match it. Apple juice has a unique taste as well.
