There are several boarding room options, each with its own unique touch, and it's clear they've thought of everything to ensure your cat's comfort. I also love that it's home to beautiful parrots housed and boarded throughout the facility, which cats can safely observe from their own sanctuaries--such a fun and enriching touch. Each room has its own webcam that you can check anytime, which gave me great peace of mind. A lot of our friends don't live in San Diego so I had to look up pet boarding/cattery places for my sweet baby as my bf and I go out of state for a week's getaway. I was super anxious reading up horror stories of people living their cats in a boarding situation and so I did my due diligence when picking this place as a place to look after my baby. Booking was pretty straightforward, I just had to call and they sent me the documents to fill out and I gave them my credit card info to hold my reservation (they don't charge you until you pick up your baby). When I dropped off my kitty, I was able to see the room and they allowed me to keep the carrier in the room so he has my scent. It seemed like he didn't miss me at all because I would check in on the cameras occasionally and he was meowing and jumping around like crazy playing with the workers here. I really appreciated seeing them brush him and give him lots of pets. They also seem to feed him plentiful as he went from 7.5lbs to a whooping 8lbs when I came back (amazing!!). All in all, I'm glad I chose the purring parrot because my kitten seemed to really enjoy himself. I enjoyed the occasional "e-meows" they sent out and I loved reading his report card. This is place is my savior! I bring my overly loud, overly spoiled baby. My parrot stays with them when I need to be away. They take such good care of him. This is heaven to me because I also loooove birds! I'm so happy I found this place and that it exists! I took a tour before choosing a room and they have sooo many fun options! I ended up only booking for one night but it was my first night away from my 9 month kitten and he can't be left at home because he eats everything and anything. I tried a cat sitter before but this is much more affordable for the amount of attention and care he gets! The staff is truly wonderful and you can tell they really care. Look at this adorable report card! So sweet! 15min of play/attention are included and it's just $15 to add another 15min. They even scoop the litter box 3/4 times a day. I brought my own food, food bowls, toys, and litterbox but they also provide all of that. They provide filtered water and water fountains as well! They thoroughly vacuum, mop, disinfect the rooms/toys between cats and I could tell it was clean. The first thing they do is check for fleas too and that's great. Love the 24/7 webcam and if he stayed a 2nd night I would've gotten a daily email report card. They even accommodated feeding him smaller meals 4 times a day and mixed in his probiotics and water like I asked. I provided lickable treats that they used during playtime to bond. We had the best experience with boarding our sweet cat here. It was our first time boarding him and we were very unsure of how he would do. I loved that I could check in on him at any time. I just moved here and was looking to find somewhere to board my beloved, grumpy, diabetic Sphynx compared to the place we used to go. The staff and amenities at Purring Parrot is unlike any other place I've looked at or been to! She was well taken care of with notes written on her behavior/food/etc for every single day. Smooth check in and check out, affordable (NOT cheap), and kind and caring staff. I loved being able to see her on the webcam 24/7. The staff have cameras in their own homes to watch the kitties and birds and the location in inconspicuous which made me feel better about having my $1400 baby there for a week. They also send "E-Meows" to my email giving updates from my kitty As an anxious mom with a cat who has a very difficult medical condition (unstable diabetes). I feel so safe leaving my baby here. Initial email and voicemail messages not returned so I called and spoke to Natalie who was polite and confirmed availability. When I gave My Name, there was a long 'Hold' and then Natalie apologized and said she was mistaken...No availability. Natalie sounded nervous so, intuitively, I inquired about the same time period - this time, TWO months in advance...and again a long 'Hold' and the same "We are booked that weekend" response by Natalie even though I had requested a week not a weekend. So I pushed a little and asked about THREE months in advance and suddenly... Maria the Owner took my call and began by asking "Is This Bill?" Maria quickly explained that more than 15 years ago my wife no-showed on a reservation for our parrot. As I vaguely recall, Maria was just starting out in the business and made a last-minute request of us for updated vaccine / medical history for our parrot which we could not comply with on such short-notice so we cancelled. More likely, Maria cancelled the appointment not us. Long story short, MARIA has held a personal grudge all these years later for something that was absolutely out of our control. Maria's tone was ARROGANT and CONDESCENDING but she did offer a referral...to another pet-sitter, which made no sense?!? This place is fantastic! It was our first time we had to board our kitty, who is a very sheltered inside cat. The staff gave him a lot of attention and comforted him. They have so many little things to reduce any stress and keep you informed. 