From the moment I stepped onto the grounds of this world class facility, I knew it was going to be an excellent day. Staff at the Main Office are professional and efficient. Direction to the ranges are extremely easy to follow; You can't get lost. I was amazed at how beautifully groomed and maintained the facility was. Staff up at the range were incredibly, professional, polite, welcoming and kind. Visitors were well behaved and acted appropriately. Overall, staff facilitates a family and safe atmosphere. Price point was extremely fair. Good value! I'm looking forward to my next visit. Impressed by my first visit to this facility, which appears to be a partnership between Cleveland County government and the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. Seems to be a well run partnership at first glance. Suggestion: prior to visiting, head to the website, watch the orientation video, and complete the online waiver. They'll have it waiting for you to sign at the office. The office is your first stop, where you'll sign the waiver (after watching the video, if you didn't already watch it online) and pay your fees. A single fee gives you all day access via wristband, and just a couple dollars more pays for the target stands you'll be using. One free target comes with the fees. Staplers and staples are provided free at each range. Office staff can answer your initial questions and get you in-processed quickly, then let the range officers know you're coming their way. Suggestion 2: weapons brought into the complex must be cased and unloaded. Do this before you arrive, and everything will go smoothly. Range officers are helpful, friendly, and not drill sergeants. Listen to them, follow their instructions, and enjoy the day. They've all got different personalities, of course; the Range 2 guys were pretty lackadaisical, while I appreciated the efficiency of the Range 3 crew. The facilities I saw were all clean and well equipped. Nothing fancy, mind you, but still far nicer than most of the public ranges I've seen. It's a shame there aren't more facilities of this caliber dispersed around the state. I certainly wish there were one closer to where I live. But going here was worth the drive. And for those of us who are veterans, there are discounts for visiting on weekdays. Maybe I can take advantage of that some time soon. read more

We attended a Glock Sport Shooting Foundation match here. It had to be the best put together match I've attended for GSSF in the past 20 something years I've been attending. From goodie bags, shuttles to/from parking and to stages. Vendors like no other. A little merchandise area. Super nice staff. Clean facility. Overall a good experience. First impressions upon arrival (first visit) - disconnected and disorganized. There was a line at the door to go to the range. No signage of Do's and Dont's. I had my firearms with me and by the time I got to the front of the line I was told no firearms are allowed in the first building (which you must go to pay your fees). So back to the car I go to drop things off and back to the end of the line I go. Maybe this is more of a local place and local crowds, but I drove 70 miles to get here so I can practice shooting with my new shot gun. Arriving at the counter to pay my fees, was a better experience and I was instructed with what I needed to do next. I arrived at my range and Roy was the range officer in charge. He was very helpful in getting me placed at the range and gave stern warnings of where to stand before I walked up to the spot. Once I was there, he was very helpful, which turned an initial negative experience into a positive one. read more

The closing time says 4:30. Drove 2 1/2 hours to get to the range just to sight in a rifle legally. Bought ear and eye pro to satisfy the needs of the range. I would think you would tell people the gate closes and hour early and last shots fired is 4:30. This shits crazy to me. Highly recommend this place five stars! read more

This is the best shooting complex by far...anywhere. Steve out at the skeet and trap center was the best. I had a problem with my shotgun and he assisted me in determining the problem and even gave me some recommendations and even suggested a facility to get some repairs done. One day I went and shot trap. Everyone was friendly, professional, and knew what they were talking about, etc. The facilities were clean and well kept. The range fees were really cheap. I had a great experience. About a week later, I showed up and tried to shoot on their rifle range. You have to qualify on the 50 yard range before shooting on the 200 yard range, which I suppose is reasonable. When I got there, the range was packed. It took almost an hour to get a lane to qualify to shoot. When I finally got a lane, the RO came and checked my ammo. That is when things began to go south. On one hand, I should've checked their ammo policy before I came. However, it's stupid that they don't allow steel core ammo (including M855). It's even worse that they don't allow M193, either. I had tons of steel core .308 and M193 for my guns. When I asked for the reason why, he said it penetrated the barriers between the lanes. I don't see the problem since most, if not all indoor ranges only have plastic or plywood between the lanes. Since I made the hour drive, I decided to go to a Walmart to buy some ammo. When I returned, one of the ROs was kind enough to give me the next open lane since I was there earlier. When the other RO was inspecting my guns to qualify for the 200 yard range, he strongly discouraged me from using irons on my PTR and AR. He said I should just shoot at 50 today and save up to buy a scope since I would "probably not qualify" with irons. He was extremely rude and almost wouldn't even let me. Finally someone stepped in and convinced him to let me try. I qualified with irons on both, but decided to go home as I was pretty angry at all of this. tl;dr - Fun, cheap place to shoot provided you comply with their stupid ammo policy and don't try to run irons with some ROs. read more

Went to this range Good Friday 2019. The range staff are very nice and safety oriented, which I like. The range is nicely built and kept clean and presentable. The safety procedures at the bays work well and are enforced. Unfortunately the day we went it rained with thunderstorms and lightning. They had to keep shutting the range down for safety with the lightening strikes. I will definitely go back and use the range again in the very near future hopefully when it's not raining. read more

