I came in with zero experience, having never so much as touched a gun, but with the hope of learning to shoot so I could concealed carry for self defense. I took two personal instruction lessons with Sam, and he was absolutely wonderful!! I was very nervous, and he was so patient and helpful. He even went over my allotted time to make sure I had enough time to get comfortable shooting. I really appreciated his emphasis on safety and his patience with me when I was overwhelmed. He immediately noticed and politely corrected every mistake I made (and there were a lot), and encouraged me to challenge myself a little when he felt I was ready. After my second lesson yesterday, I talked to Sam about purchasing my own pistol so I could practice with the one I would actually be using. I was considering a new Glock 42, but he pointed me towards a used Sig Sauer P365 380. The whole team was SO helpful throughout the process and helped me get an amazing deal!! I really appreciate that he wanted me to get a gun that he felt was a better fit for me instead of encouraging me to get a new one so I would spend more money. He was genuinely interested in and concerned about making sure I got something good quality that I would be comfortable using. It's clear that everyone who works here cares about each other and truly loves what they do, and it makes for a really awesome environment. I want to write an update for The Range at Ballantyne because it's been a minute. The customer service is still excellent. They always have someone available to answer questions or check you in for a reservation and walk in for the gun range. The store is always well maintained and stocked. The gun range itself is well lit, has different ranges for pistols and rifles and is well maintained. If you get a Groupon which I suggest then you save more money and you'll get a target, eyewear, and hearing protection included. Wouldn't recommend , walked in Saturday to check rates for military/veterans. Approached by one of the staff and asked about rates, then asked for a flier. Gentlemen walked around to 2-3 different areas, then asked a guy who appeared to be the Mgr. He looked in a folder, phone rang, he answered. This is an updated review based on facts I received from the owner. Many thanks. I have become a fan of The Range. During the quarantine, The Range stayed open and it is the best concerted effort to keep it healthy that I have seen. Staff asks you to make a reservation. But usually they are not crowded in their three shooting bays, so come on down. When I arrived last week there was only one car in the parking lot. Entering, you will be amazed at how spotlessly clean the place it. Very neat and tidy...inspection ready. Since I have been there before, I just paid and was assigned a firing station. In conversation with staff, I was told that the air is circulated 100% every 3 minutes! And you notice that when firing, as the powder cloud rapidly disappears. The 5-station shooting bays are set up with the two end firing points taped off, plus the middle firing point. That puts at least 8 feet distance between you and any other shooters. Again, very Corona safe. Previously, there were complaints about ammo prices and rude staff members. Not so any more. I think they got the message and straightened those situations out. It is a nice, professionally run, safety-oriented gun range. I will be returning. Good work Brian, Steve and staff. read more

Had a Groupon for this range. Had a pleasant experience. The staff was very helpful and answered any questions I had. I was very nervous for my first time but become more comfortable when one of the staff members came in the shooting room and helped me out. I had fun. I will come back. Bright and well lit showroom with several cases of pistols and a few displays of long guns available for purchase but I already have all the hardware I need, thanks. (Don't tell my wife that or she'll hold me to it.) The pistol range is nice and airy with decent insulation and baffling so that you're not constantly sucking down cordite and pressuring your ear drums with gunfire. Nice target retrieval system that worked quite well and I liked the walls of the pistol bay to keep the guy's .45 next to me from being too loud. Clean floors and easy sweep for brass. Range prices are a little high at $19/hour but it is what it is. They have a pretty healthy collection of range pistols that can be rented for a few bucks too. I only wish this place was closer to me. *sad face* read more

Safe, clean range that has everything an indoor range would have. The staff are all incredibly polite and helpful. Every once in a while, you'll get some people who are new to shooting and likely saw it on Groupon. The range officers keep a close eye on them and make sure they are safe and following the range rules. They also have special events, like bowling pin shoots. Those are really fun. The ammo may be a bit pricey compared to online or store ammo, but that goes for pretty much every range in existence. It's no different than movie theater popcorn vs. store bought popcorn. They do get busy on the weekends and occasionally have long waits. The price isn't exactly cheap, at least compared to ranges in Texas, but is the same or cheaper than the other ranges in the area. If you plan on visiting even semi-frequently, I would suggest getting a membership. The only downside would be the staff will occasionally say XM855 is banned. I have no idea if it is or isn't banned, seeing as how they used to sell it there. They obviously don't allow steel core .308, since it's an indoor range. They do allow steel cased ammo, unlike some other ranges in the area. read more

