Haven't been to The Range in quite a while - like a couple of years - but having recently moved back to the neighborhood, we decided to try it again for a weekday lunch. It was a mixed bag of responses from our group, seated past any lunch rush in a nearly empty dining room. A day after St. Patrick's day, I tried a special of Beef Stew. I found it was . . . meh at best, A little too salty for my taste, and it seemed to be getting down to the end of it. One potato wedge, 2 carrot slices, a few bobbles of stew beef and a lot of thick, over-salted stew. The accompanying wedge of soda bread had 2 hefty butter slices that couldn't save the dryness, but Irish soda bread is always a hit or miss prospect. On the other hand, a takeout Wedge Salad had everything I could dream of putting on a wedge of iceberg, accompanied by a healthy piece of delicious salmon that was cooked perfectly. A Reuben sandwich was full and seemed to please one of our party- the most difficult one to please - and the giant pile of french fries that cozied up to it looked like twice-cooked salty goodness. The third in our party had a simple Garden Salad that, like the Wedge, looked like it was a good salad. Coffee was good, and served alongside a little tray of a petite creamer, sugar and a single spoon was just a simple but sweet touch on a gloomy day. For me, the standout was the responsive waitstaff- servers were professional, informative about the menu and friendly without being overly pushy to order - the best combination. Overall, it was good and probably would be a lot better with more careful menu choices next time. And I'll definitely return for another Wedge Salad! read more

Heard lots of positive things about this place,. Had to see for ourselves. My wife wanted to try a driving range before committing to playing golf as a new hobby. Great spot. Recently visited the Range for the first time after driving by regularly, and am sorry we waited this long to try it out! The parking lot was completely full with cars overflowing onto the side of the main road outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I can't imagine how crazy it is on the weekend. We got on the waiting list after finally finding parking, and it was about 45 minutes until we got a table. No complaints though since it was the perfect amount of time for my husband to hit the driving range, and there's a little outdoor bar where you can grab a drink while you wait. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's lots of indoor and outdoor seating, and while there were people of all ages drinking, golfing, or enjoying a meal, it's all definitely very family-friendly with lots of kids running around.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food itself was actually better than we expected, though a bit overpriced. I get the sense people are really coming here for the golf and the vibes more than anything else. Since that's what we were expecting, we were pretty satisfied with the quality of the wings, fried haddock sandwich, and strawberry salad we split. I also tried the Cool As a Cucumber cocktail and was super happy with it. Not too sweet and nice and refreshing on a hot day sitting outside. Always a fave place for my gf and i to have a drink. We've been to the RANGE a bunch of times. Usually very good, no complaints. Last night we were there to celebrate a birthday. 6 of us. The waitress Laura, was not engaged, not paying attention and quite abrupt and almost rude when we asked anything of her. My friend ordered a COCO LOCO and it came with a hair in it. We get that can happen anywhere. Her response was to blame everyone and then take 20 minutes to get a new drink, to then CHARGE US for both. She was not friendly, she wasn't sorry about either of those inconveniences. Clearly, she isn't interested in her job and certainly not interested in customer service. read more

Very cool spot. Especially if you can get a seat outside! Or if you are using the driving range. I've been here many times over the years for both private functions and regular dining. Every time I've had a great time and the food has been consistently decent... On my most recent visit, I came here for dinner with friends. We started with the nachos, which were much better than expected! The chips were smothered in an ample amount of delicious toppings and a cheese sauce (not just plain shredded cheese) but were somehow not soggy at all. Everyone at the table raved about how good they were! For my entree, I ordered the baked haddock and let me tell you, this is one of the BEST baked haddocks on the South Shore (and I've had a lot of them!). The fish tastes fresh (not frozen) and the buttered breadcrumb topping is delightful. The broccoli that came with it was also delicious and cooked perfectly, however the rice was surprisingly bad - I thought it had a terrible flavor! The waiter brought us nachos that were literally black. They were beyond burnt. The fact they even tried to pass this off as acceptable is amazing. But then chiicken sandwich might be the grossest food item I have ever eaten ever. Honestly, it tasted like cat food. It was smooshy, wet and broke apart like cat food. My wife tried it and spit it out. It was nothing even close to chicken. And sadly, we tried this place several times and it is always the same awful experience. We come here all the time for the golf range since we live right next to it. Never a fan of their food, but it's fine since we're usually there just to have a drink and snacks. So yesterday we were there with a group of more then 30 ppl celebrating a friend's 50th birthday. We called couple time, and confirmed that we couldn't make reservation for outside sitting, its first come first serve. Ok, so we arrived and were told all the outdoor sittings were reserved! So no reservations but all reserved! The manager didn't even TRIED to help us and giving an attitude like"I don't even want you guys here" So we ended up paying a bill over $800 for some drinks and snacks, and changed our destination where was way more welcoming! I have to say most of the servers are great, but the host team and manager sucks and needs to be well trained or changed! read more

Awful driving range. There is no putting green. Maybe the food is decent, but you can't really call this a practice facility.