I've been to Foothills only three times and I'm trying to get there more often. Every time I've been to Foothills I've had a great experience. One time it was pouring down rain and the range officer was very understanding and helpful. In fact, all the range officers I've met there have been very courteous and are all very strict with range regulations, a good thing. I shoot pistols and rifles and have no need to practice with high capacity rounds. They do have shotgun and archery ranges, but I have no interest there. The pistol range is spot on for me with steel targets and to the right of the steel targets is a plinking range, perfect for practicing with a .22 pistol and a LOT of fun with my boys. The 50-yard range is well kept and is also where you must qualify your rifles if you want to go to the 250-yard range. You need to write down your gun Model and Serial number on the qualification sheet and the range officer will sign and date it. You'll want to keep it in your range box or somewhere safe. I'm not positive on the time period, but I believe if you don't shoot again, at the 250-yard range for three months, you'll have to re-qualify your rifle. Check the time period out to make sure. I learned the hard way with three rifles setup at the long range and I could only shoot the one I just qualified. This is an hour ride for me and totally worth it. read more

The Foothills Public Shooting Complex is about an hour-long drive for me from Charlotte, and it is definitely worth it. It is a beautiful, brand new facility that offers shooters a lot of features for really low prices. The sign-in process, which includes watching a safety video, signing a waiver, getting an ID card made, choosing options, and making your payment, could have been a bit more streamlined, but the range just opened, and they are probably working out a few kinks. There are kiosks that allow visitors to make purchases, including range passes, targets, eye and ear protection, and souvenirs, with ease. The staff in the range office are very helpful, and they'll get you out to the range fairly quickly. Once you have your ID card, you can bypass the safety video and waiver part of the process on future visits. Every range is well-organized and well-staffed by Range Safety Officers who run a tight ship. Any unsafe behavior is immediately addressed, and visitors who are unsafe are asked to leave. The officers introduce themselves, check your ammo (no steel cases allowed), and make themselves available to assist in any way they can. There were at least two RSOs at each range I went to, and I appreciate their commitment to safety. I've been to a few sketchy ranges where the crazies seem to come out, and this is definitely not one of those places. There are a lot of different range options here. There are two 50-yard ranges, one pistol-only range with a combination of steel and paper targets, two skeet/trap and pistol ranges (combined), a 250-yard rifle range (still under construction when I went), a 3D archery course, and a bow practice area. You'll get a handy map at the range office to help you navigate. There's convenient parking at each of the ranges as well. There are also picnic areas, restrooms, and grills, so you can really make it a whole-day trip. Best Outdoor Range in this area! Foothills is a huge complex that features rifle, pistol, shotgun and archery ranges. The rifle ranges are a 50-yd range (practice and qualifying), and a 250-yd range. There's a picnic area (covered) with tables and grills that is adjacent to the 50-yd range. The pro-shop is well-stocked and has a lot of great items for sale. The staff, range-safety officers and patrons I've encountered have all been fantastic. I go to Foothills about once every few months...really wish we lived closer so I could go more often. The prices for range time, targets, etc are spot on and veterans receive a discount. I cannot recommend this place enough. Great range! read more

Amazing range and an even better staff. If you've been to different ranges you know how some RSO's can be and I can safely say this one isn't anything like that. The people that work here are extremely knowledgeable and safety minded without being overbearing. Outside of the staff they have a great layout with everything you could want int a range. We went by to personally inspect this Range and the lady we met and talked with about their policies was very nice and helpful. She answered all our questions promptly and politely about the facilities, so we planned to return to try the Range out at a later date. A few weeks later we'd thought of another question or two that needed asked, so I gave them a call. A woman picks up the phone and answers a question or two, then I said we'll be by to check the Range out. As soon as I said that, she replied asking me, if we didn't think their Range was nice ? How in the blue hill would we know what their Range was like ? We'd only been by to ask about procedures that happen when you come to these places ? I've personally never been to any Public Shooting Ranges, Indoors or Outdoors. I've been fortunate enough to know several people and have property of my own to shoot on. I'm from North Carolina and my Wife grew up in Texas, so we're very familiar with good manors and weapon use of all sorts. We've never put up with anyone breathing over our shoulders or checking our Ammunition just to shoot our Guns & Never Will. Reading a couple of these reviews this place has a troublemaker working at this Range or possibly more rude employee's there. Taxpayer monies paid for this Shooting Range, so these rude people working there need to watch the sarcastic mouths. So I give it two Stars, for what I do not know!! read more

The best gun range I have been at so far. I highly recommend it, especially for ladies. Not sure who organized and managed it that way, but it is a business model for any business, again proving that aside aviation, the shooting sport leads all. They have a professional staff making the safety and shooting conduct, rules and procedures a breeze. Where other ranges would seem picky or cumbursome and heavy handed, here the rules seem to be made to actually make things easier as opposed to bureaucratic burden. The staff being courteous and well educated/trained/professional/welcoming ties up this operation into a neat package. Definitely will come back despite being out of state - it is what makes things world class when it becomes more than a local range. Keep up building and the good work. read more