Our first time here. We tried this place as it is close to our home and we had a groupon, which by the way are REALLY popular! This place was great. After filling out some paperwork and watching a safety video, you are all set. We came with our own guns on this occasion but they do have a wide range of guns from small to big that you can rent. Facilities are clean, various targets to choose from and you are able to choose desired shooting distance. Staff are very knowledgeable and if you have any questions, just ask. I ordered a gift card to The Range at Ballantyne via their website on Monday, July 6 at 6:57 pm for a friend who was celebrating his 90th birthday on Sunday, July 12. The website stated the turn around time for processing gift cards was 24 hours. I assumed I would have received the gift card through the mail by Friday, July 10. Since the gift card was not delivered on Friday, July 10, I called The Range at 1:21 pm to see what the status was on the gift card being sent out. Unfortunately, I had to leave a message. A gentlemen by the name of Keegan returned the call on the same day and left a message at 4:30 pm stating the person (he didn't even know tech's name) said it was already sent out. Keegan, just to let you know for future reference, the tech's name is Brian. Keegan stated, "The mail is slow these days because of everything." I didn't believe his message for a second. They did not do their job. PERIOD!! I never received the gift card on Saturday, July 11. Do you know how embarrassed I was not to include the gift card in my friend's Birthday card on July 12??? The gift card was delivered to me on Monday, July 13 without any processing date on the envelope. So I didn't know what actual date it was mailed. DARN!!! The valuable lesson I learned from The Range is that I will NOT order any gift cards from The Range every again. I can't trust them nor I ever will. read more

Beautiful location and immaculate facility. The only downside is the prices they charge. If you don't get a membership shooting a la carte, so to speak, can be quite expensive. If I remember correctly it was almost twice as much as where I go regularly , CSA. They also only have a Military/LE discount on a specific day which isn't a huge deal but some ranges offer that no matter what as long as you have a valid Id. The gunsmithing prices are atrocious. The charge for installing a set of sights for a glock was $45 and up to two weeks of waiting time. Sorry but are you $&&?!!? Kidding me!! 45 dollars for what?! Up to two weeks wait for what ?! You can go to Hyatt's and get sights installed for 25 bucks. Most times if you buy the sights there, they install it for free. I believe Ballantyne will install for free if you buy the sights there however. But for 45 bucks and a two week wait time I declined , ordered a sight tool and screw driver from Amazon for 40 bucks, and removed and installed my own sights in 10 minutes. There is absolutely no reason why a customer should have to leave their Gun overnight for up to two weeks to get sights and then pay 45 dollars on top of that. There was no one else in line or really there for that matter. Hyatt's does this same day unless you have many people ahead of you. To get sights installed should be first come first serve period. And no more than 20 bucks imo. It's just too simple of a job for MOST firearms. read more

LETS TALK ABOUT 'THE RANGE AT BALLANTYNE'. (This is long) I was planning a surprise party for my husband (there were a total of 6 men that came from all over the US). I was having a HUGE surprise party later that night and his best friends were a diversion so we could prepare for the BIG party that night. So, my friend and I walked into 'THE RANGE AT BALLANTYNE' to inquire about a couple hours of shooting, we wanted to reserve a few lanes. We were abruptly interrupted by the manager of the facility and he advised us "there are no reservations"...ok cool. Then we asked how busy the facility was on a Saturday (specifically the 15th), and he said "your wait could be a couple hours".....ok fine. Then I asked "How much are the lanes per hour?" He said "that information is online".....I asked "how much does it cost to rent the guns?" His response, "that information is online".....can you tell me how much ammunition is "that information is online and it depends on the gun". So....my point. I took time out of my day to go inside and get information so I could provide my husband with an amazing day and all he could say was "that information is online".....he didnt want to help me at all. He was not interested in my business at all. I didnt know what to do....long story longer I asked around and found this place: http://csaguns.com. THEY WERE FREAKIN AMAZING!!!!!!! From the 1st phone call to the men arriving on the 15th AHHHHMAZING. They accomodated them, they were friendly and all the boys had a blast. The surprise party went off without a hitch. I email the company to cancel my monthly membership, the owner and COO Brian Sisson replies that it's cancelled and I respond a simple "thanks". As soon as we walked in we were greeted and given clear instructions on what to do. The process to get started was quick and easy. They show you how to use the gun before going back into the shooting area but once back there there is a call button you can use to have an instructor come back and help you. The instructors were very friendly and extremely helpful! You can adjust how far away your target is by using a button on the wall which was very useful. I have shot in different scenarios before but never in an indoor range. My wife and I both had groupons and experienced nothing but nice attitudes and good people. They were super helpful talking to my wife about trying different rentals so we wouldn't waste our groupons. The range is clean and very well ventilated. The do not allow rapid fire so it is good for new shooters to feel comfortable. The rifle range is 25 yds but you can still shoot pistols on it too! I will be back and I will continue to shoot here when I want a nice controlled environment to shoot and be safe! I recommend this range to anyone! read more

