Fish from the side with ammonia poisoning stripe, clamped fins, and burns.

I will start off by saying the store itself is well stocked. Lots of fish, plants, equipment, etc. If you have an aquarium, they probably have stuff for you to find. This is in particular about the care of their bettas, which is to say gently - not great. I went in to purchase plants for a 2 of my fish tanks, neither of which had fish. All was normal-ish until I saw a little, tiny baby betta fish in what was basically a half-filled jam jar with some plants. I thought it was dead at first, and was really concerned about it. The rest of their betta selection was in cups with plants, which made me a little upset. Some of their bettas were in plant tanks, but this guy was in a jar without a filter or a heater in the front of a cold store. It did have some plant snipping, but that's just less than the bare minimum of the care needs. Went home with my plants, but couldn't shake the feeling that something was just really wrong with that betta fish and that I needed to go give it a better home. Went back same day, and asked the person at the front what they knew about the fish - they couldn't give me any answers besides "it's a baby and we got it from a breeder". I kept on asking the employee if the fish was ok, if it had any problems, etc. They said, "no". I didn't really believe it given the state the fish was in, but proceeded to purchase it anyways. I am incredibly glad I did. Not because it perked up immediately, but because the entire front of the face of the fish was covered in ammonia burns, and the fish had an awful case of ammonia poisoning, complete with red stripes and inflamed gills. I am so upset that a company that sells fish not only put a fish in that condition, but didn't recognize the fact that scales were falling off the face of a baby betta fish. That's just negligence of livestock IMO. To be fair, it looked to be the most neglected fish in the store and I bought it because I thought it was going to die soon. And if I left it there, I would have probably been right. Not to say that they don't do a good job with other livestock, but it's a giant red flag - especially if you know anything about baby bettas and know they require more care and are more sensitive to changing water parameters than a regular betta fish. The betta is now named Kuma, and am trying to heal him up nicely in a planted 14 gallon tank. But I really won't ever forget the feeling when I realized literally the entire face of the fish was burned, scaleless, with red stripes running down the sides, fin rot, and clamped fins. It's gotten better over the past couple of days after I brought him home, but still. And the employees didn't recognize it - which is the most upsetting part to me. I just can't support a fish store that treats any kind of fish like that, I'm sorry.

My electric blue.

First time I called was Feb 6th. I ask if he has a 6" goldfish and he said he would check with his buddy that holds fish for him and that he would call me back later that night. I didn't get called back for 2 days. When he did call back, it was only to check what size I wanted again and to be told that he should have it and that he would bring it to me in a couple of days. He never called. He never showed. I tried to call him and he never picked up. I left messages. I finally left one saying that since I have tried multiple times that it would be my last time trying and I never got a call back. Today I thought I would give it one more shot. I tried to set an appointment to meet him at his shop today and he refused. He wanted me to call him back later this afternoon to see what he was doing and to meet up (maybe). I said that I really wanted to set an appointment with him right then and there since I have been trying to buy from him for over a month and still haven't been able to since he keeps not calling me back. At first he apologized, but then he said, well I have been taking care of my sick aunt too. I said, not for over a month. He then said he wouldn't be doing business with me since I sounded sarcastic and that I could take his spot with his aunt instead before hanging up on me. First off, you don't make your personal problems your business failure excuses, especially to customers you have repeatedly failed. Second, you make a damn appointment when your website says by appointment only. Third, you keep your word once you make a commitment. If you are still wondering if you want to do business with this man, the answer is no! Run away! Pick a person who keeps their appointments and word. Pick someone who runs an actual business with real store hours and real appointment times. Even Comcast keeps their word about appointments better than this dude!

Prior to the adventure, the owner, Bobby, met with me and my dog in person. He took the time to learn about my dog's personality and behaviors, and answered all of my questions. After meeting him I felt very comfortable letting him take my fur baby out and had confidence that it would go well. (I don't easily trust anyone with my dog, so this is saying a lot) Bobby was professional, kind, super knowledgeable about dogs and supportive. He took some great photos of Leia having a blast on her adventure which I loved. I would highly recommend this local business to anyone who wants their dog to go on adventures with a company who cares about and has experience working with our canine companions!