24/7 webcam you can view, email updates, and they keep a daily journal during your cats' stay. The price was great too! 5 nights in his own suite, plus his insulin injections, plus tons of time, attention, and TLC for under 200 hundred dollars is amazing. Boarded my cat for 12 nights here. He has some chronic conditions and needed eye drops twice a day and he has asthma sometimes too. He came home a bit skinnier (he doesn't eat well when he is stressed) but his eyes looked terrific and I didn't notice his asthma acting up. So, I believe they took really good care of him. He is a very shy and easily frightened cat. They sent an email about every 3-4 days with updates and they send home a report card (see photo). I am very pleased with how it went. I brought my cat in because I was moving out of my old place, and crashed with a friend who had dogs. I like that they have a camera you can use to check on your cat! I tried checking on her but she was hiding down below. I think it is super cute that they also pet sit birds so the cats have some entertainment lol. I also like that they check for fleas before you leave. That really ensures that your pet will not come home with fleas. The girl that was working there was really nice! Boarding my 13.5 year old diabetic, extremely anxious cat was NOT an easy decision to make. Unfortunately, I was out of home care options for this particular business trip (strangers coming into the home is not an option as she gets very nervous around people she doesn't know). The Vet Techs and FHAH recommended The Purring Parrot and I'm SO GLAD I listened. She had a private little suite. Her caregivers took stock of what she was eating so they could properly administer her insulin. I received email updates on how she was doing as well as a detailed report when I picked her up. The staff was kind, not just to my cat, but to me. They saw that I was nervous as this was the first time she had EVER been in a boarding facility. This is the ONLY place I will ever board my cat. I am so grateful to have found this place for my cat Gretta. To be fully transparent...I'm kindddaaa a helicopter cat mom (I'm working on it) so when I needed to start boarding my cat after my parents moved to Ireland, I was really picky! A big thing for me was making sure the rooms were homey and there were no cages! This place has the CUTEST homiest comfiest rooms for cats that are thoughtfully done up with different themes. I'd honestly stay here myself lol! My girl has medicine she needs to take and really loves attention and affection and the staff are very attentive to all different needs. They have rooms in "social" areas where there's more foot traffic and then quieter areas for the more introverted cats. But allll rooms are very cozy and cute and have lots of toys and climbing posts. I was so nervous about boarding my cat because I know they love to be at home, but for my cat who needs medicine and lots of attention, boarding was the way to go. I eased into it the first couple times starting with one night, then 2, etc. now Gretta loves her stays at the purring parrot and I have peace of mind every trip I go on. They are wonderful!! They fit me in for my last min notice. Cux I was planning to bring my cat on a out of town work trip. Finding that all hotels in the US don't accept cats or if they do, they have to be attended by you. As I said it was work related can't have them with me, so I ended contacting them. They were super accommodating and they have many staff there to cater to my kitties needs. I am reading the journal they left with my cat carrier. I am reading the journal so I can see what went on the days. That's a nice touch. The only bad things from this was the web camera.... I can't never get to see my kitties or They stuck on the corner... The staff did say it's slow. But overall my cats enjoyed their time at the place and look relaxed. It's good for me! We have trusted Purring Parrot with taking care of our cats for several years now. It all started when we needed to board our cats while we left for a long trip. Taking our cats to the vet where they see, hear, and smell dogs already seemed tough for the cats, so we did not want to leave them there for an extended amount of time. We searched for cat boarding places in San Diego and came across Purring Parrot. They were exactly the type of place we were looking for! Purring Parrot used to be in a building near Liberty Station. But, has since moved to this new, bigger, better location off Mission Gorge. More parking. No stairs to climb. More suites available. Everything about it is better! Just some general information about this place - you can call or e-mail Purring Parrot to make reservations for your cats. They also board birds, as well! If you are curious, you can go in during certain business hours to tour the facility. Your cat will be assigned a particular room - they each have a different name and theme. Each room is practically a little playground