I took my 12 yr old grandson to the range for his first shoot. My friend Bob acted as instructor. From the time we arrived until we left it was a great experience. Since I was a non-shooting observer, I could watch through a window. Grandson Maxx and Bob shot from the range right in front of the window. Since there were few shooters Richard made sure they had that range to themselves. That made it very comfortable for a somewhat nervous kid. Richard made the sign up, video watching and protective equipment dispensing go extremely smooth. Maxx was pleased as punch with the outting and came away with a very positive attitude towards the shooting experience. When you walk in...stop and get signed in! This includes signing the waiver and getting your payment info in the computer. I didn't see any signs and no one stopped to tell me before I went all the way to the shooting range. Allow yourself 30 minutes if it's your first time to sign in, watch video, have your guns checked and general info. You can not bring ammo in unless it's in the original packaging. I heard some pricing on the ammo there and it didn't seem too far out of line. Two people, same firing lane, rifle/handgun lane and 5 targets was $39 for an hour. Place is laid out well with plenty of guns throughout the large showroom. Prices on guns are a little more expensive than I've seen. They have a lounge area to sit down. At this point I've been to every indoor range in Charlotte and the surrounding areas. After being so impressed with Carolina Sporting Arms and Blackstone I showed up at TRaB expecting similar levels of quality. I was disappointed. Reviews appear to be in 2 different camps. People who are new to shooting probably don't see the problems with The Range because they focus on only safety. This is absolutely what every range should be focused on! To be clear, TRaB provides a perfectly safe place to shoot which is paramount. But for people who are more experienced, or those who become regulars, eventually you do have to consider other things like price, fairness, and how you treat your customers. This place is mind-blowingly overpriced for what they have in stock, though range time is roughly in line. I've had mixed experiences with range officers - some who correctly left me the heck alone to shoot and teach a friend and others who decided it was a good idea to butt in. Indoor ranges are already stress soups compared to outdoor ones, and having an RO interjecting his opinion constantly is beyond annoying when you've been shooting for more than a decade. Finally the policy on "only sealed ammunition" is absolutely untenable. I only buy FMJ ammo but the brand varies and I expect my firearms to eat whatever I feed them for the most part. If you have an ammo can with loose rounds or you've loaded up your magazines to avoid wasting time reloading at the range congratulations - you've just incurred another "gotcha" price change getting their ammo and wasted even more time getting rung up and reloading your magazines. It's got nothing to do with safety and everything to do with a price grab. No other range I've ever been to has ever had a policy like this. Long story short, I won't be back. read more

This is a place to shoot and learn to shoot. If you need minor help they are there. If you need a little more guidance than most, you can pay for some private lessons or to take a class at your skill level. The range is nice, but we went with a group of 8 guys. They put us in 2 seperate rooms. There were enough lanes open in one room and the guy at the back counter was very rude, acted like he was doing us a major favor the even be there and would not let us move be into a room together. He was very rude to everyone not just our party. How do people who act like this even have jobs? I will not return to this location because of him. read more

I have just called the Range and enquired about their special on the Taurus Spectrum. I spoke to a lady who was very rude and impatient and while I like to support local businesses, I won't put up with this sort of behavior. I am semi-retired and have money to spend but won't be buying from their organization. I will order one from Bud's Guns, it's only $11.00 cheaper but I would gladly have paid the higher price if I, as a customer were treated as a "customer" and not someone doing their company a favor. Last month I was shopping around for an M&P compact 2.0 and called the Pineville Gun Shop to see if they matched prices because I had found it a little cheaper at another gun shop. I spoke with Brian who said that he could, but he would have to charge the fees the other gun shop charged. He told me that the price they had on their website was the price you pay, no additional fees, and that if I bought it online, I wouldn't have to pay sales tax. He told me he would send me a link to my email in case I was interested. The link was to The Range at Ballantyne, which also sells guns. I am pretty sure they have the same owners, but I could be wrong. Anyway, I proceeded to buy the gun online through the link Brian provided and as promised,and didn't have to pay sales tax. Unfortunately, I bought it the day before we had that snow storm, so I knew that would be a factor when it came to delivery. Brian was nice enough to send me an email confirming that the shipment would be delayed because of the weather. It did take a couple of days longer than when Brian had promised but that was due to Fed Ex and even though it wasn't The Range @ Ballantyne's fault, Brian gave me an extra month's membership at the range for for my inconvenience (If you buy a gun from them, you get a 1 month range membership for free). When I went to pick up my gun, I was greeted and helped by Freddie(awesome guy) who proceeded to do all of the paperwork and tell me about the range. Long story short, I have been going there almost daily and every single employee I have met has been nothing but awesome!! Everyone is very knowledgeable, accommodating, nice, and they even call me by name. Freddie, Ted, Richard and Joe are all awesome. There's always an opportunity to visit the range via Groupon, Living Social, employer benefits, or just showing up or giving the place a call to honor the Groupon & etc. rates. Even if you don't use one of those this place has some very low & competitive lane & rental gun fees, though I use most of my own which is never an issue. The staff is always super helpful & friendly as well as accommodating with beginner shooter up to the more experienced. Memberships, a lounge, & gun cleaning are offered as well as a ton of different gun models, holsters, & accessories. I shoot here as often as my schedule & travel allows.
