    Blue trail (mountain top)
    Jacqueline T.

This was our first hike since we started quarantining. I was nervous to go out, but we love hiking and figured being outside was less risky than other things you might do. We weren't paying attention and got here at 7:30am to try to beat the crowds. The park doesn't open until 9, so we had an hour and a half to kill. Right at 9, several cars showed up. We hiked for 2 hours. We zig zagged across the trails. We did all of the red, yellow, and orange trails and most of the blue trail. It was probably a little over 4 miles. The trails are mostly just walking through the woods. The mountain overlook is the only real view (off of the blue trail). It's mostly moderate with some steeper sections to get to the mountain top. For the first hour we were hiking, we only saw one other person. During the second hour, we passed 10-15 groups which was more crowded than I wanted, but it wasn't terrible. It's only about an hour from Charlotte which is convenient. The views aren't great, but it's nice for a change of pace.

Moderate to hard(in a few places) trail. There are several different trip options, the shortest being 1.4 miles, and the longest over 3. It's a great hike through the trees to a fantastic lookout, although there are lots of tree roots and loose terrain that make rolling an ankle a bit of a haphazard, especially when climbing up a few of the steeper spots...almost a 30 degree angle I'm some places I would guess. Still a great hike and the view is spectacular on a clear day. I'd like to come back.in fall or winter and see what it's like with the changing seasons!

Wonderful park among the greenery of North Carolina. There are a few trails to choose from.. all of which have some sort of ascent.. with uneven terrain. There are plenty of markers throughout the trail to help Guide you. We ended up at the nice overlook which had a well deserved cool breeze up top.. along with beautiful views. There is a big parking lot, clean restrooms, and even free dog treats! Come bring your family, dog (and bring water for them too), and have a great time in nature.

Doesn't look like much when you first start walking but once you get up to the top of the mountain it will be worth every minute of it

While at the Bridge, I mentioned that I was also considering going over to Riverbend Park which was only about 20 additional minutes from where we were. A couple of the folks decided to join me. I've been here probably a half a dozen times but never checked in and left a review although I did post some photos. Our group leader was familiar with the Park because she had hiked the trails often but was not aware of the Dam for Lake Hickory which is just upstream. The other lady was aware of the Dam but did not realize that there was a Park just downstream. When you pull into the main parking lot, at the back side is a small road with a sign that says "Trailheads" to the right and Picnic Rest Rooms to the Left. Not obvious but if you take the Left Fork, you go down the hill to the River. At the bottom of the hill is another parking lot next to the Catawba River. When you first to into the lot, there is an observation deck that extends out into the edge of the Catawba River. Great view of Fall foliage from here. If you go back past the covered picnic shelter you end up at the Canoe Launch area. Another beautiful area. We missed it but they open up the dam on occasion for the Canoe's and Kayaker's to create whitewater. At that time. all the rocks you see in the photographs are submerged. A little past peak color but the maples with their shades of rea were still beautiful.

When I stopped…read moreby the playground was in full use and I had to wait for the kids to get bored of the awesome slide so that I could get a picture of it without them. On top of that, one of the baseball fields was being used for little league play and they were going all out. The park has two picnic shelters with tables and grills, a tennis court, basketball court, batting cages, restrooms, splashpad and two playgrounds. One of the playgrounds is named after Zahra Baker and I'd suggest you not go look up that name. The park is handicapped accessible including some of the rides. The four baseball fields are lighted. Parking was very limited today with lots of parents bringing their kids and hanging out. I managed to find a legal spot in front of a home on a cross street. Don't block driveways or fire hydrants! Here's a quick rundown for reference: - newish play structure -epically awesome large slide! -clean restrooms (located near the playground) -sandpit -plenty of shaded picnic areas -Baseball field and tennis court - generous amount of green, grassy area for childhood shenanigans - seasonal splash pad! There are plenty of shaded areas surrounding the park and plenty of parking spaces. This park is not local for us otherwise it would definitely be a part of our weekly park rotation. If you're nearby though and have some rambunctious kiddies, this is the place to take them.