for the cats with plenty of ledges/stairs/ramps to walk/climb/jump/relax and have the basic necessities (food, water, litter, toys). If your cat has special dietary/medical needs, the staff will take care of that, as well. You just need to provide the appropriate products and instructions. Each room has webcams so you can check on your cat 24/7. The staff is incredible! Friendly, loving, caring, just to name a few. They do a fantastic job at keeping on top of everything. They treat each pet as if they were their own. Keep everything clean. Ensure they feed, water, medicate each one on time. They even spend one-on-one time every day to give each of them extra special attention to pet, brush, cuddle, play, etc. They help the cats write emails to their parents to provide updates every so often. They even let the parents know of anything unusual/alarming things that they notice. The staff keeps a log of each pet for every day and is provided to the parents at the end of the stay. Their job seems like so much fun, but it definitely involves lots of hard work. We would trust our cats (and birds if we had any) to board with Purring Parrot any time and you should, too! If your cat is shy, it may take some time for them to get used to it. But, they will come to love this place and the staff. It will become their favorite vacation spot! read more

This is absolutely the best pet resort/home away from home for your cats in all of San Diego! Very well laid out so that your cat will have a view of their human caretakers and some of the birds that are being boarded (in their own cages) but not of other cats. Our two cats (Jack Jack & Kiki) stayed here for their first time staying away from home and we were all concerned about how they would adjust. The attentive staff, clean, well-designed rooms with fun themes, and overall well-organized processes to monitor and document how the cats are doing ensured that they did great! As an added bonus the kids loved checking in on the cats via the in-room webcams. Great staff, great facility. When you have a macaw that talks as much as mine does, it is easy to think he's saying something he is not. I gave this place a try in preparation for an upcoming trip, and received a call a WHOLE DAY AFTER THE STAY ... claiming that my green wing macaw said the "n" word for over an hour! Actually, the word he was saying was SUGAR, the name of one of my Westies and one of the first words he learned to say. I received NO call during the stay, and not a word from the employee that assisted me when I picked him up. In fact, she gushed on and on about how funny he is, and we talked at length about all the things Cuica says: "Want some chocolate?" ... "Want some water?" ... "Hi beautiful!" ... "Hi gorgeous!" ... And then I got this phone call, telling me that my bird supposedly repeated a racial slur for over an hour. My heart is still in my feet. I do not ever and would not ever say that word - ever. Nor do I watch any kind of television programming that would ever use the word. The way they handled this is completely unprofessional and sadly, even if I agreed to return with my clean-mouthed bird, the damage to his (and my) reputation has been done. I am angry, sickened, and heart broken because it could have been handled so much better than it was. read more

We are so thankful for the Purring Parrot and the wonderful staff and owner Maria for taking such great care of our kittens Franklin and Charlie! It's easy to tell that the Purring Parrot is designed and run by those who truly love and know how to take care of cats. At other boarding places with shared communal space, our cats never felt comfortable, so having the private rooms that are spacious, comfortable, well designed with lots of perches and fun themes were perfect for our cats. We also loved being able to check on them at any time using the online webcam. We could see by the second day they were already comfortable and enjoying the care and playtime from the attentive staff. It's also a cute and fun touch receiving E-meows from your cats every few days with updates like a kitty summer camp. We even learned about some new toys that they like to play with. On their last extended stay, we miscalculated how much dry food to leave for them and they ran out a few days early, but the owner was so kind to go to the store and get them the brand of dry food they use. We can't thank her enough for going above and beyond! We're so happy to have such a wonderful caring place for our cats to stay when we're out of town, because every cat owner knows how hard it is to leave them! read more