Walked beck to the same guy, got a ticket for him and put her hands back in pockets and chated it up. 10 minutes at least! So we left, told the hostess what happend and that was that, went elsewhere for an entirely different, much more pleasant experience! Think we'll pass on The Range for awhile! I expected so much more from this place. Looked nice online and the menu was decent although prices seemed on the high side. Let's start by saying this place is LOUD and filled with little kids. If you are looking for family friendly this is your place. If you want a nice night out with the spouse to talk this is the wrong spot. No wait at all and tons of seating. Waitress was pleasant. Food was just OK. Sirloin was $40, bland and overpriced. Chicken Caesar salad was ok but for $25 it should have been phenomenal and loaded with chicken. It wasn't. Came here on a Friday night and although parking was brutal, we were quickly greeted and seated outdoors by the driving range. Food: The apple rosemary BBQ wings were juicy and tender, recommended for those interested in bbq flavor. For entrees, we ordered hot chicken sandwich, range chicken sandwich, and steak tips. The fish tacos were delicious and our first round of drinks were good. However, our server did not check on us once past delivering our meals and we were never offered another round in the entire hour at our table. We went inside hoping for better bar service and it took us 15 minutes to be seen. I ordered a drink outside that was delicious, and ordered the exact same thing inside - tasted like battery acid and did not have mango, the main ingredient, in it. Last night we came to the Range to celebrate my husband's birthday with our seven year old son. On arrival we checked in with the hostess and were told to sit outside, the wait time would be 15mins. We agreed to wait. After waiting for 35mins I noticed guests who had come in after us were now being seated before us. I approached the hostess desk to ask would it be much longer for a table and pointed out to her that the guests she had just seated had come in after us. She quickly responded with "Yes that's true but they are VIP guests because they have friends working here"! I was in total disbelief she would say such a thing. We were totally treated unfairly and disrespectful. We refused to stay and left with a very upset seven year old boy who had been so excited to have dinner and play at the driving range with his Dad. I did ask to speak to a manager who was not helpful at all. In actually fact she told me those guests were on an online wait list and the hostess had misinformed me. It's true, though - a massive full-service restaurant and bar with a killer al fresco scene overlooking the namesake driving range and those looking to pummel it with buckets of balls The first time we came here, we made a huge mistake and sat inside. If the weather permits, you have to plop it outdoors, friendo - it's a game changer for the experience, as the food was hit or miss. Same with cocktails; solid beer list with a lot of local stuff. Normally I only like a couple things when it's a small menu but I can't wait to come back and try the rest! Fun for two reasons: the patio and the driving range! Makes for a fun date on a summer evening. Each table is given crispy chips and French onion dip- a total slam dunk!!! I ordered the lobster roll (a special) and was not super impressed, but overall good. Made on a crispy bun that reminds me of the texture of Texas toast, the sandwich was stuffed full of decent lobster. It did not have much flavor though. The sweet potato fries (that I ordered for an up charge) were the shining star of my meal. The coleslaw was also pretty good- not too much mayo. I've been here about three times so far and get the same thing every time. The steak tips are amazing so why try anything else ? This review is not for the food but for the service. We had Tim as our waiter today and I just have to say. He made the night. I didn't want to go out tonight but we had a group of friends relying on us to go so I felt I had to. Tim brightened my dull, tired after work mood to a full socialite mood. He was attentive, personable , and committed. This great place is lucky to have someone like Tim. The high point is that there is a nice outdoor area with TVs and heaters that has a view of the range and sunset. I had the steak and cheese it was tasty, I had sweet potato fries, they were like churros they were so good. Hubby had the tuna melt, he said it was good. The sangria was awesome. I would have give 5 stars but we waited a lot for our waitress, she