The course is challenging but not too difficult. I'd say a 3 out of 5. Greens were not difficult to read and they were not super fast. You'll find some slow golfers out there and no ranger to push people along. Also, you cannot book a tee time online which is the worse thing about this place. Would I go back? For sure! It's a great alternative to Emerald Lake.

I had been retired about a year and decided that I wanted to devote some time to playing golf. I've played on and off since I was about 14 years old but decided if I was going to play more frequently, I need to get some formal instruction. I signed up for an introductory lesson which went very well. Brent expressed the importance of first being able to make contact with the ball. We went through several drills where he had me use several clubs and just hit tees. He made a lot of sense to me and with some basic fundamentals I decided I was ready for the next steps. I purchased the package with four lessons. Brent's very good at listening to what you want to accomplish and assessing and evaluating your current game and then putting together a plan that works for you. One of the lessons was a full hour on his swing analyzer. I would highly recommend Brent, He is a certified PGA Golf Instructor. He has a professional manner and talks in easy to understand terms about the swing and the fundamentals of golf. He offers instruction to a variety of skill levels and provides instruction to a Junior team that competes in North & South Carolina.

On the campus of Winthrop University. This course was a gift…read moreto the University by JP Stevens textile company in 1963. It is a 9 hole course with a mix of par 5's, 4's and 3's. It's not very well maintained so don't have high expectations. There has been no one there to collect green fees since COVID struck in March of 2020. There are no cart rentals and no pull carts available. I understand that when there is an attendant on-site, the green fee is $10 for all day play. There are a three signs indicating distance. The rest of the signs are either torn down or missing. The tee boxes are terrible. They are marked but in very poor condition since they have not been maintained. The fairways are wide open and it plays about 2,600 yards. The greens are terrible and not maintained. There are a few bunkers but they are grown over with weeds. I've played this course twice and it's not crowded. You can easily play 9 holes in about an hour and 15 minutes. There is a chipping/pitching practice area close to the parking lot behind the 2nd green. You will see people walking on the course...with their dogs... and no golf clubs.