The ladies at The Purring Parrot have cared for Miss [name] Kittyface three times, and she always comes home healthy and happy. I have looked in on the webcam numerous times, but only a very few where at a time when there was someone in the room with her. It is worth noting, however, that on one of those times when the camera first came on, I observed the "caregiver" simply standing in the room with her face buried in her cell phone. Texting, browsing, IM, DM, whatever it was, it had her full attention, while my kitty just sat there staring at her, probably wondering, like me, what she was doing in there! I timed it and waited a full 4 minutes (how long before?) and then moved the camera... as soon as I did that, she immediately looked up at the camera (!), and picked up a feather-stick and started to pretend to play with Miss Kittyface. I had to leave, so I moved the camera a few more times just to emphasize, and I don't know what happened during any of her other "play times". I did not report this to them because when I picked her up I was greeted by the very same lady as in the webcam... This may well be an isolated incident. Like I said in the beginning, I believe it is a good, caring place for my kitty to stay, and within acceptable limits. We are both home and happy now. :) UPDATE: The reply from PP is absurd for 2 reasons: 1. Does it matter who I am? I saw it, it happened! The only thing you should need to "fix a problem" is to know that there is a problem and then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! 2. They do not even address the issue at hand at all!! The best place ever ! We could watch our cat Jake on the cat cam. It was so much fun. The staff friendly and the place clean. Each cat had plenty of places to sleep and the rooms were decorated with fun themes. A must if you want to make sure your cat is safe and loved. I really didn't want to write this ; I liked the company & their employees until till one day without warning for no reason they turned on me viciously. 6 years. SIX YEARS I've been giving this business my money. 10s of thousands of dollars later And out of the blue , out of no where without warning she banned our dear Leo for the Purring Parrot for doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING . Maria the owner had to lay her fooT down It wasn't the cats fault, no no apparently it was MY FAULT for not adhering to their ever changing rules. In acutality the owner is a racist. If you are a person of color (not a cat color) she will treat you poorly and not value your business. She has attitude and she gets upset if you ask simple questions. She dismissed us as needed and told us to get an home sitter but we can't have one bc we work from home and have too much fragile inventory in our house. She never helped or gave us a back up plan. Instead she cancelled all of our reservations without warning for thanksgiving and Christmas that I had made over a year in advance all because we picked up Leo 15 Min late . She said we had to get our pet at 8:30 am and we were there at 8;45 am sharp and "she didn't have enough to clean the room for the next guest" we payed our dues always without question , our cat was cute and adorned in their updates and letters yet we didn't meet her standard as pet owners. Apparently we were too late and we were difficult bc we asked to drop off early or pick up late by 15 min once in a while , simultaneously adhering to their ever changing rules about pick up times. We were the ideal regular customer , who booked our pet 4-5 time a year and never complained if we canceled paying the full amount bc we understood the rules. But this wasn't enough. If you want a company who doesn't value your business , if you want a company who drops you as a great client without warning and cancels important reservations, if you want a company who acts friendly and comfortable then turns on you for absolutely no reason then use this place with incompetent people. Overall this experience was the worst I've ever had , building a relationship only to be shattered by a racist, rude owner that will drop you as a valued customer at any hint of dislike on her part. She judges you and without any warning or sign she will "ban" you and your pet eventually. Don't support this lady and her business. This is honestly more of a vacation for your cat then a boarding place! The rooms are set up to be a cat heaven with lots of climbing spots and things for your cat to do. It looks super comfy in spots. The staff really cares for the cats. I adopted mine a couple months ago and honestly had trouble finding toys he liked. I asked if about what he liked best and was given some wonderful recommendations. Check out the toys when you pick your cat up if he has favorites. They are very reasonably priced and cute. The cookies are amazing as well. My cat is super happy and not at all stressed. He was a lil upset when I left him but before long he was out and about. The webcams are pretty cool. When I got laid over repeatedly in the airport it was cool to pull it up and see him having a good time. I don't have a bird, but the ones there look happy and healthy. I'm sure the cats love watching them. The diary and updates are detailed and super cute. Your pet is played with here and given lots of attention. I have used Purring Parrot over 4 times to board my anxious Goffins Cockatoo. Sunny is 30 years old, a plucker (not unusual for Goffins) and very spoiled. The staff at PP allow those spoiled activities to continue while she is there. The cages are very clean, the other birds are healthy, they require yearly blood work to assure no transmutable diseases. The extra food they give, snacks, etc. are healthy for birds and the staff take special time with each bird. Their prices of $20 a night is fair considering the extra things I ask them to do...Staff is friendly, knowledgeable on caring for Parrots. Covid clean for sure.
