AMFA exhibits, represents and has inventory of the finest quality post war and contemporary art by the most important and historic artists. I have not (yet) visited the physical space in San Francisco; my direct experiences are limited to the most prestigious exhibition venues. Specifically, the last couple of years at Art Basel Miami Beach and the ADAA Art Show at the Park Ave. Armory in NYC. In addition to the Gallery presenting remarkable examples by the most recognizable mid 20th through 21st century artists, it is also a launch pad for important, rising mid-career artists. Anthony Meier and his staff are approachable, genuinely courteous and knowledgeable. Given the opportunity, and if one listens intently, the Gallerists unhesitatingly discuss and educate with passion. AMFA is all about the presence of the art and artists. Anthony Meier himself is of vast knowledge and experience. And, through a recent acquisition, I've become more personally acquainted with the staff, all of whom are exceptional professionals. My personal dealings were outstanding on every level, particularly communications. I look forward to future acquisitions through AMFA and a visit to the Gallery's west coast exhibition space. My highest of recommendations.

And that big metal gate is a little intimidating. But this hidden gem is more than worth it. The Gothic Revival architecture is a rare treat in San Francisco. The exhibitions are diverse and interesting. The curator does a nice job of integrating the art with the interiors. And the woman working in the gallery (Kristin) is friendly and knowledgeable, offering useful information when asked, but giving me my space to wander too.

I recently attended Marin Open Studios and ICB was open with so many artists letting the public into their studios, as well as selling art. The space is about 3 floors with artists space both large and big. The artists varied from abstract to photography to prints and more. Art is so subjective, of course. Some were more polished and "professional" than others, but regardless, it was an such an incredible way to spend the afternoon. The artists were on hand to share about their work. For this specific weekend, some artists had wine and other refreshments making it even more enjoyable! Overall, what a gem of a space. The gallery offers a gallery with rotating art shows plus members get to display their artwork on dedicated wall space. This gallery is large and austere as you can see from the video. The day I visited the gallery there was a juried show. I had a nice conversation with a volunteer who also has a studio downstairs. Each month the members draw to select their wall space for the following month or quarter. Membership to the Society requires one to sit the gallery and pay regular dues. This location is the best kept secret in Marin. Every time I dove by I made a mental note to stop by. It took me 2 yrs a very sunny day and balloons and flags out front that I finally stopped by. I hope you visit this gallery and enjoy the many talented works from local artisans. I understand the Society takes part in the San Rafael Friday Night Art Walk as well.

The exhibit we saw was modern Native American artists and the pieces were all really beautiful. Mostly paintings some poetry and written word, a few textiles, baskets and other three-dimensional pieces. Many of the pieces were also for sale. I loved the art and also reading some about the artists too. Free admission, parking is super easy if there isn't some other event going on. We stopped in on a hazy weekday afternoon.

Amazing museum which captures the essence and history of Tiburon in its early days. We had the…read moreopportunity of meeting and listening bits of construction and history for Mr. Phil Cossou, one of Tiburon's first railway police officers and lead builder of the enormous model display you will see upon walking in which took over a decade to build. Mr. Cossou was kind enough to share his memories, the construction of the model, walk through and share all the well preserved artifacts - one of the original maps, plans obtained directly from the Smithsonian. The upstairs once housed the chief operator and his family - all recreated with original pieces of furniture, dish ware, machinery, kitchen appliances. The view from each window was spectacular. We were told that the location was once very industrial, with trains and ferry's shipping goods to and from Tiburon to San Francisco. The docent and Mr. Cossou were wonderful and informative. If you have an opportunity to stop by, be sure to contribute at the front desk - worth every moment!

Tom's work captures the held breath of a moment--those quiet intervals of emotional intensity that seem to exist just beyond words. His paintings move fluidly between the electric pulse of Los Angeles, where anonymity hums through palm-lined streets and the mirrored sheen of rain-slick pavement, and pastoral landscapes where whispering fog drifts down rolling hills toward the Pacific. At the same time, Tom's playful imagination surfaces in his precocious pandas and his martini-drinking, cigar-smoking sumo surfers--works that reveal a welcome irreverence and humor. Yet it is Tom's Faces that I find most captivating--lush, seductive portraits that feel almost tactile... dare I say, juicy. While my…read moreexperience initially became frustrating surrounding the San Quentin tour, I am grateful for how the situation was ultimately addressed. When I signed up for the tour, my ticket was somehow cancelled. After further review, I learned that this was the result of a clerical error. Unfortunately, it created a difficult situation for me, especially because it took several days to determine what had happened. My only intention was to feel confident that I could participate in an opportunity I had signed up for based on the stated requirements. I was recently offered the opportunity to join the San Quentin tour after everything was reviewed, and I truly appreciate the effort that was made to make things right. A special thank-you to Jennifer and Heather for taking the time to help resolve the situation and for attempting to make a difficult experience better. I also want to sincerely apologize to Lori if my concerns caused any unnecessary commotion. That was never my intention. I simply cared deeply about being able to participate and wanted to understand why my registration had changed. Ultimately, I appreciate the Marin History Museum for hearing me out and working toward a positive resolution. I look forward to continuing to reach out, participate, and support the museum and the important work it does to preserve and share Marin County's history. Downtown San Rafael has a main street with shops and restaurants...like old times...fun...anytime really...it's not hard to visit some parts of outer Bay Area counties...this area has access with the transit center buses that go out of the bridge area...nice adventure...some people are ignorant of buses...sometimes buses are a better to way to transport...house museums are in all directions NWSE...etc...this one is different...it says that the daughter was a polar photographer, geographer, and went on expeditions...related to Canada etc...really wonderful time to visit the history house...quiet community...scholarly...athletic...
