There's four reason I gave this gym five stars…read more 1. I come here to be healthy, not get sick. They have a cleaning crew that's here almost Everytime I come in (midmorning m,w,f). They're wiping down machines, cleaning windows, mopping floors, scrubbing toilets. Props to those people. 2. I am on a married-with-two-kids-and-one-more-en-route. For $20/month plus $10/month for childcare, you can't beat the price. That's $10 for all of my kids. If I come in for 5 hours a week 4 weeks a month that's $10 for 20 hours of childcare. .50c an hour, and the two women in the mornings love my kids and treat them really well. 3. Im a wannabe CrossFitter. So they have this cool area with trx bands, kettle bells and a bunch of fancy AstroTurf. I channel my inner Rich Froning and pump it up. 4. They listen to customer feedback. All of my other comments were tongue-in-cheek, but this one is legit. A few months ago they roped off my Annie Thorisdottir area and I was bummed. But they asked for customer feedback and I let em hear my complaints. Came in one week later and they've updated the AMRAP Central to be limited for just 4.5 hours a week for their class sessions. Really pumped and thankful. That's actually what led me to leave this review. 5. I know I said 4, but a bonus. Maybe it's because I'm in a thankful mood after Easter Sunday, but anyways... Their employees are kind and helpful. Really like them even though I hardly know them.

Starting a new workout routine is hard. Committing to a new gym and class schedule on top of that…read morecan be intimidating, too. However, the moment I stepped foot in Train Matthews, I was immediately met with warmth not only from Nic, but from many of the gym members as well. I've had memberships at several CrossFit-style gyms in and around Charlotte over the years, and it's been rare to find this level of support and genuine community. Beyond the great atmosphere, the coaching staff is top tier. They are proactive with form tips and instruction, and they've been incredibly helpful at seamlessly adapting workouts around any injuries that inevitably come up so I can keep training safely. The programming is well-rounded and has made a massive positive impact on both my physical fitness and my overall well-being over the past couple of years. Highly recommend!

This place has just the right antidote for a lazy 18 months. Coach Nic has a special talent for programming and driving people towards your goals. You can find all types of people here. Long time crossfitters to new bloods. Nic makes sure to tailor each workout as needed just like the Crossfit way. The small community is growing and support is everywhere. You cannot go wrong training here. It's the perfect fit for me, my wife, and my brother Kyle. I joined as soon as I find out who owned it. I drive last two Crossfit gyms to train here. It's the perfect mix of brand new equipment and warehouse to give you the mentality needed to dive into the workouts and push yourself.

I've been working with Michael at Shape Up for roughly a year and a half and I can't speak highly…read moreenough of my experience. When I came to him I was still dealing with pain from a shoulder surgery, I hadn't regularly worked out in over a year, and I had some bad habits from my time in the Army. From the start I was impressed. He took great care to remind me that doing things properly and painlessly was the goal, regardless of how much (or how little) weight was being moved. The workout plan during our sessions and outside of them has allowed me to be far more consistent and make the most of my schedule. His studio is outstanding, and the constant addition of new equipment and tools to help his clients always impresses me. The results are evident in the strength I've gained, and I'm in the best shape I've been in a very long time. Thank you Michael!

Shape Up Fitness & Wellness Consulting is a best kept fitness secret in Charlotte. They offer…read moretraditional and nontraditional ways to get fit in a still-expanding studio on Park Rd. I have received a wellness consultation there and participated in their bootcamp classes. You also have the option of one-on-one personal training where the attention is all on you and your fitness goals or you can opt for the bootcamp classes (what I did!) which are small groups between 5-10 individuals, where you will will feel like you are in basic training for the Army.:) My experience with bootcamp and trainers: The bootcamp exercises vary...sprints, jumping rope, circuits, abs, squats and more. It's truly one of those feelings where it hurts but feels good. You know what I mean? You know you are working hard but it helps get results. You can burn 700+ calories in just one session! The owner Michael (who also trains) and one of the trainers Tyson (she really works you out!!) really care about your fitness goals and they do not yell at you like in real basic training! In addition to training, Shape Up gives you nutritional tips and also has their own newsletter that includes articles based around fitness/nutrition, as well as a healthy recipe that helps you to stay the course. I know when I get it in my inbox, it helps me to stay on track! The prices are in line with other studios but the personal attention they give goes far beyond many fitness places.
