Played this course with a group of 8 on 2/26/24. February…read moregolf in these parts can be a roll of the dice. We came up with a winning roll on a Monday with 71 degrees and sunny! This course is #3 on the B-Man's guide to the top 10 Charlotte area golf courses. It's a good course but a #3 seems overrated to me. Understanding it's February so granted, not ideal conditions. Still a problem when you have more than half an entire green surface under repair. You get only one Par 3 on the front and two on the back. The fairways are wide open and forgiving. The tee boxes all in good repair. You get the computerized electric golf carts. The check-in and Staff was smooth and everyone was nice. The bar/restaurant experience was good. As a Senior golfer, you get considerable tee advantage on most all of the holes. There is water but it doesn't come into play. They had patrolling Ranger maintaining pace of play. It is literally right adjacent to the Speedway. On several holes, you can see the Grandstands. I think you want to avoid this place on race day.

After 3 years of self guided lessons with every YouTube golf guru I was still struggling to be a consistent player. I came to Grant Gaugler III at golftec with a thin slice and never really knew where my ball would end up before I hit a shot. Not only does he have the experience as a competitive golfer to backup what he preaches but he is a natural teacher who really helps simplify concepts on top of just being an overall good guy. He helped me develop drastically better body mechanics while helping me understand why my "before swing" was leading to inconsistent results. There were definitely points of frustration on my part throughout the learning process and my swing is still a work in progress but after spending time working with Grant I feel 1,000x more confident stepping up to the ball. Not only am I not slicing the ball anymore, I'm even drawing it and noticing improvements across my entire game. It's been about 3 years since I wrote the first review here…read more I went on a Wednesday morning in early June and the place was packed with youngsters taking lessons. I rented a top tracer bay and a bucket of balls. The top tracer has been added since my first visit so I decided to give it ago. I've done top tracer before so I had some familiarity of how it works. It was only an extra $5 bucks. It tracks your ball speed, carry distance and roll out, launch angle and apex. It will also indicate your accuracy on a line of distance you set. I really liked it and would recommend it for just a practice session. The only down side is you're hitting off a mat and rubber tee. The guy at the service desk was challenging to communicate with. I had to ask him several times, phrased differently about HOW many balls are in a medium bucket. I was not able to putt because there were so many kids on the putting greens. I probably should have called ahead to see if it was 'lesson day' but I expect during the summer it's busy.

It's been six years since my last review and time for an update…read more My buddy/co-worker S Fulwider is always giving me grief about not being spontaneous. Today, I called him at 10a and told him we had a 1p tee time and he was ready to say 'yes' after he cleared the deck of the 'honey do list'. The traffic was thick North on I-77 from Fort Mill but no grid lock so we made it in 20minutes and still had time to hit a bucket of balls. Jay is 'still' there, he's a fixture at this place and has been for at least the last 6 years since I retired and started playing there. They are no longer under Radcliffe Management but under Troon. Their 'on-line' booking website is excellent. IF you're playing solo, you're REQUIRED to call and book. We made the 9 hole round in 1 hr, 45 minutes and it was busy. We had a slow three some walking in front of us. It's hard to beat the price on this muni when you can get a Senior AND Vet discount and play for less than $30 bucks. Fulwider was pleased with the experience except on hole #9, the finishing par 5, he swears a blacksnake ate his ball. Always a nice change of pace but at prime time, Friday to Sun you will be challenged to get a time time and pace of play.

Staff wasn't the most welcoming, but that was fine. Greens were in average condition, bunkers were in pretty poor condition, but given the price, that was expected.