seemed too busy, then we were charged for two beers that weren't ours. Just got back from having dinner there. First of all this is our 2nd time here. First time, we had seats at the bar but barely got acknowledged so we finished our drinks that we had to flag down our waitress to get and left. Tried again tonight and so disappointed. Hubby got sliders which were an appetizer but they were pastrami sliders. Look at the photo I took of them. Seriously, where's the beef??? I ordered a portabello vegetable medley sandwich and it was good but needed help. I had to use the sauce from the chips and dip sauce we had. The waitress recommended getting the pesto sauce that is homemade there on it next time. We know the chef from there has moved over from another location and we loved their food so we were excited to follow him. Not sure what happened, but everything Michael produced at the GSG restaurant was fabulous. My husbands words as we were driving home tonight was, "it's going to be a while before we go back there". I'm so bummed out that the 2nd time we've been there we didn't have a good experience. Our waitress was great....this time, last time the waitress was terrible. Great outside area. 2nd time here today. First time had a fish sandwich, it was very good. Fries are ok. Sat at the bar. Remember talking with my wife how the bar could use a good cleaning. We were at the end of the bar, near the wall, far away from the beer taps. Today the bar was full, about 2:45pm, so we sat at the other end, by the beer taps. Swarm of fruit flies. Moved over a couple seats. The sun was shining brightly thru the windows, making every fly visible. There were several. All over the bar fruit, but mostly congregating on the drip tray under the beer taps. It was disconcerting. Had the fish sandwich again, it was quite good. Wife had nachos and loved them. We tried staying for more drinks, but the fruit flies were everywhere. On the bar, on the stacks of plastic cups next to the beer taps, on the taps, on the drip tray. Bartender heard us talking about the flies (I think) and wiped down the drip tray. Didn't help. The bar needs a THOROUGH CLEANING! All I could think of was John Taffer of Bar Rescue, screaming SHUT IT DOWN!!! When the bartender slid open the cooler door beneath the beer taps, a curtain of fruit flies flew up and swarmed around the taps, and settled when she left. That was it. We got a check and left. Was gonna say something on the way out, but nobody was at the host stand when we left. Like I said, food was pretty good. But if the PUBLIC VIEWABLE area is this dirty and fly-infested, makes one wonder what the private kitchen is like. Sorry, good fish sandwich or not, crossing this place off the list. This place is so fun! It has a huge range area to golf, offering a two story cover area as well as u covered in front of the outdoor seating area for the restaurant. You can bring you drinks outside and sip while you practice swinging. The restaurant offers outdoor seating, tables as well as a few lounge chairs to hang out at. I sat inside, the restaurant is really open with a view of a TV from every seat. The menu had serval options within each section: Apps, soup/salad, entrees, and sandwiches. All looked delicious. We got the buffalo tenders for an app which were really crispy with a medium spice buffalo flavor- two thumbs up. I also got the fish tacos which were huge! The mango chipotle salsa on it was probably one of the better mango salsas I've ever had. My friend ordered the steak tips which looked really good too. The potion was huge, enough to fill you up and have enough to take home for a second meal. The offer complimentary chips and dip which was really different. It tasted like a French onion dip - which I loved! At every table they offered a USB outlet which I thought was really cool and different too. Over all great experience! Good food, lively atmosphere (especially in the summer), but TERRIBLY slow service. I have two kids under two - I have gone here many times just myself and the kids and they do not make an effort to pick up the pace whatsoever. The servers are very nice, and there are always plenty of people working, but they all seem to care more about puttering and standing around. It's not the worst when it's the summer and my kids can run around outside, but we've been on numerous occasions where it takes a full 30 minutes for someone to take our order. And then another 50 minutes (at least) for said food to come. It's could be very kid friendly, the menu is great - but my kids can't sit still for almost 2 hours just for lunch. read more
