View right outside back door of condo #5 on the river
    Jamie H.

We stayed in one of the condos (#5) on the river, and it was by far the best choice! It's a quaint little one bedroom condo, with a kitchen and bathroom. The family room has a fold out couch and a TV, but we never even turned the TV on. If you had kids, this place can sleep 4 comfortably-2 people in the queen sized bed, and 2 on the fold out couch. I wouldn't suggest trying to fit more than that. I also am very particular about cleanliness, and was very pleased with how clean everything was. I loved that we could walk out the back door and see the river about 15 feet away. Beautiful! The staff was also very friendly. We also dined at the restaurant that is adjoined to the main building, and had a great meal. It is pricy ($30-$40 a plate), but well worth it if you are looking to spend that much on dinner. My husband had the bison and I had the chicken and we both ate every last bite. There aren't any vegetarian items on the menu, but I heard another customer ask if they had any, and they were able to accommodate her vegetarian request. We made 7pm dinner reservations and ended up getting a seat next to the window facing the river. It didn't appear reservations were needed as there were a lot of empty tables, but we were wondering if making the reservation helped with getting a good table. The lodge itself is located within walking distance to the main part of town. Lots of cute shops and other dining options. When we come back, we will definitely be staying here again, and requesting the same room!

The main building. It has 5 rooms on the middle floor. The top floor is one large suite with a kitchen and two rooms. Very quaint.

It felt like stepping into real life Parent Trap's Camp Walden (not just for girls)! The mountain and lake views were spectacular. We especially loved hanging out at the pool and hot tub area. The main office has some wooden swings to hang out and enjoy the view as well. The Nuptial Knoll was gorgeous and we were told there was an "unpaved path" to get there... it was more of a hike so don't wear heels! We stayed in the "historic full cabin with 2 queens" and just so you know - there is 1 door to 1 of the bedrooms, the other queen bed is located in an open space kind of like where a living room would be. Just something to note depending on what kind of privacy you're looking for. The 2 "bedrooms" share a bathroom. It was also VERY hot. We were there during a heat wave apparently and it was in the 80s during the day, so the cabin really heated up and there is no AC. The fans provided little relief from the heat. There is no breakfast but they have a restaurant and a bar serving coffee. Also, something else to note is the altitude shortness of breath! Our cabins were located higher up on the hill so walking back up was a chore each day. Overall, a beautiful resort!

We stayed one night with our window open and blinds open just to get a little air in the burning up room. Our room was at the top of the stairwell where everyone going up or down could see into our room, but if we would have closed the shades or window it would have been too hot even on top of the cover where we stayed. We could only stay one night even though I had booked four. The owner refused to reimburse any of my money. He actually said if I checked out by 10am and someone else booked it he would give some of my money back, but when I checked out before 10am they didn't even list the room on the sites. I am guessing they probably found a way to rent it and also take my over $1000 for three more nights. I feel like the owner is a con man! The room is truly ugly. ex: old green tile shower from the 60's... The view is beautiful, the staff is sweet and the location on the boardwalk is great, but in July it needs AC! It never advertised that it did not have AC like other places ex: YMCA hotel. Please do not fall into the same trap I did. It cost me over $1000 on my every five year anniversary with my wife to find out.

Well, I can say that we had a fantastic stay and Donny, the owner, was marvelous. It's close to all the restaurants, coffee shops and ice cream shops in the area, making it incredibly convenient. Plus, Donny is opening his own restaurant soon in the lodge. Our room was clean and cozy. The bathrooms are very small but functional. There was a portable radiator in our room to keep the temperatures warm throughout the night. The room is also equipped with a microwave, mini fridge, and coffee maker. Take advantage of the outdoors fireplace at night. Donny was super nice and provided us with marshmallows. He also has bikes parked outside that we borrowed for free. It's a great idea to bike around town if you have some extra time during the day.

The fire pit was so relaxing and they sell beverages on the outdoor patio. It is an "old school" hotel so it doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it was clean and that, to us, is the most important thing. If you're up here to get away and just enjoy the lake and town you will not be disappointed. The owners are fun to talk with as well.

The bathrooms and showers (in the front) are so clean and well appointed. It shows they care. They even had granite countertops!! We loved seeing the horses every day and they were very happy to see us when we had carrots and apples to share. The WRR is close to the lake and town. Also a good location for exploring Granby, Fraser, Winter Park and more. The people that work there are all great. Pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. We will be back.

It's also a 5 minute drive to Grand Lake and horseback riding. The town is definitely on "mountain time" meaning they start shutting down when it gets slow, or just before nightfall. THE RANCH: The ranch in general does have a lot to offer and it appeared that it's mostly used for weddings. They have a basketball court, volleyball court, kids play area, petting area with various farm animals, indoor pool, workout area, kitchen area, gazebo, fishing stream, 2 bridges, yard games, s'mores fire pit, BBQ grills, and a ton of places for photo ops! There were also several cabins throughout the ranch of various sizes that could hold families of 4-5 in each cabin. I think there were close to 15 different cabins to stay in. PROS: We really liked being on the ranch and got to spend some great quality family time doing family events on the ranch. We fished, rode horses, played BB, cornhole, and a few other yard games. We also saw a large Moose and her baby grazing about 100m from our cabin. It's really common to see Moose in the area, but it was a special treat to see her with her baby. We also saw humming birds and tiny chipmunks around all cabins each day. CONS: For 2 days we became overwhelmed by mosquito's. It got so bad that they called in a local company to fog the area with repellent to help kill them. The fogging did help and significantly reduced the number of mosquito's in the area. The rooms, bedding, beds, bathrooms, and cabins in general are nothing to brag about. They are old, and in need of big updating. I tried not to let this cloud my judgement about the ranch as a whole because we were there to enjoy the outdoors but it would have been nice to come back to a nice room and shower at the end of the day. If their main focus is a wedding venue, I was expecting to be in a much nicer cabin, especially considering they cater to people on one of their most memorable days. The cell phone coverage in the area is very hit and miss. Overall, the family and I enjoyed our time here and made some great memories!!
