My bf & I stopped in to inquire some information about bettas as "Micky" wasn't doing so good. He had him for a year & a half before he started to act unusual, i.e. floating only at the bottom.
The owner of Aquatic Maintenance spoke to us at length all the while "Walter" the parrot kept him company on his shoulder . He stated that bettas don't breathe through gills but rather swim up for air so the aerator we had in the tank wasn't necessary. It was more "annoying" for them than helpful. He also explained they love bed leaf hammocks & it should be suctioned at the top of the tank, just below the water line, so they can easily stick their head up for air. The leaf hammock was maybe $3; cheaper than Pet Smart.
After retrieving this information we did as we were instructed & Mickey looked as though he was feeling better a day or so later. Once one notices their fish looking or acting unusual it's almost too late to save them. Sadly, Mickey had an untimely demise. RIP Mickey.
The building itself is quite small but it holds a great deal of materials & supplies for all things fish related. With that it isn't very organized but as long as the owner knows where it is then that's all that matters for me. This is where we'll return should we decide to purchase a fish again. read more
